The Failed Rejection

Liliana had been in a coma for two days now. She could only check her vitals so many times before she went crazy. Penelope sat there with her family. That is what this group of people had become now. Lili had brought them together, and it looks like they added another member. Axel was one giant bear shifter. Lili’s mates were jealous, but you could tell it was simply a friendship that formed between the two of them. Under the circumstances they were both in, it is reasonable.

Penelope was going stir crazy. So she checked her emails. Penelope was checking her email when she got a few surprise emails. The first one was from email was from Noah.

Things have been slow here. How are you? I have been feeling scared and anxious all day. I know these aren’t my feelings but yours. I am so worried about you, Niko is driving me crazy with worry. Will you please let me know how you are. Is Liliana ok? I wish I could call you, but unless it’s a matter of life and death I’m not allowed. While I believe in the work I am doing here, for the thousandth time I wish I was with you.

Noah felt her pain and fear over six thousand miles away. She couldn’t believe it. Penelope sent him a long detailed email letting him know what happened and what was going on now. She felt crazy for missing him. She blamed the mate bond. But she still didn’t stop herself from missing him. The night of their date they had taken a couple of selfies, she couldn’t stop looking at them the past couple of days. The smile on both of their faces were so genuine. Her heart hurt. She had to stop thinking of him.

She got a second email from her medical school.

Penelope Braxton,

You are invited to an orientation for first year medical students. During this orientation you will meet with your professors, familiarize yourself with the campus and dormitories. This orientation is only offered to a small number of first year medical students so please R.S.V.P. to the email below as soon as possible.

Penelope was so torn, she really wanted to go, but she didn’t want to leave Liliana. What should she do? Liliana was in a coma, she had no idea when she would wake up. Her dilemma didn’t go unnoticed, as Jackson wrapped his arm around her and asked what was wrong. Penelope walked out of the room and showed him the email on her phone.

“That’s great! When do you leave?” Jackson asked.

“Well I’d have to start packing right away, and leave within two days.” Jackson realized her dilemma.

“Penelope, for the past several years I have considered you girls my own daughters, so I ask what would you do if she was awake?”

“I’d go without any hesitation,” Penelope admitted.

“And what do you think Lili would do when she wakes up and replaces out you missed an opportunity like this?” Penelope sighed. Jackson was right, Liliana had always been her number one supporter when it came to becoming a doctor.

“Well?” Jackson asked.

“She’d be so mad at me.” Jackson laughed.

“She would, you get to packing, and I’ll let everyone know what’s going on. If there is any change you of course will be the first person to call.” I wrapped Jackson in a tight hug. I couldn’t help but let a few tears drop down.

“Thanks dad.” When Penelope looked up she saw Jackson had a few tears of his own in his eyes.

“I have waited a year for you to say that. Now get going, you have a lot to do in a few days.”

Unbeknownst to the new father daughter duo a figure watched them from the corner, seething in jealousy.

Things have been slow, which was a good thing. The bombings had moved to another location. Noah had mainly seen patients coming in for a checkup before emigrating. Noah typically would give them an immune booster, and send them on their way. However, some would be sick from tuberculosis. Unfortunately for them he would have to hospitalize them and keep them there for at least a week before they could be bussed out.

It’s crazy to think that even with thousand of miles separating us you can still feel my emotions. Well there is some good news, we were able to replace Lili. The bad news is the shape she was found in. She had been tortured without mercy for days. They whipped her back, goddess Noah she will have scars forever. We aren’t sure if she was r.aped, but we know she was sexually assaulted.

The worst was the surgery. She had nicked the femoral artery, she did a tourniquet and it started to heal but she tore it again. That and she had several other stab wounds. The shifter she came in with said she knew she had nicked her artery cause I made her study with me. I guess that is a good thing of me wanting to be a doctor, that info saved her life prolly.

But goddess Noah! She died on the table Noah. She died for at least five minutes. I had to shock her with paddles at least five times.

F.uck! Noah took a break from reading the email. Lili and Penelope were so close, Noah actually teased her before comparing them to the sisters from that Disney movie. While Penelope made a fuss about it, one could tell deep down she loved it. He read on,

It’s a miracle she’s alive, that’s all there is to it. Idk what id do without her.

There was a moment before the surgery when the surgeon wished you were here to perform the surgery. And I couldn’t stop myself from wishing you were here too. I spent all of this time pushing you away, and I can’t say how much I regret that. I regret everything. I kno that u love the work ur doing, and I’m being selfish right now. So I’m sorry for that. I just had to say it, at least once.

It’s not a declaration of love, but he’d f.ucking take it. Noah couldn’t help the huge grin that graced his face as he replied to her email with his heart full, and Niko’s tail wagging.

“Mate will love us soon. She will forgive us.”

“I hope she will too, I’m doing everything I can to make that happen.”
