The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 184 Mixing in the Entertainment Industry
Jessica was down to help, so Emily felt a bit more at ease. She was about to head out when she spotted Jessica's agent, Layla, hopping onto the RV.
Layla's face lit up like she'd struck gold when she saw Emily. She rushed over, grabbed Emily's hand, and started gushing, "Miss Brown, what brings you here? Have you decided yet? Are you here to sign with me? You're always welcome here, just drop by anytime!"
Layla even had Emily's whole persona in the entertainment industry all mapped out.
"Layla, I..." Emily stammered, feeling a bit overwhelmed by Layla's enthusiasm. Luckily, Jessica jumped in to save her.
"Layla, Emily's just here to hang out with me and she brought coffee for everyone!" Jessica said.
"Coffee?" Layla's eyes lit up.
For anyone working long hours, coffee was a godsend, especially for Layla, who'd been up all night with Jessica on a shoot. She nodded eagerly and praised Emily for being so thoughtful. "It's okay if you haven't decided yet. One day, you will. Miss Brown, I'll be waiting for your call! I believe we're destined to work together!"
With that, Layla took the coffee and strutted off the RV.
'No wonder she is Jessica's agent,' Emily thought. The kind of employees you had really did reflect the kind of boss you were. No wonder they worked so well together.
After saying goodbye to Jessica, Emily got ready to head home. She didn't want to draw too much attention, so she turned down Michael's offer and didn't use the Smith family's driver.
Because of this, she only had to wait a short time for a ride-share car by the roadside. That was when she ran into an unexpected guest, Sophia.
Unlike Emily, Sophia had her parents' support and the Brown family's money, so driving a pink Maybach was no big deal for her.
Sophia spotted Emily waiting for a car from a distance while she was at a traffic light. Jealousy flared up inside her. If she didn't go over to mock Emily, she'd probably feel miserable.
A loud, obnoxious car horn snapped Emily out of her thoughts. She jumped, instinctively protecting her belly, worried about the baby inside.
Sophia saw this but was too busy mocking Emily to care. "Well, well, look who it is! Mrs. Smith!"
Sophia was fed up with all the online praise for the Smith Corporation couple's loving relationship. Running into Emily just added fuel to her fire.
She parked her car in front of Emily, rolled down the window, and looked at her smugly.
"Sophia, what are you doing here?" Emily asked.
This area was packed with film sets, and Emily didn't expect to run into this troublemaker everywhere she went.
Sophia sneered, "I should be asking you! I'm the daughter of the Brown family, with endless resources and connections to all the big names! But you, living off the Smith family, what are you doing here... Bored at home and looking to make some extra cash? Emily, you're hilarious!" Sophia's wild guesses seemed to entertain her.
Emily didn't feel like explaining herself to Sophia. But since her ride was on its way, she couldn't just walk off. She decided to give Sophia a brief response, just to get some peace.
"Sophia, say whatever you want. Sometimes I really pity you, amusing yourself with these wild guesses. Is it really fun to deceive yourself? Maybe only you know."
The atmosphere got tense real quick. Sophia's smile froze. She never expected Emily to clap back like that. Sophia felt a sharp pain in her chest, like her heart was being twisted.
She unbuckled her seatbelt, got out of the car, and glared at Emily like she was her worst enemy. "You, a woman who's going to be abandoned sooner or later, what right do you have to judge me! Dad doesn't want you, and Michael is using you; what makes you think you're better than me? Who do you think is more likely to win between you and me?"
Sophia's hatred for Emily was almost palpable. She looked like she wanted to tear her apart.
But before Emily could respond, a voice called out from a distance, calling her name. Emily turned and saw Jessica's assistant running towards her, holding a folder and a box of food.
The assistant smiled and handed them to Emily. "Miss Brown, it's so lucky you haven't left yet! Jessica realized she left the cookies she made for you on the table after you left. She wanted you to try them! Oh, and Layla, she already printed out the contract for your collaboration. She said she's waiting for your response, and it's okay if you refuse. She wanted me to tell you she really likes you!"
The assistant said everything in one breath, almost out of breath from excitement.
Seeing this, Emily's earlier discomfort vanished. She chuckled, took the items, said a few polite words, and watched the assistant leave. When she turned back, she saw Sophia's face had become much more unpleasant.
"I heard the lead actress of this show is from overseas. Could it be... Jessica? And the famous agent... is that Layla? She wants to sign you?" Sophia looked at Emily in disbelief.
Sophia had come to visit the third female lead of the show. For a wealthy socialite from Emerald City who had spent a lot of money to break into the entertainment industry, getting a supporting role was already impressive. But higher roles weren't just about money and connections; one needed talent and acting skills too. She never expected Emily to be visiting the lead actress and getting along with her agent!
Seeing Sophia's expression, Emily didn't bother to say more. Her ride had arrived, so she left a mocking smile and got into the car.
