Cadfan invited Carvalho to come in and sit on the sofa respectfully. After sitting down, Cadfan sighed before he said painfully and miserably, "Sigh! Uncle Mason, you really have to help me this time!" Carvalho nodded before he said seriously, "Since I am already here, I will naturally do my best to help you. So, you will have to tell me the exact truth of everything that has happened."

Cadfan hummed slightly before he sighed and said," This is all my fault. I am to blame for being too muddled and confused. I made some very unreasonable decisions..."

With that said, Cadfan explained the details of how the pair of brother and sister, Jaime and Sophie, had both been kidnapped when they were in Japan, how Rosalie had been sent there to kill and annihilate the entire Matsumoto family, and how he had subsequently betrayed Rosalie, and even how he had tried to assassinate Helen after that, to Carvalho. 4

After he was done speaking, Cadfan looked at Carvalho with a worried expression on his face as he asked, "Uncle Mason, do you think that I am getting my just retribution for everything that I did?" Carvalho waved his hand before he said seriously,"

Cadfan, no matter what it is, you are just like my own nephew. So, I will not deliberately try to intrigue you and make a mystery out of something simple. You have to remember that there is no such thing as karma or retribution at all from the Feng Shui perspective or even from a scientific point of view." 4

Cadfan asked in surprise, "Why? Doesn't the Taoist law that you believe in teach you about rebirth and retribution?"

Carvalho shook his head before he said, "What you are talking about is Buddhism. Furthermore, Feng Shui and metaphysics are not the same as Taoism. What we believe in is the Book of Changes and the Eight Diagrams.

Cadfan hurriedly asked, "Then, is it true that there is no such thing as karma or retribution?"

Carvalho smiled as he said, "In my opinion, it is naturally true. However, it does not matter even if you do not believe it. I will sort out our perspective from the Feng Shui and metaphysics point of view for you, and we can simply treat it as a discussion." 6

Cadfan hurriedly replied, "Please go on."

Carvalho paused slightly before he said, "Let me ask you something. Based on the law of karma, those who commit evil would have to be severely punished, and those who do good will subsequently be rewarded, right?" 3

Cadfan nodded. "According to their law, that seems to

be the case."

Carvalho asked, "Then, let me ask you something else. Some babies die right after they are born. They have only just started their life, and they have not done any evil or good. So, why aren't they given the opportunity to grow up healthily, then?"

Cadfan looked a little embarrassed as he replied, "This ... I... I do not know either..."

Carvalho nodded before he asked, "Then, let me ask you another question. Why does it seem as though some people who have been doing good all their lives still have an ill-fated destiny?" 3 With that said, Carvalho sighed in a melancholic manner as he said slowly, "When I was young, my father moved our whole family to Eastcliff in order to escape the war."

"At that time, my family and I lived in a small alley, and there was a woman next door who was a vegetarian. She would always be reciting the Buddhist scriptures every day, and she also focused on doing good all her life." 2

"Her husband died young, and she took great pains to raise her three sons so that they could grow up well and start their own families. However, when she grew old, none of her sons provided for her or took care of her at all."

"Her three daughters-in-law were constantly fighting for their family properties, and they would always be fighting and quarreling all the time. Whenever they came by, they would deliberately snatch and rob her of the small rations that she had, and they were only satisfied after smashing her water tank. All of them were just hoping that she would die sooner so that they could occupy her house." 5

"Although her sons did not raise their hands to beat her, they would always ridicule her whenever they came over. When there was a funeral for one of their neighbors, they pointed at her and cursed at her as they asked why she could not be as considerate as the old man next door and die sooner?"

"The old woman did not have enough food to eat, and she could not even dress up well enough to warm herself up. She constantly had tears flowing down her face all day long. Although she did not end up crying until she turned blind, her eyesight began deteriorating badly. In addition, she could not afford to light up the oil lamp. So, whenever the sun had set, she would live in pitch darkness, and her life was a complete misery." 6

"However, before any of her sons regained their conscience, she eventually froze to death on an extremely cold winter day in Eastcliff!" 6
