Lycan Prince Hunter

After they had sedated Kailen. The doctor cut off what was left of her clothes. Seeing the extent of her injuries had my blood boiling. Jake had bitten her over my mark and one of her b.reasts. I hated that she still smelled like that jackass. "Why isn't she healing?" I asked Dr. Connors. I noticed that all her wounds weren't healing as fast as they should and the bite marks looked like they were infected.

"Stress. Once her mind is calm, she will start healing faster. But in the meantime, I'll need to stitch her up and put some ointment on her wounds. I'll be right back with a kit." She explained before leaving the room.

I covered Kailen up with a blanket before I sat down on the chair beside her bed. I pulled out my phone to text Greyson, Zach, and my father. When I was done, my phone instantly rang and Greyson's name popped up on the screen. "Greyson?" I answered.

"Hunter, your uncle knows about his son's death. He's trying to replace Kailen. Your father is trying to defuse the situation. Has Kailen said anything about what happened?" He asked me.

"f**k. No, we had to sedate her. She's not healing. Also, Jake tried to mark her. He bit over my mark and one of her b.reasts." I told him.

"F.ucken hell. What a f.ucken monster." Greyson exclaimed.

"Tell my father to hold him off as best he can. Kailen hasn't given her statement yet." I told him.

"I'll let him know, but Hunter, this might start a war." Greyson warned me.

"My uncle doesn't have money for a war, and I'll challenge him if it comes to that." I told him.

"Zach and I will be there soon." He told me before ending the call.

Dr. Connors came back in, took some photos before stitching Kailen. I knew she was doing it for evidence. This way, there was proof of her injuries.

"How are you doing, Prince Hunter?" She asked me.

"I'll be better once she heals, and she's awake," I answered.

"This may set back her recovery," she said.

"And we will handle it one day at a time," I told her, and she nodded.

"Dr. Connors, has Kailen made an appointment with you?" I asked her.

"I'm not sure why?" She answered.

"Kailen went into heat a few days ago, but it only lasted about eight hours." I told her. She stopped what she was doing and looked up at me.

"I honestly didn't expect you to say that. After she is all healed up, I can check everything out. But I've seen the damage. It's unlikely that the heat will lead to pregnancy." She explained. She went back to stitching while I sat beside Kailen, holding her hand. "Prince Hunter, are you worried that Kailen won't be able to give you an heir?" Dr. Connors asked.

"If she can't have a child, I'm not worried about that. But I am worried about her. I know she feels like she has to give me an heir. And I don't want her to be disappointed," I told her.

"I'm glad that Kailen has you, Prince Hunter. Kailen will make a wonderful Queen, despite her traumatic past." She said, and I agree. Kailen is the strongest person I know, and she will get through this.

When Dr. Connors was done, she covered Kailen back up and told me she would be in to check on her. I thanked her, and she left. Thinking over the last couple of days, I should have ordered Jake to leave. He threatened to take my queen, but because he was family, I brushed it off, as he was jealous. He could have killed her and I let him stay. Guilt was eating at me while I watched her sleep. Her face was bruised a dark purple, her eye still swollen and her l!ps split open. I was eager to hear what had happened, even though I had a good idea. She didn't go into the closet willingly. So what actually happened?

I texted Greyson to tell him to get statements from her class. They were in the room when Jake was there before she ran after him. Maybe they can give some insight into what happened before she ran after him and why.

Listening to the beeping of the machines, I pulled myself from my thoughts when I heard a commotion coming from the hallway. I could hear shouting and things being thrown around. Making my way to the door, I peered out to see my father and uncle arguing in the hallway. My father's beta, gamma, and delta were all trying to protect my father. Stepping out of her room, I closed the door behind me.

"What's the problem?" I demanded.

"Your fucken mate killed my son!" My uncle screamed at me, getting in my face.

"Your fucken son attacked my mate!" I growled out, letting my aura out. He may be the king's brother, but I'm the heir to the throne.

"I demand you do something about this!" he roared.

"This is my kingdom and you have no right to make demands of my people. Gamma Kailen clearly felt threatened or she wouldn't have had to kill him." My father said.

"He was your fucken nephew! Are you really going to take the word of some w***e?" My uncle screamed, and I punched him in the face. He flew back into the wall behind him.

"Call my mate a w***e again, and I'll kill you myself." I growled out.

"Mark my words, this means war." My uncle said, rubbing his jaw. He pushed past everyone, rushing out of the hospital.

"Son, how is she?" My father asked me.

"Sedated. She wasn't healing. Dad, he bit over my mark." I told him.

"Go be with her. I'll try to fix this mess." He sighed.

"I'll challenge him if needed." I told my father.

"Lets hope it doesn't come to that." He told me before he left. I walked back into Kailen's room to replace that she was now awake. "Baby, how are you feeling?" I asked her, rushing to her side.

"Was that about me?" She whispered.

"Beautiful, don't worry about that. When you are ready, you can tell me what happened." I told her, taking her hand in mine. "Hunter, Jake was at the auction house." She whispered, looking at me with tears in her eyes.

"Baby, I'm so sorry this happened. I should have ordered him to leave," I told her.

"It's not your fault. I shouldn't have gone looking for him." She told me.

"Why did you?" I asked her and she sighed.

"I remember hearing his voice at the auction house. He spoke to me there. I think there was a bidding war between him and Marcus. I also think he knew Marcus. He mentioned him." She said. "Baby, can you tell me what happened?" I asked her.

"I ran after him and he pulled me into the closet. He attacked me and I killed him." Her voice cracked, saying she killed him. Her eyes swelled with tears and I knew she felt guilty. "Baby, you did what you had to do." I told her, moving to sit beside her on the bed. I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her to my c.hest.

"Hunter, I know this is going to have consequences." She mumbled into my c.hest.

"What you did was in self-defence. He bit your mark to make you submit to him. Dr. Connors has the photos to prove this. Don't you worry about the consequences," I told her.

I texted Greyson to tell him to get statements from her class. They were in the room when Jake was there before she ran after him. Maybe they can give some insight into what happened before she ran after him and why. "He bit my mark?" She asked me.

"He did, but it will heal." I told her, k!ssing her temple.

"Hunter, I'm so sorry." She cried into my c.hest.

"Shh, it will be okay, baby. Everything will work out." I told her, holding her close. I let her cry in my arms until she fell asleep again. It broke my heart to see her in so much pain.

Dr. Connors came back in after Kailen was already sleeping again. She checked her wounds and informed me they were healing. She also helped me move Kailen so I could lie down beside her. When she was done, she applied more ointment to the bite marks and left again.

I was snugged into Kailen when Zach and Greyson entered her room. Greyson took my seat and Zach pulled up a chair to sit on the other side of her bed.

"How is she?" Greyson asked me.

"She woke up when my uncle started a commotion in the hallway." I told them.

"Has she said anything about what happened?" Zach asked.

"She said that she remembers Jake talking to her at the auction house." I told them and both of them gasped.

"So, Jake knew her already." Zach breathed out, and I nodded.

"This had to have been his plan. I'm not sure why it never happened before, but he knew she was here." I told them.

"I'll pull out his financials and see what I can replace out," Greyson said.

"And I'll track his whereabouts for the last four years. If he knew she was here, why did he never come for her?" Zach asked us.

"Did she say anything else?" Greyson asked me.

"She said that when she remembered, she went after him. He pulled her into the closet and attacked her." I said.

"Did you pull the surveillance?" I asked them.

"We tried, but there was a blind spot right there. The closet wasn't visible to us. We saw Jake and then we saw Kailen, but we don't know what happened after they walked by the closet." Greyson told me, and I cursed. We were fixing that camera problem. "Okay, well, Dr. Connors has photos of Kailen's wounds. And this was self-defence. He bit over my mark. He wanted her to submit." I told them.

"Hunter, we also found Kailen's u.nderwear." Zach said, and I had to hold in my growl to not wake Kailen.

"I'm glad he's dead or I would have killed him myself." Trying to calm myself, I breathed out. I didn't want to scare Kailen.

"We'll go start our search. The faster we get this done, the better it will be for Kailen," Zach said, standing from his seat. "Thanks. Let me know what you replace." I told them.

"I'll also talk to her class. I didn't have time to, earlier." Greyson said, and I nodded. After they left, I snuggled into Kailen while she slept on my c.hest. Looking down at her, I could see that her face was healing. Thank the goddess, her mind was calming down so she could heal.

Lying here, staring at the ceiling, I wonder what I should do. Should I challenge my uncle for his half of the kingsdom? It would take away the threat to Kailen's life. I knew I could beat him, but I was concerned about how Kailen would take it. But if I did nothing, this could happen again, or worse. He could send someone to kill her and then we would be at war and I wouldn't have Kailen.

Sighing, I snuggled closer to her, closing my eyes and breathing in her scent. I knew what I needed to do to protect my mate. Now I just had to convince my father and Kailen that this was the only option.
