The Failed Rejection -
Chapter 33
Penelope was furious.
Noah was perfectly fine. She traveled all this way, had two layovers only to replace out that Noah was using this incident to get out of his contract. Penelope wasn’t judging him on what he decided to do. She was pissed his family called him, and she thought Noah was on deaths door.
Only to walk in and replace him smiling and laughing with his family. Penelope was dumbfounded.
Flash back. Begins
“Hello, I’m looking for Noah Logan, I’m Penelope,” Penelope asked the nurse on call. The nurse nodded.
“Yup him and his family have been expecting you,” the nurse told her and gave her directions. She quickly walked up to Noah’s room. She had a feeling of deja vu walking up to the designated room. As she was hesitating outside of the door she heard laughter, then Noah’s voice. Penelope thought it was odd her wolf being so silent during this time but she simply knocked on the door. Ignoring it. The door opened to reveal a replica of her mate if he was a few years younger.
“Can I help you?” The man asked. Penelope recognized his voice from the phone, but she wasn’t paying attention to him. Her focus was on Noah, who looked well despite the fact that he was supposed to be blown up. Noah seemed to be in conversation with some one else from his family. He just noticed that she was at the door, the fact that Noah didn’t sense her long before now spoke volumes to Penelope.
“Penelope! Your here!” Noah said surprised.
“Yeah, your brother told me you were practically dead,” Penelope said and gave the man in question a death look. Nick looked right back with the same anger right back at her.
“Yeah about that….” Noah trailed off.
“Yeah, I can see I’ve been lied too. Again,” Penelope pointed out and Noah winced.
“Don’t you talk to my brother like that,” Nick said trying to let out his aura over him. Penelope just laughed.
“That aura is pathetic, especially when you’ve been around actual Alpha’s, my wolf may not be strong but she’s still of gamma b***d. My sister is also a Luna of the strongest pack around.” Penelope stated proud of her sisters accomplishments. Everyone looked a little nervous at that, Penelope didn’t have time for this nonsense. She was fed up.
“Noah, we will talk later,” Penelope turned around and walked out the front door.
Flashback over
That was several days ago, she never had a chance to talk to Noah alone. Instead of staying in a hotel she went back home to have a nice thanksgiving with her family. She loved seeing her family again.
Penelope hated being in this limbo, but she stuck by what she wrote to Brax. Killian had told her that Brax had learned where he came from and was headed back to his home pack in Alaska. While she wished she could go with him. Penelope knew Brax needed to do this on his own. Penelope also knew that she had to finish her classes. While she could quit now and still work in the infirmary it wouldn’t be her dream. She had to keep pushing forward.
Penelope returned to her university dorm from her Thanksgiving break only to replace Noah there waiting for her.
“What are you doing here?”
.
Noah POV
It wasn’t until Penelope walked out of the room that he realized.
“I had no idea that she was here,” he whispered.
“What son?” His mom said from the bathroom. If only his mother was here, she might have been able to smooth the situation over.
“Penelope, I didn’t sense her.” Noah said quietly. His entire family was quite. His brother Nick had left the room, and Noah was glad about that. His wolf was pissed that he tried to intimidate his mate. Niko was about to let out a growl when Penelope stood up for herself.
Noah always remembered how his mated friends always could tell when their other half was coming a mile away. Noah didn’t even know when his mate was on the other side of the door.
“Son,” he heard his mothers voice and looked up and his room was cleared out. “Why do you want to mate this girl so bad?”
“She’s everything I want in a mate. She’s smart, beautiful, feisty, loyal to those she loves. I know I have screwed up.” Noah trailed off,
“Exactly son, I love you. But look how you have handled this situation from the beginning. You have done nothing but mess it all up. I told you not to sleep around, but you did.”
“I didn’t know that-“ he tried to defend himself.
“But that’s how it happened,” his mother insisted, “And instead of giving her time to deal with it. You trying forcing the issue.”
“I know!”
“Then you left, why?” Her mother asked him.
“Because it was to hard to be around her and not have her,” Noah admitted ashamed. His mother was ashamed too, they sat quietly for a few moments before his mother spoke.
“Well I think it’s time you do the right thing by this girl,” his mom stated.
“What do you mean?” He asked terrified.
“You know what I mean son. I warned you when you were young. Just like all of your brothers. These are the consequences of your actions, you have lost your mate. If the moon goddess blesses you maybe you will get a second chance mate.” Noah’s mother told him solemnly. Noah couldn’t stop himself, he broke down and cried in his mothers arms. Thankfully his mother soothed him.
Noah cried for every mistake that led him to his mate rejecting him. The random she-wolf’s. Cheating on his mate. Everything.
Most of all he cried for the life he would of had with Penelope if he wasn’t such a f.uck up. The pups they could of had together. Noah always dreamed of delivering his own children. He would never have that with Penelope. Self-loathing filled him, and stayed with him until he left the hospital.
Noah didn’t talk anymore about Penelope’s visit. His family knew she was a topic not to be discussed. His family still came by to make sure he was okay, his family was amazing.
Noah reached out to Alpha Killian after he was discharged from the hospital. Penelope had left the pack after thanksgiving dinner and went back to her dorm. Noah drove from Boston to Philly to her med school.
Noah didn’t know Penelope’s dorm number just the building. He waited for several hours until she showed up.
Then there she was. Noah quickly stood up. Penelope spotted him.
“What are you doing here?” She asked him frustrated. Noah took a deep breath.
“If you still want it. I’m ready to accept your rejection.” Noah said honestly. Penelope looked taken aback for a moment.
“Come on upstairs.” Noah solemnly followed after Penelope knowing that it was over for them.
Penelope led him into her small room. She put down her small duffel bag of clothes.
“It’s a nice room you have here,” he complimented. Penelope gave him a look.
“Noah, it’s a sh.it box. Let’s just get it over with,” Penelope stated impatiently.
“Look I just wanted to explain my brothers behavior.” Noah tried again but Penelope waved him off.
“I have a protective sibling too, I get it,” Penelope said. Noah sighed. Penelope wasn’t going to let him stall any longer.
“Let’s sit down, it will hurt less.” They both moved to the bed. Noah grabbed her hand, he couldn’t not touch her one last time, she allowed it. Once they were on the bed, Noah said the fateful words.
“I Noah Logan accept Penelope Braxton’s rejection.” There was a terrible pain in his heart, but not as bad as rumors made it out to be. Noah rubbed his chest hoping to make the pain go away. Noah saw Penelope do something similar.
“How bad is it for you?” Noah asked.
“Not terrible,” Penelope said.
“Why is that? I hear it’s excruciating?” He asked and Penelope let out a small smile.
“Our bond wasn’t very strong Noah. I rejected you immediately, and no matter what we tried it just didn’t form,” Penelope said brutally honest.
“I hate that,” Noah said.
“Me too, but that is how it happened, maybe we can get our second chance mate,” Penelope said with a smile on her face. Something about her smile made Noah uneasy.
“What do you mean by that?” Noah asked. Noah took a look around and saw that Penelope was clutching a shirt in her hand. That was odd. Noah grabbed the shirt and gave it a sniff.
“Male,” his wolf said angrily. Penelope looked a little nervous.
“What do you think you have already found your second chance mate?” Noah asked furious.
