"Oh!" Although Jacob felt a sense of disappointment, he still had to pretend to have a sudden realization. He patted his head and exclaimed, "Oh! My stupid mind keeps recalling memories of the past and

forgetting the more important matter at hand."

He then hurriedly said, "Matilda, please sit down and wait for me. I will get you the wet towel!"

Matilda hurriedly replied, "There is a bathroom on the first floor. Just make a left turn in front."

"Great!"

Seeing that Jacob had turned around and gone to the bathroom, Matilda finally felt a sense of relief.

In truth, Jacob's purpose was very clear to her.

To be honest, Jacob was not only her first love, but he was also the man she had loved the most in her entire life. So, naturally, she has some fantasies and expectations for Jacob.

However, she was a woman who had received higher education and had been decent her entire life.

She knew that although Jacob and Elaine were separated for now, their marriage was still official. Based on this, she felt that she could not go against her principle knowing that it was wrong to be physically close to a married man. 4

Although Elaine had shamelessly gotten in between Matilda and Jacob by having a sexual affair with Jacob, Matilda would not want to do the same thing in return.

Just as she sighed silently, Jacob had already walked over with a wet towel.

Jacob wiped her forehead with the wet towel and said, "Matilda, I brought you some easily digestible dinner. After this, I will help you back to your room, and into your bed. Then, I will feed you some food. Also, you've already taken your fever medicine, so I believe it won't be long till the fever subsides."

Matilda nodded. "Thank you for your help, Jacob. To be honest, I'm really hungry. I haven't eaten much all day."

Jacob hurriedly replied, "Hey, why didn't you tell me earlier? You should have told me as soon as you fell ill. If it wasn't because I went on WhatsApp to ask you, you wouldn't have told me about it!"

Matilda replied, "I just didn't want to bother you. I thought that I could carry myself through this, but I didn't expect it to become more severe."

Jacob sighed and said with affection, "In the future, if such incidents were to occur again, please inform me immediately. I will definitely come to your side, understand?"

Matilda nodded her head and said with gratitude,"

Alright... I understand..."

Only then was Jacob satisfied and said, "By the way, Matilda, where is your thermometer? I'll take your temperature again to see if it's getting better."

Matilda nodded and pointed at a thermometer on the coffee table as she said, "Before you came, I wanted to take another test, but I didn't really have any strength to shake the mercury of the thermometer. Please, could you please help me shake..."

Jacob hurriedly reached out and grabbed the thermometer with his hand, and as he shook it, he said worriedly, "Hey, I really didn't know that Paul was on a business trip. Otherwise, I would have come to see you a long time ago. You are home alone and sick, what if something were to happen to you?!"

He then handed the thermometer to Matilda and said," Put it on quickly. Next time, I will buy an electronic thermometer to avoid such inconvenience."

As soon as his voice died down, he remembered something and hurriedly backtracked on his words. "I think it's best not to buy the electronic ones. The electronic ones are not as accurate as the mercury thermometers. If you were ever to be unable to handle it on your own, you can always look for me. I will help you.

Matilda felt touched and nodded her head.

She was very pleased with Jacob's thoughtfulness, especially when she was sick. A sudden sense of

dependency arose from within her heart.

So, she said with a bit of shyness, "Thank you, Jacob." s
