The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 83 It Just Had to Be My People
Emily turned around and saw Daniel standing there.
She was a bit taken aback since Daniel was a big shot at the hospital and should be swamped with work.
But this was already his fifth visit that morning.
Emily said, "It's fine, I can still move around a bit. A little activity is good for me."
Daniel replied, "Sure, but bones and tendons take time to heal. Plus, I'm a doctor; if I tell you to rest, you gotta listen."
As he spoke, Daniel smoothly closed the window and turned back to her with a gentle smile.
Emily nodded. "Alright, I get it."
Her lips curled up into a smile, making her already stunning features even more radiant.
Seeing this, Daniel's eyes lit up.
Honestly, keeping Emily in the hospital was partly because of her condition and partly because of his own selfish reasons.
He'd had a crush on her for years, so he wanted to see her more and also keep an eye on the situation between Emily and Michael, to see if they still had feelings for each other. "Daniel?" Emily's voice snapped him out of his thoughts. He responded, and Emily smiled at him, looking puzzled.
"What are you thinking about? Your phone is ringing."
The caller ID showed it was Veda.
His good mood instantly took a hit. Daniel chose to reject the call, but it rang again shortly after. Seeing this, Emily couldn't help but ask, "Who is it?"
Emily added, "It's okay, Daniel. If you have a lot of work, go ahead. I don't need to be looked after."
But Daniel wasn't about to pass up the rare chance to be alone with Emily.
He just smiled and shook his head. Just then, a nurse came in with a cart to change the medication, so he answered the call.
"Hello?" His tone was cold, with no expectation.
Veda said, "Daniel, what are you doing? Wanna hang out tonight? I know a super..."
Daniel responded, "I'm swamped with work and have no time."
As soon as he finished speaking, the nurse behind him told Emily, "Bed one, Emily, after today, all your medication will be done. After some observation, you can be discharged." The voice quickly reached Veda's ears.
Now she knew that Sophia wasn't entirely wrong about Emily, and her temper flared up. She spoke to Daniel very rudely, "Daniel, why are you with Emily again?"
She added, "Don't forget, she's a married woman. I've liked you for so many years, what do I lack compared to her?"
But what she heard next was, "The number you have dialed is currently on another call. Please try again later."
After that, Veda couldn't reach Daniel anymore.
At that moment, she was so angry that she wanted to slap Emily twice, but she knew that rushing to the hospital would only make Daniel dislike her more. Emily hadn't divorced Michael yet, so she was still part of the Smith family.
So she wasn't worried about not having a chance to deal with that bitch!
Thinking of this, a vicious glint flashed in Veda's eyes.
Scarlett received a call from Veda and said, "Alright, stop crying. Are you my child? How can you be so useless?"
She added, "I know, I'm at Michael's place. I'll talk to him."
The atmosphere was as tense as ever in Smith Corporation's CEO office.
Scarlett put her phone back in her bag and impatiently looked up at Michael, who was leaning against his desk, looking at a stock contract. Scarlett asked, "Did you hear Veda crying on the phone?"
Michael shot back, "You didn't have it on speaker, how could I hear?"
Scarlett was fuming and started ranting to Michael about all of Veda's complaints.
She didn't like Emily either, so she exaggerated, saying Emily was shamelessly flirting with men in public, disgracing the Smith family!
Scarlett was so caught up in her anger, she didn't notice Michael's hand gripping the contract so tightly it was almost crumpled. The veins on his hand bulged as he raised his cold eyes. Scarlett asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
She continued, "What did I say wrong? Are you going to argue with your mother over such a shameless person?"
If Scarlett's attack was like a raging fire, then Michael's counterattack was like a bucket of ice water poured over her head, leaving Scarlett powerless to fight back.
Michael replied, "Emily is my wife. You keep saying she's disgracing the family, and you shout so loudly, are you afraid people outside won't hear? Isn't the Smith family disgraced enough?" He added, "And yet, you still remember that you are my mother?"
This last question completely deflated Scarlett.
Yes, she liked to party and enjoy herself. She hadn't taken care of Michael and Veda much since they were born.
Fortunately, Veda was simple-minded and easy to manipulate.
But Michael wasn't so easy to deal with.
Because of this, Scarlett knew she was in the wrong.
She had tried to act pitiful and cry in front of Michael, but he wouldn't listen!
Michael said, "And, I've reviewed your stock contract. When Dad passed away, his shares naturally went to you."
He added, "So now, besides Grandpa and me, you hold the most shares in Smith Corporation. But you hardly ever come to the company, so your shares need to be restructured and redistributed." Hearing Michael's analysis, Scarlett was furious.
She said angrily, "I'm your mother. I gave birth to you, and you treat me like this!"
She continued, "Not only do you make me come to see you, but you also want to take my shares!"
It was outrageous!
Michael said, "I still acknowledge you as my mother, but this is business, and it has nothing to do with our relationship. Smith Corporation needs to restructure its overseas business and acquire several additional companies."
He added, "We need a lot of money, so idle shares must be put to use. This is non-negotiable."
With that, Michael turned and made a phone call.
Andrew came in, took the stock contract, and listened to Michael's instructions.
Seeing this, Scarlett knew he wasn't joking.
She immediately scolded Michael for being unfilial and as she left, she said, "Transferring my shares? Impossible! I won't sign!"
The CEO office door hadn't been slammed like that in a long time.
Andrew looked nervously at Michael.
Michael said, "Do as I said. My grandfather always said my mother only has usage rights, not decision-making rights, so the share transfer doesn't need her signature."
"And the overseas..."
Before Andrew could finish speaking, Michael interrupted him, "The overseas business and acquisitions don't need that much money. I just want to shut my mother's mouth, so she doesn't have time to slander people. Especially my wife."
