THE DEVIL HERSELF -
Chapter 35
Scarlet was in her room, trying to get some rest after the long, tense day, when her phone buzzed urgently. She saw it was a call from the hospital. Instantly alert, she answered, her heart pounding. "Miss Scarlet Decula" the voice on the other end was trembling, "Elia's heart is failing. He's not responding to treatment."
Scarlet's blood ran cold. Without a second thought, she grabbed her coat and rushed out, her mind racing with dread. She drove to the hospital at breakneck speed, barely noticing the traffic and the lights flashing by.

Scarlet burst into the hospital, her presence demanding attention. Doctors and nurses scattered, some whispering her infamous name. She strode straight to the intensive care unit, her eyes blazing with urgency and fear. Dr. Mason, the head surgeon, approached her cautiously. "Ms. Scarlet, I'm afraid there's been a complication. Elia's heart-"
Before he could finish, Scarlet's fury erupted. She grabbed Dr. Mason by the collar, her voice a deadly whisper. "My brother better be alive. Or I swear, I'll kill every last one of you and burn this place to the ground." Dr. Mason's eyes widened in terror, but he quickly nodded. "We're doing everything we can, but we need more time. Please, let us do our job."
Scarlet released him, her hands trembling with barely contained rage. She turned to see Diego standing there, his eyes full of concern. He had followed her from the compound, knowing she would need support. "Diego," she said, her voice breaking slightly, "I can't lose him."
Diego approached and hugged her tightly, feeling her tension. "We won't lose him, Scarlet. They'll do everything they can."
#000 IN THE THEATER 000
In the operating theater, the atmosphere was tense. Elias lay on the table, monitors beeping erratically. Dr. Mason and his team worked frantically, their faces set with determination.
"Nurse, more epinephrine!" Dr. Mason barked, sweat dripping down his forehead.
The nurse quickly complied, injecting the medication into Elia's IV. The heart monitor continued to show a flatline.
"Charge the defibrillator to 300," Dr. Mason ordered. The nurse handed him the paddles.
"Clear!" The doctor pressed the paddles to Elia's chest, sending a powerful jolt through his body. The monitor beeped once, then fell silent again.
"Damn it!" Dr. Mason cursed. "Again, at 360."
The tension in the room was palpable. The team was well aware of the dire consequences if they failed. They couldn't afford to lose Elias, not with Scarlet waiting just outside, her threat looming over them. "Clear!" Another shock. This time, the monitor showed a flicker of life. The team held their breath as a faint, irregular heartbeat appeared.
"He's got a pulse," one of the nurses said, her voice shaking with relief.
Dr. Mason didn't relax. "We need to stabilize him. Start a dopamine drip, and get him ready for the ICU."
The team moved quickly, working with a renewed sense of urgency and hope. Elia's heartbeat strengthened, and the color began to return to his face.
# 000 IN THE ICU
Scarlet and Diego waited, the tension between them almost tangible. Dr. Mason finally emerged from the operating theater, his face pale but relieved. "We've stabilized him," he said. "Elias is being moved to the ICU. He's not out of the woods yet, but he's alive."
Scarlet's eyes blazed with intensity. "He better stay that way. Or you know what will happen."
Dr. Mason nodded, understanding the weight of her words. "We'll do everything we can, Ms. Scarlet."
As Elia was wheeled into the ICU, Scarlet's fierce gaze softened slightly. She walked over to his bedside, her fingers trembling as she touched his hand. Despite her usual cold exterior, the sight of her brother fighting for his life brought a storm of emotions crashing down on her.
Diego stood by her side, his presence a calming anchor. He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "He's going to make it, Scarlet. He's a fighter, just like you."
Scarlet's voice was a whisper, filled with a mixture of hope and fear. "He has to, Diego. He's all I have left."
Hours passed, and Scarlet remained by Elia's side, her mind replaying the day's events over and over. Diego brought her a cup of coffee, and she accepted it gratefully. "You should get some rest," Diego said gently. "You've been through a lot."
Scarlet shook her head. "I can't leave him. Not now."
Diego sighed, knowing how stubborn she could be. "At least sit down for a bit. You need to take care of yourself too."
Reluctantly, Scarlet sat down, still holding Elia's hand. "You've always been there for me, Diego. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Diego smiled softly. "We're family, Scarlet. We stick together."

The doctors continued to monitor Elia closely. Dr. Mason gave a deep sigh of relief as Elia's vital signs stabilized. He looked around at his team, grateful for their hard work and dedication. "Nurse, keep an eye on his vitals and let me know of any changes immediately," he instructed.
"Yes, Doctor," the nurse replied, her focus unwavering.
One of the younger doctors, Dr. Patel, approached Dr. Mason. "Do you think he'll make it through the night?"
Dr. Mason rubbed his temples, the stress of the day catching up with him. "It's too early to tell. But we've done everything we can for now. It's up to him and a bit of luck."
Dr. Patel nodded. "I just hope Ms. Scarlet gives us a chance to do our job. Her threats—"
Dr. Mason interrupted, his voice firm. "She's desperate and scared. Let's focus on saving Elias. That's what matters right now."
Back in the ICU waiting room, Diego watched Scarlet, her face a mask of controlled emotions. He admired her strength, even as he worried about the toll this was taking on her.
"You know, Scarlet," Diego began, breaking the silence, "it's okay to let yourself feel. You don't always have to be the strong one."
Scarlet looked at him, her eyes filled with a myriad of emotions. "I don't know how, Diego. I've spent so long building these walls, protecting myself. If I let them down, I'm afraid of what will happen." Diego took her hand, squeezing it gently. "You don't have to do this alone. Am here for you. And sometimes, showing your vulnerability is the bravest thing you can do."
For a moment, Scarlet's stoic facade cracked. She leaned into Diego, letting his warmth and strength comfort her. "Thank you, Diego. For everything."
Diego held her close, his voice soft. "We'll get through this, Scarlet. Together."
As the night wore on, the ICU staff continued to monitor Elia's condition. Around midnight, a nurse noticed a change in his vitals.
"Dr. Mason, his heart rate is stabilizing," she called out.

Dr. Mason rushed over, checking the monitors. "This is incredible. His body is responding positively to the treatment."
He turned to the nurse. "Keep a close watch. This could be the turning point."
Outside, Scarlet and Diego were anxiously waiting. Dr. Mason emerged with a hopeful expression. "Ms. Scarlet, Elias is showing signs of recovery. His heart rate is stabilizing." Scarlet's eyes widened, a flicker of hope lighting up her face. "Thank you, Doctor. Keep him safe."
Dr. Mason nodded. "We'll do everything we can."
#000 IN THE MORNING
As dawn broke, the tension in the ICU began to ease. Elia's condition had steadily improved throughout the night. Scarlet had not left his side, her eyes watching over him protectively. Diego brought her a fresh cup of coffee. "How's he doing?"
Scarlet smiled faintly. "Better. Much better."
Diego sat beside her, relief evident on his face. "I told you he's a fighter. Just like you."
Scarlet nodded, her eyes never leaving Elia. "We've been through so much. I can't lose him, Diego."
Diego took her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "You won't. He's going to pull through this."
As the morning light streamed into the room, Elia stirred slightly, his eyelids fluttering. Scarlet leaned in, her voice gentle. "ELIAS? Can you hear me?"
Elias's eyes slowly opened, and he looked up at his sister. "Ariana..."
Tears welled up in Scarlet's eyes, but she blinked them back, her voice trembling with emotion. "I'm here, Elias. I'm right here."
Diego smiled, a sense of peace washing over him. "Welcome back, Elias."
As Elias's grip on her hand tightened slightly, Scarlet felt a surge of relief and hope. She had come so close to loosing him, but now, at this moment, she felt an overwhelming sese of gratitude. "Thanks for coming back to live, if you try this kind off shit again, then consider yourself dead cause I will kill you myself" she threatened, making them let out a low smile.
