The Failed Rejection
Chapter 60

Penelope went to bed that night alone, but woke up the second he settled in next to her.

“Penelope-“

“You’re leaving tomorrow aren’t you?” She cut him off and he let out a heavy sigh in the dark.

“I am.” Penelope wanted to say more, wanted to scream at him for not understanding how much being here meant to her, but she kept silent. Honestly not many understood her drive to become a doctor. Killian was funding her, but Penelope knew he was only doing it for Liliana’s sake.

Penelope knew they needed to talk about this, but she just couldn’t. So when she felt LB’s hands start to roam over her body she just went with it. Soon Braxton was fingering her clit and then sliding his enormous e******n inside of her.

When she woke up in the morning he was gone. She couldn’t stop the flare of anger building inside of her, but she quickly tamped it down. Penelope knew LB had to do this to move on and heal from his pregnant mate’s passing. If he didn’t then he would never move on and the two of them would never be happy.

“We can understand, but still be angry about it,” Koko huffed in her mind. Penelope agreed with her wolf and decided to be angry for awhile.

Penelope checked her phone and there were no updates on her sister which worried her. She quickly got dressed and ready for the day. When she was headed out the door she decided to give Helen a call and see if there were any updates. The phone rang as she started to walk her normal route to her classes.

“Hey Penelope! You ready to be an aunt again?” Helen asked excitedly causing her to smile.

“Definitely, I booked my ticket for Friday, how’s my sister?” There was a silence at the end of the line.

“Helen?”

“The labor is a long one, that’s all I know,” Helen stated and her heart sunk.

“So was Callum’s” Penelope commented as she remembered her nephew’s labor.

“That’s right, you delivered him didn’t you?” Helen asked surprised, Penelope felt pride fill her.

“I did, I have to go. Let me know if you get any news.” The two said goodbye and hung up. It was hard being away from her sister during the delivery, especially since she delivered Callum. Penelope entered the building and then went into the classroom.

“Hey Penelope, you cutting it close,” Chris said as she sat down.

“I know, family emergency,” she said and he gave her a questioning look but couldn’t ask as the professor started lecture.

Penelope decided to put all of her attention on her classes and lectures. It was the only way she was going to be able to get through the next several days being away from her mate and family.

Braxton pov

He hated leaving her, Braxton sat on the plane headed for Ohio feeling like a pile of garbage.

“Did you apologize?” Alana asked him and he shook his head staring out the window. He heard two sighs and a grunt from the prisoner on the floor.

“You are going to loose her if your not careful,” Denali said from his place across the plane. Denali had been in charge of watching the fox shifter since Brax had brought him from his club and complained about it ever since.

“I just need to finish this and then it will be done,” Brax said frustrated. Denali looked like he didn’t believe him, but his brother stayed silent. He was the best brother, Denali always supported him.

They landed in Ohio and thanks to Axel were given a friendly bear pack to stay at for the duration of the mission. The pack was located a few hours away from Toledo which is where it is believed the rogues were staying. Axel had briefed the Alpha of the situation and he was more than happy to offer them a place to stay. The trio was greeted at the front of his packhouse and he was a young but powerful bear alpha.

They landed in Ohio and thanks to Axel were given a friendly bear pack to stay at for the duration of the mission. The pack was located a few hours away from Toledo which is where it is believed the rogues were staying. “You are Alpha Braxton from a pack in Alaska correct?” The man said shaking his hand.

“That’s right, your Alpha Shawn?” He asked shaking the man’s hand. Brax noticed the alpha gave him a curt smile.

“Got a place for our guest?” Denali asked and tossed the fox down on the ground. The alpha sniffed the air shocked.

“How?”

“How about I tell you about it over dinner, I’m starving.”

Braxton was sitting down at dinner that night tryin to talk to the alpha and fight off the single woman of the pack. Alana claimed her territory immediately. It wasn’t a minute after they walked through the door that a female tried to place her hands on Denali. Alana let out a growl and Brax smiled when he heard the crunch from the doorway. He turned and saw Alana breaking some shebears wrist. The woman seemed to know better than complain, she simply scampered off to lick her wounds.

Brax was surrounded by women at dinner while his bear was chuffing in annoyance. He looked at the alpha sitting at the head of the table who seemed to be basking in the attention of his woman.

“Thank you for dinner as well as securing our prisoner for the night, we will be leaving in the morning.”

“Hunting rogue wolf’s in Toledo you said?” Shawn asked as one of the females fed him a bite of steak. Braxton nodded,

“Yes that’s right.”

“Toledo is not a place you enter into lightly, even for an alpha,” The alpha told him in warning. Brax nodded but Denali who was more cautious chimed in,

“What do you mean?” The alpha sighed as Braxton brushed a hand off his arm.

“Toledo has been know for human trafficking for years, but they have always left us shifters alone. These past few years there have been stories from girls that have gotten rescued of wild animals being caged next to them.”

“Sadly animals are trafficked right along next to humans and shifters,” Alana chimed in. The alpha nodded,

“The stories continued to get more disturbing about women changing into wolves. Of course the authorities didn’t believe her…” the alpha trailed off.

“Sounds like the men we are looking for, why haven’t you done anything?” Braxton asked his bear furious.

“We are a small clan, only three hundred.”

“Do you even have any warriors or is it just filled with sluts?” Alanna asked looking at the woman pawing both the alphas.

“Hey!” A couple of the woman said angrily, but most of the women didn’t bother. Alanna raised a good point, he hadn’t seen many males compared to females. Where were they? Something about this pack just didn’t sit right with him. When another woman tried to grab his crotch Braxton had enough.

“Will you get off of me! I have a mate!” He swung his arms and dislodged most of the women that cling to him. The woman all gasped at him and one even fell to the floor.

“I’m sorry, but please just let me eat in leave!” The woman that fell burst into tears and ran off, causing Braxton to let out a heavy sigh. The alpha just sat at the head table watching with a smile, and if Braxton was right he was getting jacked off under the table. He quickly ate and excused himself to his room for the night. There was definitely something off about this place.

“I’m sorry, but please just let me eat in leave!” The woman that fell burst into tears and ran off, causing Braxton to let out a heavy sigh. The alpha just sat at the head table watching with a smile, and if Braxton was right he was getting jacked off under the table. He quickly ate and excused himself to his room for the night. There was definitely something off about this place.

Braxton was beyond frustrated, he was splashing through piss and Goddess knew what else in the shanty town in the outskirts of Toledo. This was day four of searching for the rogues and still nothing. They had searched all the traditional abandoned industrial spots rogues like to camp out in and found nothing. Braxton had been lost in where to look next when Shawn suggested to hit up the trucker stops. Apparently it was a hotbed for p**********n and human trafficking. Braxton, Denali, and Alana spent two nights on several different locations. They found p**********n, but the women they came across were definitely pros and had been in the business for a long time. Braxton got plenty of offers for a ‘free ride, on the house,’ he politely declined.

Braxton returned to the packhouse that night and dismissed his brother and Alanna so they could spend some time alone. He was completely discouraged and wondering what he was even doing here. Braxton knew he needed to interrogate the fox shifter again, maybe some t*****e would get some information out of the man. Brax headed towards the dungeon.

Braxton was missing his mate, he should have talked to her instead of mating with her that night.

“Owww!!!”

He was so distracted he almost didn’t hear the voices coming from the cells as he walked down the stairs to the dungeon.

“Owww!!” Braxton heard the fox shifter cry out in pain. That alerted him to something occurring and then he looked around. The guards that were normally posted at several check points were found. Braxton was worried some one was going to kill the fox shifter so he hurried to the cell.

“How the hell did you get yourself caught?” He heard the voice of Alpha Shawn say menacingly. Braxton froze in his tracks and then he quickly masked his smell, only alpha’s had the ability to do this.

“I’m sorry, those white bears caught me- ow!” The fox cried out in pain.

“White bear? That alpha is a white bear?” Braxton smiled hearing the fear in the alpha’s voice.

“Fear us,” his bear was being very vocal and it concerned Braxton.

“Yes!” The fox screamed out. “Now you know why I had no options, he was going to kill me!”

“Him! The rogue king is going to kill you, if I don’t first you imbecile.” The rogue king? Alpha Killian killed him. Right? Braxton didn’t know what was going on, but it seemed this tiny bear pack was in the middle of it. Anger started to raise through him, this bastard Alpha sent him on a wild goose chase. Did Shawn think he was dumb? Braxton had been paying attention to the pack’s roles, there was barely any men in the pack. Honestly it was like a cult. Brax just needed to make a couple of phone calls. He quickly backed out and started to formulate his plan.
