The Mirrorverse -
Chapter 59
Ellie
“Come on Viskra, please don’t do this,” pleaded Ellie but there was no answer. “You cannot risk the lives of so many to save someone that it’s not in your power to save!” she pressed him but was met only with silence.
For the nth time, Ellie thought of all that she had lost. The life she had lost. She thought of their descriptions of the other Ellie, the unbroken one. Somehow when their time lines split, she had ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that had changed her forever, separating her from the other Ellie by an order of magnitude.
She thought her emotional level was already saturated, but she was clearly mistaken as she thought back to the night of the rape. The night when she stopped being a child forever. She had only been sixteen, nearly a woman in her eyes, but really still a child.
Ellie had never told either Maya what happened that evening while she was walking home from school on her own, while Maya was in the psychiatric hospital. She knew that the new Maya had sussed that something was very different, but Ellie could never tell her what.
It was so hard to imagine the other her, all silly and carefree. Giggly and bouncy and just not her at all. Ellie carried a burden that she couldn’t let go of.
It was bubbling beneath the surface, had been since she slept with Brian. Sleeping with anyone was not something she did often. Now her complete loss of control had brought it all to the surface where it now spilled over as she lay completely motionless on the warm stone floor. She had no more tears left, nor did she feel any inclination to cry.
Her soul felt fractured, her spirit left her. Ellie was truly broken.
