The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 48 Visiting the Witch Doctor
Emily was caught off guard for a moment.
Veda, being her usual demanding self, said, "I don't care. You need to make me some special gifts. A card just won't cut it."
Emily, with a frosty look, shot back, "I can't do it. Find someone else."
Veda, not backing down, said, "I don't care. You have to do it. If you don't, I'll go to Michael or grandpa and tell them you're bullying me. Let's see if Michael will help you then."
Emily thought Veda was a lost cause. "Go ahead," she said, then turned and walked away. Veda stayed behind, stomping her foot in frustration.
When Michael found Emily, she was feeding the fish on the porch. He walked over, took the fish food from her hand, and said impatiently, "I'm taking you to the hospital for a check-up this afternoon."
Emily's heart skipped a beat, but she played it cool. "Why go to the hospital for a check-up when I'm fine?"
Michael sighed, "Didn't you hear what grandpa said? He wants me to take you to the hospital to make sure there are no aftereffects. You've been saying your stomach isn't well for a long time, but why are you still throwing up? I don't believe it's a minor issue, so we're going to the hospital."
Emily panicked. "I don't want to go. I'm too tired today."
But Michael, relentless, said, "Emily, are you testing my patience? You're going today, whether you like it or not."
Michael had been dealing with nausea and chest tightness for so long that he was also a bit on edge. So today, no matter what, he was taking Emily to the hospital.
Seeing she couldn't win the argument, Emily thought for a moment and decided to go, partly out of spite. She thought she might as well tell him the truth.
She thought, 'He couldn't possibly force me to have an abortion, right?' She replied, "Fine, I'll go. Wait a moment, I need to use the restroom."
Michael waited at the door while Emily quickly called Daniel from the restroom.
Deep down, she was really afraid that Michael might force her to have an abortion, so she immediately called Daniel.
Daniel said, "Don't worry, come over. I'll handle it."
After talking for a while, Emily came out of the restroom. As she walked to the door, she saw Mason talking to Michael, probably about company matters.
Emily said goodbye to Mason, and then Michael drove her to the hospital at high speed.
Emily couldn't help but ask, "Why are you in such a hurry? We could go another day."
Michael glanced at her and said, "With you being sick on and off, do you think waiting a few more days will help?" Emily ignored him, turned to look out the window, and they didn't speak again until they reached the hospital.
At the entrance, Emily suddenly said, "Michael, I want to see a shaman. We've been seeing modern doctors and taking medicine, but it hasn't helped. Let's try a shaman this time."
Michael thought for a moment and agreed. "Alright." They headed to the shaman's floor and found out the doctor was Kieran Wilson, Daniel's grandfather.
Unsurprisingly, Daniel was there too, and the two pretended it was just a coincidence.
Kieran greeted Emily and Michael with a smile, and Michael gave a nod in return.
Seeing Daniel there, Michael's face darkened, but he kept quiet. Kieran, however, was all smiles and invited Emily and Michael to sit down.
Kieran asked, "What's the matter? What's going on?"
Before Emily could say anything, Michael jumped in, "She's been unwell, frequently vomiting, and her stomach's been acting up. My grandpa's worried, so he asked me to bring her here. Mr. Wilson, please take a look at her." Emily felt a bit scared. She looked to Daniel for help, and he gave her a reassuring nod.
Feeling a bit more at ease, Emily was pushed into a chair in front of Kieran by Michael.
Seeing the silent exchange between Emily and Daniel, Michael angrily tightened his grip on Emily's shoulder.
Emily cried out in pain, "What are you doing?"
Michael let go of her shoulder, and Kieran, seeing this, smiled but said nothing. He then said to Emily, "Come, let me examine you."
Emily instinctively looked at Daniel, and Michael's face darkened as he snorted, "Mr. Wilson is examining you. Why do you keep looking at Daniel?"
Emily blushed and glared at him. "You talk too much. Can you leave?"
Micheal and Daniel sulked and ignored each other. Kieran examined Emily, frowned, and glanced at Daniel, who discreetly touched his nose and said nothing.
Michael immediately asked, "Mr. Wilson, how is she? What's wrong with her?"
Kieran glanced at Daniel and finally said, "It's nothing serious, just a weak constitution and a sensitive stomach. Has she been having trouble eating and feeling nauseous lately?"
Michael nodded. "Yeah, she barely eats anything at meals."
Emily glared at Michael. 'Couldn't I speak for myself?'
Kieran smiled. "It's just a weak stomach, probably due to the weather. It's late autumn, almost winter. I'll prescribe some medicine to help her recover slowly. A weak stomach can easily lead to irritability." Kieran's words had a deeper meaning.
Michael didn't get it, but Emily and Daniel did. Emily nodded. "Okay, I understand."
Emily instantly realized that Kieran hadn't mentioned her pregnancy, likely because Daniel had spoken to him beforehand. She gratefully glanced at Daniel.
Daniel smiled but said nothing.
Michael, standing nearby, looked displeased. 'Why is Emily always looking at Daniel during her check-up?'
He stepped in front of Emily and said, "Alright, let's go." He then pulled Emily up, said goodbye to Kieran, and left with her.
Michael found it very strange. Neither the shaman nor modern medicine had found anything wrong, only saying that Emily had a weak constitution. 'What is really going on?' he wondered.
