The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 143 The Graceful and Noble Lady
The banquet hall was buzzing with people mingling, toasting, and chatting, making the whole scene pretty dazzling.
Emily was thinking about sneaking out for some fresh air. But just as she was about to turn around, she heard Bryan suddenly speak up next to her. "When did you and Michael tie the knot?"
Bryan had been glued to his phone, playing a game, and she had no idea when he stopped and noticed her. Emily was caught off guard and awkwardly sat back down, forcing a smile. "Uh, we've been married for three years." Bryan nodded, looking like he wanted to keep the conversation going. "I left Emerald City three years ago, so no wonder I've never seen you. I didn't come back when Michael was sick either. I was busy with work and, you know, young and clueless."
As he spoke, Emily noticed a hint of regret on Bryan's face. It seemed like Jessica was right; these two still thought about each other, but now they were like strangers who couldn't even have a proper chat.
It was just that they didn't do business together anymore, so what was the big deal?
Emily thought to herself but she still had to be polite, so she comforted Bryan. "Michael understands. You both are busy. Meeting again when you've achieved success is the best outcome."
Emily's words always had a way of making people feel at ease.
Bryan, who rarely smiled, responded to Emily. "Michael is older than me, so you're my sister-in-law. Is it okay if I call you Emily?"
Using her first name seemed fitting. At least it showed Bryan didn't want to be strangers with Michael.
Emily nodded repeatedly and replied, "Of course, you're Michael's best friend."
As soon as she finished speaking, Emily didn't expect Bryan to ask her again, "Did Michael ever mention me?"
Now it was Emily's turn to be dumbfounded. Should she say he did or didn't?
Meanwhile, Michael's gaze kept drifting over.
Who would've thought Bryan, usually so quiet, would be chatting so warmly with his wife today? And Emily, always drawing attention wherever she went, really stood out. For a moment, the banquet hall was filled with Michael's jealous emotions.
On the other side, Mabel had also appeared.
She was accompanied by someone, a woman in her forties, dressed elegantly, with well-groomed, voluminous hair that looked both lush and dignified.
It was clear she was someone who frequented high society and dealt with people often, not just a simple housewife in a wealthy family.
Emily thought to herself as she observed.
The next second, Bryan stood up. He buttoned his suit properly, nodded politely to her, and walked towards Mabel and the woman.
Emily noticed the familiarity between Bryan and the woman, indicating they were pretty close. But what really caught Emily's eye was the necklace around the woman's neck.
Being in the design field, Emily had a keen eye for such details. The necklace was made of sparkling diamonds and smooth platinum, with the diamonds shining like stars in the night sky.
The craftsmanship was top-notch. Even from a distance, Emily could see the intricate white gold flowers and pink gemstones embedded among the diamonds. It was clear the craftsmen had put a lot of thought into making this necklace, placing everything perfectly, making it look like a galaxy filled with bright stars.
"What are you staring at?" Just as Emily was admiring the necklace, Michael suddenly appeared behind her. With a stiff expression, he asked her, looking more like a debt collector.
Emily, of course, wasn't going to be polite to him either, responding unhappily, "None of your business."
Following Emily's gaze, Michael immediately noticed Bryan's cold face.
Michael said, "Emily, what do you mean? Yesterday you said you were here to help me resolve past misunderstandings, but look at what you're doing today. First, you disappear with Jessica, then you chat warmly with Bryan in front of everyone."
"What are you trying to do? Are you trying to completely infiltrate my social circle and drive me crazy? Your plan is too good!"
Hearing Michael's words, she was instantly furious, frowning as she replied, "Michael! How could you say that? I want to know what you're here for. To resolve misunderstandings with Bryan, or to team up with Sophia to upset me? If Mabel knew you were using her birthday party for such shady business, she'd be very angry, wouldn't she?"
"Emily, stop talking nonsense!" Michael felt completely misunderstood. "I didn't know Sophia would be here today, and didn't you see how I talked to her? In front of my friends, I considered your feelings and handled things from your perspective, Emily, so please don't push it too far!"
Emily was instantly furious, ready to argue with Michael.
Just then, Bryan's group looked over. And the elegant woman waved at them.
Seeing this, Emily froze. Michael sighed helplessly, then smiled and pulled the woman beside him over.
But this pull led to a bigger misunderstanding. Somehow, Sophia had positioned herself behind Michael, and without realizing it, Michael thought he was holding Emily's delicate hand.
So, in front of everyone, the previously cold Michael was holding Sophia's hand, smiling as he walked over to Mabel and the woman beside her, introducing them. "Mrs. Watson, this is my wife. You must be meeting her for the first time."
