Caliana's

POV

"What are you talking about?" The Alpha's voice startled me and I jerked up, looking over my shoulders.

"Nothing," I was quick to answer, but he didn't believe me. Did he hear our conversation?

"I was telling Cali that I'm not sad about Mommy because I have her now," Love was more than happy to indulge her father and I shut my eyes. I forgot to tell her that our little conversation was a secret. Alpha Edward was fuming mad and if this was a cartoon, smoke would be coming out of his ears however, he kept his cool in front of his daughter.

"Lovely girl, that comic you like so much is on, go and watch," he said.

"But I'm eating and I haven't done my homework yet," Love said, eyeing his father and happy that she can watch TV.

"Just go," she stood up and I did too, ready to follow her but his gruff voice stopped me from going

"Stay,"

When Love got out of sight, I slowly turned to face the Alpha.

"Why are you asking my daughter questions about her mother?" He growled at me.

"I wasn't prying... I was just... " I was at a loss for words.

"Just curious?"

"Yes, I know I shouldn't have and I'm sorry,"

"Don't ever in your life, bring about my daughter's mother, it's none of your f*****g business!" He roared and I swallowed. I wanted to tell him that it was my business too as a member of this family and pack and more especially as Love's other guardian too but I opted to nod. He watched me with an angry gaze and I tapped my fingers against my legs softly. Gathering my courage, I stepped closer to him.

"I heard you had a mate before, is that... um true?" I asked quietly. He growled again. This time dangerously and the aura he exuded made me shrink inwardly but I stood my ground.

"I have a right to at least know basic things," I said.

"No you don't, you are no one to me and are only here because I bought you," he grounded the words that pierced me like a double-edged dagger without so much as thinking.

"Just because you are here and getting people's respect and my daughter's affection, don't think you're indispensable, everyone is, and especially YOU," he said and walked away, leaving me there. Tears danced in my eyes and I let them fall. I didn't wipe them as I watched him leave. When I sniffed, his retreating back stiffened but he didn't stop.

An hour later, I wore my jogging gear and bolted through the forest. As soon as my feet hit the mutual ground between packs around, I felt him arrive but he didn't appear just yet. I put my hands on my hips as I searched with my eyes.

"I know you're there!" I hollered and a second later, Henderson came out of hiding. I gulped involuntarily as his dark eyes eyed me intensely, he wore black pants, boots, and a white black shirt.

The scent of vanilla washed over my nostrils, it was alluring for some reason.

"Most women replace me irresistible, I won't blame you if you inhale a while longer," he said confidently. I looked at him unconcerned about his words but I died of embarrassment that he noticed I inhaled his scent.

"You mentioned that I was also Alpha Edward's mate last time we spoke, what did you mean?" I got straight to the point.

He came closer and breathed out my name.

"Caliana, Caliana Meyers," a small smile stretched across his lips. He pulled out a flower and two boxes of chocolate, I hesitated to take them but I did know he wouldn't say a word if I didn't accept this. "How do you know I like these?" I asked.

"I went to extremely expensive measures to learn about these small things about you," He said

"Why?"

"Because I'm curious about you,"

"I'm sure you've learned all you need as in, you even know my favorite flowers and chocolate," I said.

"I guess. After I learned all about you, I wanted to get to know you on a personal level, what you did for your pack is noble,"

"I have no time for this, are you going to tell me what I want to know?" I snapped.

"Walk with me, Caliana," He glimpsed over his shoulder to check if I was and he was pleased to see me right behind him. "How's your stay at the Golden stone Manor," he asked.

"You've been following me around all these weeks just so that we can make small talk?" I hissed, his eyes were amused.

"It wasn't like that at first but now, yes, I want to make small talk," he shrugged nonchalantly.

"Which pack do you belong to, Alpha Henderson,"

"Some powerful pack like that," he answered vaguely and pressed his lips together. He took me to the top of a huge boulder, the boulder was gigantic and had so many colors painted on it, I recognized the Golden Stone Pack colors there too. It was really beautiful. "This land was unmarked and two powerful packs were fighting for it so the Lycan elders made it everyone's land, no one can fight here, and was used as a beacon of peace among the two packs," he explained. I didn't care about the history of their packs, nevertheless.

"You mentioned Alpha Edward had a mate, can you tell me about that?" I asked, running out of patience.

I was a patient person but I didn't want to be with this man longer than I'm supposed to and I only asked him because no one will tell me anything!

"Meet me here again and I'll tell you, for now, can we just sit together as a sign of good will?" His voice was so gentle that I nodded, accepting his request. Minutes turned to hours, and we watched the sunset until Juanita mind-linked me.

"I have to go Alpha Henderson,"

"Call me, Henderson," he smiled.

"I have to leave now, Henderson," I said. He held my waist and helped me get down from the boulder. I grabbed my chocolate and waved at him before turning to walk back. Henderson watched me still until I disappeared.
