The Failed Rejection -
Chapter 4
Noah POV
Noah was sitting in his orientation class, thinking over the past several weeks. Noah couldn’t get the night with Penelope out of his head. It was the best night of his life, and he wasn’t even talking about the s*x. Just talking and laughing with her was like heaven. The next morning though it was like something spooked her, or she regretted it. Noah hated feeling that she regretted being with him. He wanted to sit down and talk with her, but he had to get his affairs in other before he left.
The first thing he had to do was get vaccinated. It was total bullshit since he was a werewolf and he was practically immune to all diseases. When he became a doctor he had to get all of the human vaccines to be able to work in a human hospital to finish his residency. Noah had his MMR, smallpox, all kinds of hepatitis vaccines, and Chicken pox vaccine. So useless in his opinion.
However, now that he was going to another country apparently he needed a plethora of additional vaccines. He was given; Japanese Encephalitis, malaria pills, and an anthrax vaccine. f*****g anthrax, Noah asked if he was going into a war zone, and the nurse administering the vaccines said she didn’t know she was just told to give him these vaccinations.
Now he was sitting in his orientation for Doctors Without Borders and he was having some reservations about going through with it, especially when he found out where he was going.
“Well as I’m sure you all know there is a continuing war in Corona. There is constant bombings by Sodenia, and Corona citizens are fleeing their homes. Doctors Without Borders have teams set up, Haldova, Ebsonia, and several other cities. We also have stations set in surrounding counties for fleeing citizens. Your group will be heading out to one of these aid stations for your contract duration. While you may be moved to a different station, you will remain in Eastern Europe.” Noah raise his hand,
“Are we allowed to share this information with our families and loved ones?”
“You may tell them you are headed to Eastern Europe to help with the conflict in Corona, but do not give anymore details than that. For your own safety.”
“What do you mean our safety?” A female asked. The woman sighed,
“Unfortunately what we do contains risk, if always has. The less the people you tell the better.”
“I’m surprised they are telling us where we are going before hand.” One doctor noted.
“Well they aren’t, not really. Just a general area,” he responded.
“Which one of you is Doctor Logan?” The woman at the front asks. Noah raises his hand.
“Come with me,” Noah stands up and walks with the older woman down the hall.
“You are a trauma surgeon correct?” She asks.
“Yes ma’am,” he replied shortly.
“Okay then, you will be going to Ebsonia to work in our aid station.”
“That’s a war zone, isn’t it?” The lady looked at him solemnly,
“Yes it is, it’s where you are needed. Lots of people come through there having been affected by the bombing. Mostly we have been training the people for mass casualty events. However, as the war continues and the civilian casualty numbers rise they need our help.”
“You sound like your military,” Noah commented. The woman laughed.
“This isn’t my first rodeo, I’ve been in war torn country many times. So what did you think you were signing up for?” She asked him.
“Well my uncle was a doctor, and so is my dad. While my dad took the traditional general practitioner route. My uncle he spent several years with this organization before he found his ma- his wife. Then he started to work in the ER. He always talked about the kids he brought vaccines to and how you would make sure they had medical supplies and other things like that.”
“Oh so he must of went to Africa or South America.” Noah nodded his head,
“I just remember how proud he was of his work, and thinking that I wanted to do something like him.”
“What you will be doing is equally if not more important. You are a trauma surgeon, and these poor people are loosing their home. They are loosing their access to healthcare. Doctor Logan, you being there can save who knows how many lives, that could have been lost.” Noah nodded.
“Yes ma’am.”
“So are you coming?”
“Yes ma’am,” he decided. She was right, he was a good surgeon and he signed up for Doctors Without Borders to help people. Noah was going to help no matter what his hesitations are.
“I just need to talk to my fiancé first.” She nodded,
“Everyone gets a chance to talk to their loved once before they leave.”
Noah pulled out his phone and messaged Penelope.
Me: can we FaceTime real quick?
Pen: sure just give me five minutes.
Noah waited impatiently in this tiny a*s box of a room to talk to his mate.
“It’s wrong to leave mate,” Niko told him.
“I know, but Penelope needs time, she needs to become a doctor before she will settle down with us. We have to let her follow her dreams.” Niko whined in his head. At least he was talking to him again. Niko stopped talking to him after he got drunk and slept with that random she-wolf. Noah didn’t blame him. He was an i***t. Finally he felt his phone buzz in his hands. He clicked accept and Penelope’s beautiful face filled up the screen.
“Hey Noah, what’s going on?”
“Hey Pen, I just wanted to let you know I found out where I’m going.” Penelope was silent for a moment.
“I’m going to Corona.”
“What? Why Corona?” Noah looked away from her angry eyes for a moment,
“Well they need trauma surgeons.”
“No Noah I don’t like this!” Penelope said upset.
“Everything will be ok Penelope.”
“You don’t know that! You could die!”
“Penelope, after what we just shared, there’s no way I’m not coming back to you. I love you.” Penelope gasped and looked away. Niko whined in his head.
“I know you don’t love me yet, and it’s my own fault, but I’ll make you fall in love with me.” Penelope gave him a small smile,
“Can I see you before you leave?” Noah couldn’t help but let out a huge smile,
“I’m not sure, I will ask. I have to go. I will talk to you later.”
“Bye Noah.”
Noah hung up, feeling lighter than he had in a long time.
Authors note:I got a lot of information from Doctors Without Borders website. Feel free to look up what they are doing to help the people of From all over the world.
The information on vaccines I am not 100% certain of. I do know the peace corps requires it, and my husband was in the military and had been given the same vaccinations, so I assumed some one going into a similar war zone would as well.
