The Lycan’s Rejected Mate -
Chapter 206
Caliana's
POV
"Kelly, you can't make such an accusation, the Black stone is influential, are you sure you want to speak ill like that out loud?" She hissed, but Luna Kelly was tipsy and didn't care at this point. "And Jane Anne was our friend!" Scolded Luna Hope.
"Ladies, come on, let's just relax and have a few drinks," I called for a waiter who refilled the ladies' drinks
"Keep them coming," I smiled at the gentleman politely and I saw a cute blush on his cheeks.
"Ladies, let's loosen up a bit and just talk!" I said dramatically. The girls cheered when the drinks came and we found a secluded place to sit.
"What do you mean by what you said?" I asked.
"Well, if this is a safe space we can talk about it," Sighed Carol. I nodded.
"Debora sent her daughter, Jane Anne to seduce the Alpha and when he was head over heels for us, he should kill him and his brothers, then destroy the pack," Luna Hope said, drinking. My lips opened and I gasped, no way.
"Well, Jane Anne had always had her eyes on Alpha Edward since we were in our early teens, so let's not blame it all on Deborah, she knew what she was doing!"
"Right," Kelly supported.
"Classic Jane, always loved the hot men," The ladies clicked their glasses and I frowned
"I remember almost killing her when I found her kissing my ex-boyfriend in our first year of college," Kelly snickered.
"Were you and Jane Anne close?" I asked.
"Not really by choice, we ran in the same high circle so we had to be friends, the truth is that she was a sneaky w***e who'd f**k anyone who gives her the right amount of attention, we were shocked when she confessed to being madly in love with Alpha Edward just after a few months of dating," Luna Hope said.
"But who wouldn't, he's Fineeee," I growled at Kelly and she giggled, raising her hand in surrender.
"I loved watching them, they were happy times, if only she hadn't allowed her past back in," Luna Hope Chimed.
"Whatever do you mean?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Well, after she gave birth to their daughter, she could feel that Alpha Edward was drifting away from her for some reason, and she sought comfort in the arms of her ex-lover, it was only met to be a casual hook-up once in a while but Alpha Edward caught them, he kicked her out of course but she kept coming back in the name of her daughter but we all knew she didn't even enjoy being a mother nor did she care for the poor girl,"
What kind of woman was Jane Anne, for one not to care for their child?
"Jane got too obsessed with Alpha Edward, and kept going back but he gave her the boot kick each time," I was still wrapping my head around it all.
Jane Anne was unsuccessful with the plan because she fell for Edward and cut all ties with her mother. However, I wondered why Edward started to withdraw from her, could it be that he started to suspect her devious plans? My eyes roved to Edward once again, he was talking to Jamal and the priestess, and they were drinking and laughing. I judged him too harshly without knowing anything. Deborah Henderson was in the wrong, she had no right to do that. Her husband died in a duel that he issued against Edward, and her bitterness caused her daughter's death too.
Then how did she die? How did the rogues come into play? Before I could ask any more, the woman I saw with Alpha Dean's side earlier passed by and greeted us. The girls answered cheerily as always but they had scornful looks in their eyes. "What about her," I asked.
"That's Larisa, she is Alpha Henderson's lover," Carol said, "She has been by his side for years now and I'm surprised they are not engaged,"
"She's a w***e, you can't turn those into a wife, Carol," Laughed Luna Hope.
"Doesn't he have a mate?" I asked.
"No, but he was engaged three months ago,"
"What happened?"
"It ended in tears, the man was not ready for marriage, poor Amy," They giggled.
"She deserved it, she was too pretentious for my liking, acting all holier than thou," They agreed.
I smiled tightly at the ladies, they have now started talking about others and I have already got what I wanted from them. I stood up; " Ladies, I'll see you later. Enjoy your drinks," I raised my glass to them, they complained that I was leaving so soon but I made up a silly excuse, and besides, I had to talk to Love. I promised I'd call her before she goes to bed. One of the servants directed me to the second-floor balcony, it was quieter and I could speak to Love. I pulled out my phone from my small purse and dialed Love's number, she picked up on the first ring. "Hello,"
"Hey, baby," I smiled.
"I miss you,"
"And I miss you more, my love, what are you doing?" I asked.
"We are playing charades, and I'm losing," She informed me.
"I'm sorry,"
"What are you doing?"
"I'm at the party," I told her. I felt a presence behind me and I stiffened, I recognized that vicious aura.
"Alright, baby, sleep well. I heart you," I concluded.
"Bye, bye, Cali, I heart you too," Love said. We don't say I love you, we use, I heart you instead.
I slowly turned around and came face to face with her, Deborah Henderson, she had a sneer on her face.
"So you're the Luna I've been hearing about," She said, her voice thick with bitterness and anger.
"How dare you, even show your face here, linked closely to the man my daughter loved?" She spat, and I was surprised by her outburst. She scrutinized me up and down in disgust. Deborah was trying to make me feel insignificant but it wasn't working. "You are no one, nothing at all, so don't think yourself high,"
"And yet, you are here talking to me," I said, keeping my voice calm. I was unbothered by her words. "The mother who led her daughter to death," Her eyes widened at my words and her breath shuddered. She approached me angrily and was ready to hit me but I caught her hand.
"Bold of you to hit someone you barely know," I said. She took back her hand.
"That spouse of yours was the reason my husband and daughter died, and he has the guts to keep my granddaughter from me, he will pay dearly for it," She growled, Deborah was engulfed in anger.
"You sent your daughter to murder an entire household and you dare to threaten me, how dare you?!" I growled, angrily. My eyes glowed and I exuded my aura, she was intimidated by this and she backed away, no more was she as arrogant or confident as she was a few seconds ago but she tried not to seem fazed as she glared at me. I didn't know my aura was so intimidating until now, this was probably because of my cruel Alpha mate.
"You have no right, Caliana Meyers, no right to be with that man and act all motherly to my granddaughter," She spoke as though she would explode. Was she angry that I was there for Love and not her? I softened at her
"You have no right to pity me, you're a thief! You are living my daughter's life," She sniggered
"Do you want to rest ma'am? You seem frustrated," I said, my eyes narrowing at her. She was about to retort but Dean joined us, great! I didn't want to be anywhere near Dean and risk my mate seeing us.
"Mother, is that any way to talk to guests?" His voice was soft but dangerous. His mother swallowed and backed away, glaring at her son and then me, before leaving us. A second passed and it turned to a minute, Dean's gaze scanned me, and an image of us kissing flashed in my mind. He smiled and stretched his hand to touch my cheek. "I missed you, Caliana, you stopped going to our place," He said. I pulled back from him and gave him my back.
