The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 140 The Despicable Mistress
Jessica said, "Alright, go replace Bryan!"
Emily replied, "But I don't even know him! And why would he have a dress for women?"
Jessica, knowing Bryan well, didn't hesitate. "There's nothing Bryan can't do! Just drop my name, and he'll help you out!"
Emily's social anxiety kicked in, and she wished she could vanish. But with Jessica being a public figure and her dress a mess, there was no way she could leave the bathroom. She had to step up.
After some hesitation, Emily finally made a move. She wandered around the Watson Mansion, asking a few servants, "Is Mr. Watson around?"
Some said yes, some said no, and others pointed to places like the living room, bedroom, and bathroom.
This left Emily totally confused, so she thought of calling Michael for help.
Just as she pulled out her phone, a deep male voice spoke behind her. "Are you looking for me?"
As Jessica had described, Bryan had a cold yet refined look, handsome and gentle. In a simple light gray suit, he seemed low-key, unlike Michael's playful and domineering vibe. Bryan was the epitome of a gentle and reserved second male lead in a novel.
But Bryan only looked the part; his words and actions were more like an NPC.
He barely spoke.
Emily explained the situation, and as they walked to the wardrobe, he only said three things.
"Okay." "Here."
"Will this one do?"
He was seriously a man of few words!
Emily didn't explain who she was, worried it might stir up trouble.
She couldn't help but wonder if Bryan thought she was one of Jessica's staff. Maybe keeping quiet was the best move.
But why did a guy have women's clothes in his wardrobe? Even with the tags still on, it was pretty odd!
Thinking this, Emily hurried back to the bathroom.
Jessica had just cleaned up and, seeing Emily, rushed over and kissed her on the cheek, leaving Emily completely stunned.
At that moment, Emily's phone rang. The caller ID showed "Honey."
For years, Emily hadn't changed Michael's contact name. He rarely called, so she forgot about it.
Seeing the caller ID, Emily felt a mix of emotions, mostly panic.
Emily answered, "Hello?"
Michael asked, "Where are you?"
Emily replied, "In the bathroom, with Jessica."
Michael said, "I'm waiting for you outside."
Emily replied, "Okay."
Michael's tone didn't sound good. Had he already run into Bryan? Emily suddenly remembered what Jessica had said earlier. "Michael and Bryan have a bit of a grudge, but it's no big deal. They just don't want to admit they're wrong! Dominant CEO, cold rich second generation, they're all the same!"
"It's fine. We've known each other for so many years; the understanding and feelings are still there. If you ask Michael now, he'd still consider Bryan his best friend, and Bryan would feel the same!"
Was it really as simple as Jessica said? As soon as Emily left the bathroom, she got her answer.
Michael and Bryan were standing together, but there was an unwelcome guest-the person Emily least wanted to see.
"Who is that woman?" Jessica had changed into a short gold dress, standing next to Emily's long purple mermaid dress, making them both stand out.
Michael and Bryan exchanged a glance and started walking over, but they were followed by the persistent Sophia.
"She's Michael's current girlfriend," Emily said bitterly, seeing Michael let Sophia tag along.
Jessica was shocked. 'Wait, what? Let me sort this out. Doesn't Michael have a wife? Where did this girlfriend come from? Could the rumors online be true?'
As the group approached, Jessica was the first to confront Michael. "Michael, what's going on? Emily is still here. Shouldn't you tell her to leave?"
Everyone turned to look at Emily. She was already fuming, staring daggers at Sophia. She hadn't forgotten the slap from Evelyn. How could she let Sophia act like nothing happened?
Sophia said, "What is this lady talking about? Emily is my sister, which makes Michael my relative. Besides, I'm here on my father's behalf to attend Mrs. Watson's birthday party. There are so many connections involved; how can you just tell me to leave?"
This was the Watson family's territory, and Michael, indeed, had no right to kick Sophia out.
Moreover, the business circle in Emerald City was complex. Even though Smith Corporation was powerful, there were countless intricacies. For someone as annoying as Sophia, Michael had no reason to offend others. Especially now, with Smith Corporation under scrutiny, it was best to keep a low profile.
Sophia's boast inadvertently helped Emily clear her doubts. She glanced at Michael, who was looking at her with concern. It seemed their thoughts were aligned. Alright, at least Michael knew what was important.
Emily's anger subsided significantly, but Jessica was not so calm. She retorted with her neck stiffened, "If you're really here for Mrs. Watson's birthday, then get lost and stop sticking with us. Did we say we wanted you to join us?" Jessica's fiery temper didn't care about rules. She only knew that Sophia was a homewrecker. In an instant, Jessica could say the most hurtful things.
And Sophia, knowing Jessica's background, didn't respond, shamelessly sticking to Michael.
