The Man in Power After Being Married into Her Family -
Chapter 2795
Charlie smiled as he said, "The matter this time was relatively simple. I went over to deal with it, and I came back immediately after that."
Claire asked, "Have you eaten dinner yet? I made some bolognese for dinner tonight. It was quite delicious. Why don't I cook some spaghetti noodles for you now?" 2
Charlie asked curiously, "Claire, aren't you quite busy these days? Why do you suddenly have so much time today, and you even prepared dinner on your own?"
Claire smiled as she said, "I went to Emgrand Group for a meeting in the afternoon. The first phase of the plan has already passed Emgrand Group's review. So, I could relax a little. It just so happens that I came home early today, and the tomatoes in our garden were growing quite well. So, I picked a few of it and made bolognese pasta." 4
As she spoke, she hurriedly took Charlie's hand as she brought him toward the dining room. As they walked, Claire said, "Your trip was so short this time. So, it must be very tiring for you to travel back and forth. You can sit down first, and I'll cook the spaghetti noodles for you!"
When he saw that Claire was so concerned about him, Charlie was very touched deep down in his heart. So, he nodded gently as he smiled and said, "Thank you for the trouble then, wife."
Claire smiled sweetly. "How is that any trouble? It's no trouble at all."
After entering the dining room, Charlie's father-in-law, Jacob, and his mother-in-law, Elaine, had just finished eating. When Jacob saw Charlie entering the dining room, he said joyfully, "Oh! My good son-in-law is back. Where did you go this time? You're back so soon."
Charlie smiled slightly as he thought to himself,' Although I did not leave for too long this time, I traveled a really far distance. A trip to Syria is six thousand kilometers. It is as much as a one and a half round trip from Aurous Hill to Japan.'
But Charlie naturally could not tell his father-in-law that he had gone to Syria. So, he simply smiled as he said, "I went to Lancaster this time. It is not too far away, and it is only a three-hour drive."
"Lancaster..." Jacob asked curiously, "In that case, is your customer this time Travis Lane, the richest man in Lancaster?"
Charlie decided to make the best out of the situation, and he smiled as he said, "Dad, your guess is really accurate!" 4
Jacob chuckled. "My brain is pretty awesome!"
Elaine, who was aside, smacked her lips and said," You have the audacity to brag about that brain of
yours? You cannot even do anything right!"
Jacob was furious, and he blurted out, "Elaine, what is your problem? I did not offend you this time, right? So, why are you trying to join in the fun now?"
Elaine said disdainfully, "Why? Am I wrong for telling the truth? Don't I have a say in this family anymore?" 3
Charlie hurriedly said, "Mom, Dad, the both of you should not always seize the opportunity to bicker whenever you can do so. It will only wound your feelings."
Elaine hurriedly said, "Oh, my good son-in-law, I'll have to interrupt you. I do not have any feelings for Jacob anymore. After all, the both of us are already separated." 4 Jacob grunted, "Oh! You are finally saying something that makes sense. I do not have any more feelings for you either. The both of us are just neighbors at best now."
Elaine immediately slammed her hands on the table as she shouted angrily, "Jacob Wilson! Am I giving you too much face?! I said one sentence, and you're just waiting to retort me with three sentences. Do you think that you're that much more capable now?!"
Charlie hurriedly tried to smooth things over as he said, "Sigh, Mom, you don't have to get so angry. Isn't Dad just joking around with you?"
After he was done speaking, Charlie looked at Jacob a s he winked at him and said, "Dad, since you have just finished eating, you're just being idle anyway. Why don't you go out for a jog, then? Now that the weather is getting warmer, jogging by the riverside will not only help with your digestion, but you will also be able to keep fit and strengthen your body at the same time. You'll be so happy."
The meaning behind Charlie's words was to ask Jacob to look for Matilda.
Didn't Matilda enjoy jogging by the riverside? It would be a good idea for Jacob to take advantage of Charlie's words to go out and look for Matilda.
But as soon as Jacob heard Charlie asking him to go jogging by the riverside, he hurriedly waved his hand and said, "I do not want to go... I can still feel the throbbing pain in my calves right now. I think that it will only get better after ten days or half a month at least!" 8
