The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 193 Confession Again
Michael wasn't the type to get scared easily, and neither were his subordinates.
Especially in light of the recent attempt by shareholders to oust the CEO, Andrew had heard all kinds of rumors, fought countless business battles with Michael, and seen plenty of shareholder threats.
So, when it came to Sophia's petty threats, he couldn't care less. Just thinking about Michael's calm demeanor, Andrew got the whole picture.
Michael's attitude said it all, and Andrew was on the same page. "You keep saying the baby you're carrying is Mr. Smith's. Yeah, I got it, you've mentioned it a million times. But Ms. Brown, you need to understand, this is Emerald City. The baby's identity isn't up to you or the doctor, it's up to the Smith family."
After saying that, Andrew gave Sophia a long look, and then walked out of the office without a second glance.
Outside, he gave the secretary some instructions, loud enough for Sophia to hear.
Andrew said, "Don't leave until Ms. Brown does."
The secretary asked, "So if she stays, I can't leave?" Andrew replied, "Pretty much."
The secretary said, "Mr. Anderson, that's so unfair!"
Andrew said, "If it's too much, you can take it up with Mr. Smith. Maybe he'll make it up to you in your next bonus."
The secretary grinned, "That'd be awesome, thanks, Mr. Anderson. I'll just hang out with her then, getting paid for nothing!"
Andrew went quiet after that. But Sophia was fuming.
Damn it, she came all this way to make a scene in front of Michael, and she got brushed off!
And what Andrew said... Sophia had to admit, he had a point. Otherwise, she wouldn't be at a loss for words.
In Emerald City, the Smith Corporation had most of the power. Besides the police, Mason had his own connections in the prosecutor's office. And her? With a fake belly, how could she stir up trouble?
Just as Sophia was feeling stuck, there was a knock on the office door.
The secretary assistant who had just talked to Andrew peeked in and timidly asked Sophia, "Miss Brown, want something to drink?"
Sophia glanced at the water on the table, clenched her teeth, and walked out of the office.
Meanwhile, at a restaurant, Daniel asked, "What do you want to drink?"
Emily replied, "Anything."
Daniel insisted, "There are tons of options on the menu, you gotta pick one."
Emily said, "Then... this one."
Daniel said, "Emily, didn't the waiter just say that one's not available?"
Emily was always distracted. Even though Daniel had brought her to her favorite restaurant, she still seemed uninterested and down. "Then just bring anything."
In the end, it was still "anything," and Daniel had to reluctantly order.
After the waiter left, Daniel saw Emily give him an apologetic smile, and he asked, "What's going on? I'm really worried about you."
Seeing the worry on Daniel's face, Emily felt a heavy weight on her shoulders. Knowing that Daniel had been helping take care of her mom, she felt even more embarrassed. She forced a bitter smile and simply said, "Sophia's pregnant."
Just saying it felt like a thousand tiny needles piercing her heart. Who could handle their husband having a baby with another woman? And that woman being her half-sister? Emily said bitterly, "Isn't it just hilarious?"
Daniel replied, "Not really, it's just shocking and infuriating. Michael's a real jerk."
Daniel's words hit home for Emily.
But she didn't tell Daniel that despite everything, she still loved Michael deeply.
Daniel asked, "Emily, what are you gonna do next?"
Daniel's question caught Emily off guard. She hadn't even thought about what to do next. Emily replied, "I don't know."
Seeing Emily so lost and helpless, Daniel wished he could replace Michael and tear him apart. Emily was such a good person, how could anyone be so ungrateful and not cherish her?
Thinking about this made Daniel even angrier, especially seeing Emily so heartbroken, like a flower that had been trampled on. It made him feel even more heartbroken and hesitant. "Emily," Daniel said, his voice serious.
Emily's chaotic thoughts were interrupted, and she didn't know when she had zoned out again. She sighed softly, raised her eyes, her eyelashes trembling, and asked, "What is it?"
His heart skipped a beat, but Daniel mustered the courage to look at her, his eyes deepening, a gentle smile on his lips, and an indescribable atmosphere spreading between them.
Daniel replied, "I... I know you've always understood my feelings, and I know I've made it obvious enough. You've noticed, so I have nothing to hide. Emily, I like you. I've said this not only to you but also countless times in my heart."
"I know this might not be the best time to say this, it might seem like... taking advantage of the situation, but I know you and Michael have long lost any feelings, and he actually did such a thing behind your back..."
"I'm not trying to reopen your wounds, I just want to say, no matter what, I will always like you. Whether you divorce or not, I will always be here waiting for you."
"As for Veda, I think I should explain. Veda is your sister in name, and I only see her as a sister. Someone who was a sister from the beginning, how could there be love? Last time I asked her to the Watson Mansion banquet, it was because she was in a bad mood after that incident, and I thought taking her out would help."
"But that was also because the banquet required a female companion. I knew you would definitely go with Michael for the Smith Corporation, for the Smith family, so I could only invite Veda. But the one I like has always been you!" After his heartfelt speech, Emily's mind went blank again.
Too many things had happened that day, from replaceing out Sophia was pregnant at the hospital to her mom showing signs of life, and to Daniel suddenly bringing up these feelings.
Emily was momentarily stunned, panicked, and didn't know how to respond.
