Orientation wasn’t as nerve racking as she thought it was going to be. There was a long introduction. In a giant lecture hall, there was about hundred students there. It was more students than she thought there was going to be. Penelope didn’t want to know how many medical student Perelman admitted every year.

Then a general meeting, a getting to know one another party. She got to meet a lot of her professors. Penelope got to meet several other students, which was as annoying as she thought. They were all pretentious and stuck up. Penelope just hoped the rest of the student body wasn’t as bad as these select few.

The only good thing was there was finger food. Penelope was digging the east coast food. Lots of seafood, and apples. She was going to have to google why there was apples in almost everything. Grilled cheese with apples was surprisingly amazing!

After listening in on a few student conversations. Penelope ignored the students and focused on trying to talk to her professors. Generally professors either loved or hated her.

That was because as an EMT and a wolf she had real world experience. And there wasn’t a lot of students that had it. There was nothing a professor hated more than being corrected. Or when a professor asked ‘who here has put in stitches?’ None of them actually expect a student to raise their hand.

But that was at the undergrad level, who knows maybe they will appreciate her now. Penelope still wasn’t holding her breath.

There was a long list of books for her start reading. Well she technically didn’t have to it was just a suggested reading list to help with the first semester. But it was heavily implied to buy the damn books and read them before sessions started. Penelope read over the fifty book list and a few of the books popped out at her.

Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy

Clinically Oriented Anatomy:

High Yield Embryology

Lippincott’s Illustrated Review of Biochemistry:

First Aid for the Basic Sciences, General Principles

First Aid for the USMLE Step 1:

She had those, she had read the first aid books, she had to for EMT training. The others she had read on a recommendation. Noah recommended several of the books to her. The others were recommendations from other doctors and nurses.

Penelope thought it was unfair for just those selective few to have it. She decided she was going to post the list on Facebook and instagram. She didn’t know how many people would replace it but, oh well.

Penelope was standing alone by table of books, available for purchase when a man walked up and took the list of books. He read over the list of books and grunted. Penelope gave him the side eye. The man was attractive for a human, she’d give him that. He was tall, six foot. He had a short buzz cut like he had been in the military. The tattoos however, they threw her off.

“Here you clearly need this cause I don’t.” The man said.

“Why do I need this?” Penelope asked.

“Cause a pretty little thing like you don’t belong here.” Wow, a back handed compliments were always her favorite.

“Oh yeah? Why is that?”

“Gorgeous woman like yourself can’t handle the b***d, leave that to the men.” Penelope didn’t notice the other men that came up behind him, but they started giggling.

“Really, men giggle like school girls now do they?” Penelope said with attitude. His men came toward her. But he stopped them,

“Don’t be like that, just stating facts.”

“Really? The facts are this. I don’t need pigs like you to tell me what to do. I may only be twenty two, but I’ve already stitched up more people than I can remember, delivered babies, and restarted my sisters dead heart. So don’t tell me what I can and can’t do. Pric.k! Leave the gender stereotypes in the military.” The man was floored, his buddy asked,

“How did you-“

“Hair cuts. Have a nice orientation.” Penelope stalked away. Penelope decided to leave as there was nothing for the rest of the day. Penelope went back to her dorm and decided to check her emails. She probably had several emails from Noah. It had been several days since she checked her emails.

However, when she got settled into her room there hadn’t been anything in her emails from him. Penelope checked her junk folder just to be sure. Nope. Nothing. Nada. Koko started to whine in her head.

“He’s probably just busy,” she told her wolf.

“Miss mate, want mate.”

Penelope was in a quandary, she had never felt like this before. She had never really had an attachment to anyone that wasn’t family before. In high school she had a ton of friends, but they are all mated with kids now. Penelope had hooked up with a few guys, a few being three, her mate included.

She lost her virginity to her high school boyfriend. When he met his mate at eighteen, he actually wanted to reject her. Penelope would hear of no such thing. In all honesty Penelope never loved him, she probably wouldn’t even remember Holden’s name if he didn’t take her virginity. Holden was now a father, and the new gamma. The second male was her casual f**k buddy, the poor guy lost his mate in a rogue attack.

The third was Noah. So Penelope never dealt with having this. Not having a man respond to her messages. She was always the one who ended things. Penelope was always the one who reached out to men. Penelope hated that Noah made her feel insecure.

Regardless of her feeling Penelope decided to send Noah a quick email about what was going on with her life. Then she quickly checked the closest hospital website for job openings. As per the norm there was an opening for an EMT she went ahead and put in her resume.

Penelope texted her sister and let her know how the first day went. Then she went online looking for some of those books. She was only able to replace three or four at a cheap price. She bought them, and then decided to go to bed.

The next day of orientation went similar to the first. It was becoming tedious. Penelope was more than likely just harsh because she’s hadn’t heard from her mate. That and the jacka.ss from the other day had tried to talked to her. Lovely, just what she needed.

Penelope wanted to duck out early, but she didn’t want to make a bad impression. So Penelope was discussing classes with Doctor Chu when the some other classmates came up. They started talking like she wasn’t there, Penelope was going to bow out gracefully. However, the pretentious bastard said to her,

“You wouldn’t know anything about that would you?” Penelope was fed up with this people.

“You know you really should get your nose out of the air before you trip on the airs your put on. Please excuse me Doctor Chu.” Penelope was afraid she offended the professor but she could tell that she was hiding a smile behind her hand.

Penelope decided to get rhe hell out of here. Penelope decide to leave and head back to her dorm. Maybe try and replace a place for her to shift.

When I traveled to Pennsylvania a cafe did put apples in this grilled cheese, it was so good.
