The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 11
Alpha Colton POV
I was sitting in my office, trying to get some work done, but I couldn’t focus. My mind kept thinking about Josh and Jessica, I knew that they were currently having lunch together, alone in her room. The thought was making me angry and anxious for some reason, I didn’t understand why.
I decided to mind-link Josh.
‘Are you still with Jessica?’ I asked, through the link.
‘Ya we’re just about done.’ Josh replied.
‘Come to my office, when you’re done.’ I ordered and ended link.
I sat back in my chair, thinking about what they talked about. I wonder, if she gave him any information, that might help us figure out who she is.
Ten minutes had passed and I was brought out of my thoughts, by a knock at the door.
“Come in” I announced.
I watched the door open and my Beta Josh, walked in and took a seat across from me.
I waited for him to speak, my patience was growing thin, he just sat there with a smirk on his face, while looking at me.
“Sooo…” I said, with an irritated tone.
“I had a nice lunch with Jessica, she’s a really sweet girl.” Josh said, still smirking at me. I rolled my eyes, I knew he was toying with me.
“Did you learn anything useful.” I asked sternly, irritation clear on my face.
“Not really. She doesn’t have a boyfriend, if that counts.” Josh said jokingly and I shook my head in frustration.
“I don’t care about that, did she tell you where she came from? Does she have any family? What the hell is she?” I barked out the questions. Josh let out a dry chuckle.
“Ok, settle down Alpha.” He said and paused for a second, before he continued. “She said, that she woke up after being in a coma for a week, someone had found her in the woods and brought her to the hospital. The doctors, never figured out why she was in a coma. One of the nurses, ended up taking her in and now they are roommates. She has no clue if she has any family and knows nothing of the supernatural world. She asked, what we are, but I decided not to tell her. I think she’s a little overwhelmed at the moment, plus, I also think that you should do the honours of breaking that information to her.” Josh said, as he let out a sigh when he was finished.
I let out an irritated huff, at the information he gave me, none of this makes sense. How does she not remember who she is. I still think she’s lying.
“I don’t think she’s lying, Alpha.” Josh added, almost like he could read my thought. I didn’t respond. How do I replace out the truth about her?
All of a sudden, my phone started to ring. I picked it up, curious as to who was calling me.
“Good Afternoon, Alpha Colton speaking.” I announced.
“Alpha Colton, it’s Alpha Ryan calling.” I heard Alpha Ryan’s voice through the phone. I wonder what he’s calling about. He’s the Alpha of the Cold Stone Pack, I’ve never really been a fan of the guy, I don’t like how he runs his pack.
“What can I do for you, Alpha Ryan?” I asked, now curious as to what he’s going to say next.
“Alpha, I have a missing pack member, that I’ve been searching for, she’s been gone for several months now and I haven’t been able to replace her. I’m wondering, if you’ve had anybody cross onto your territory, that might match her description. She’s 19, 5’3, long black hair and green eyes.” Alpha Ryan asked, with a serious tone. My eyes flew to Josh, who had wide eyes, I knew he could hear our conversation, with his enhanced hearing. The description matched Jessica perfectly, but something felt off in my gut. I don’t trust Alpha Ryan, or believe anything he says.
“How did she go missing?” I asked. Alpha Ryan was quiet for a minute, likely coming up with a story.
“She assaulted one of my top warriors and ran way, I need to replace her, so she can be punished accordingly.” He replied and I frowned. She assaulted someone? I still wasn’t sure if I believed him. What I did know, was that I wasn’t willing to hand Jessica over quite yet, there has to be more to the story and I plan on replaceing out what it is.
“Sorry Alpha Ryan, I haven’t seen anyone matching that description, If I do, you’ll be the first to hear about it.” I said, blatantly lying to him.
“Thank you Alpha, have a good day.” Alpha Ryan said and I hear the line drop, when he hung up.
“Alpha, that was strange, if she really belongs to his pack and committed a crime, why did he wait months, before contacting other Alpha’s?” Josh asked, with a concerned frown. Josh was right, it was strange that Alpha Ryan waited this long, before seeking our help.
“I got a feeling, that him contacting me, was like a last ditch effort, since they haven’t been able to replace her.” I replied, with my own thoughtful frown.
“Is that why you lied?” Josh asked, curiously. I nodded my head. I don’t know why I even care, I should just hand her over and be done with this mess, but my wolf won’t let me. He’s adamant that we keep her here and safe.
I wish, that I could of asked Alpha Ryan more questions about her, he probably has a lot of answers that I’m looking for, but if I had asked questions, it would of raised his suspicion. I want to keep her a secret for now.
“Our whole pack knows that she’s here Alpha, the word got around fast. I wouldn’t be surprised, if Alpha Ryan eventually replaces out.” Josh said, sounding concerned.
“I know, this could start a war, we need to get answers fast, so that I can figure out what to do with her.” I replied, while letting out a heavy sigh.
“If she really came from his pack, she’s likely a werewolf.” Josh said. I had thought that too, I wonder if she really is.
“I’m going to talk to her, I need answers.” I said, as I stood from my chair. Josh didn’t say anything and I walked out my office, leaving him behind.
I got to her bedroom and took the key down, from on top of the door flame. My heart was racing, it was almost like I felt excited to see her. Hector was anxiously pacing in my head.
I didn’t bother to knock, I opened the door and scanned the room. I found her pressed up against the wall, in the corner of the room. Her eyes grew wide when she saw me and she looked scared.
“Sit down.” I ordered sternly and pointed to the couch. She didn’t waste time and practically ran over to the couch and sat down.
I walked over and sat in the armchair, directly across from her. I watched her, for a few minutes before speaking. She looked nervous and afraid, the emotions I saw didn’t seem fake. Good, I thought to myself, hopefully she gives me some answers, if she’s truly afraid of me.
“I just had an interesting phone call.” I said casually, while assessing her reaction. She didn’t say anything and seemed genuinely curious, as to what I was going to say next.
“Alpha Ryan, from the Cold Stone Pack called, he asked me if I’ve seen a missing women from his pack. The description he gave me, matches yours to a T. He also informed me, that this missing pack member, assaulted one of his men and ran away to avoid punishment.” I said with an eyebrow raised, I was anxious to hear what she would say.
Jessica’s heart beat started beating rapidly, her brows were furrowed and I could see that she was scared, confused and shocked at my words. She lowered eyes to the ground and appeared to be thinking over, what I had said.
I was taken back by her reaction, she wasn’t acting like someone, who had just been caught in a lie. She’s a good actress, because she certainly is pulling off the, I don’t know what you’re talking about, look.
“What are you going to do?” She practically whispered the question, her eyes remained fixed on the ground.
“Tell me what happened first, or I’ll have no choice, but to hand you over to Alpha Ryan.” I replied sternly. Her eyes shot up to meet mine, they were wide with fear.
“I don’t know that name, I’m sorry, I don’t even know if what he said is true.” She said, sounding panicked. She sounds so sincere, Hector believes her, but I don’t.
“Well, I guess I’ll make arrangements, for you to be brought over to his pack.” I said nonchalantly, hoping to scare some answers out of her. She shook her head violently.
“No, please don’t. I’m not a violent person, I’m sure if I did assault someone, it would of been in self defence, I wouldn’t hurt a fly intentionally.” She begged, I could see the desperate in her eyes. It bothered me, she looked so innocent and she almost had me fooled. I definitely wouldn’t picture her as a violent person, but you just never know.
“What are you, Jessica?” I asked, wanting to see what she would say, now that I know she comes from a pack and is likely a werewolf. She frowned at my question, she had the same confused look, as the first time that I asked it.
“I’m human.” She replied, while watching me carefully, waiting for my next words.
“Still playing the same game, eh?” I said with a dry chuckle, as I stood from the chair. She got up as well and followed me, as I walked to the door.
“It’s the truth.” She said, in a soft voice.
“If you’re not going to give me any helpful information, I’ll be leaving.” I said, as I reached the door. I paused before walking out and glanced back at Jessica.
She had turned her back to me and was heading towards the bed. Her hair was up in a messy bun and I saw a tattoo on the back of her neck, right bellow her hairline and above the silver collar.
“What’s that?” I asked, while pointing at her neck.
“What’s what?” She replied, confused.
“The tattoo on the back of your neck.” I asked and walked towards her, like a man on a mission. Her hands darted up and covered the tattoo, as her heart beat sped up. She took a few steps backwards, trying to get away from me, until her back hit the wall and she couldn’t go any further.
I grabbed her arms and spun her around, she gasped in shock at the actions. I brought my fingers up and ran them gently across the tattoo. It was a word, but it wasn’t written in English, I couldn’t tell what language it was in. A shiver ran down her spine at my touch and I felt almost like an electric current, was running through my hand at the contact.
My wolf was excited to me touching her, it was distracting, I almost forgot what I was doing.
“What does it mean.” I asked, in a deep voice.
“I don’t know.” She replied softly, I could feel how heavy she was breathing, while I held her in place.
I let out a frustrated sigh, as I let go of her and headed for the door.
“Someone will be by, with you dinner later.” I told her. She still hadn’t turned around, her face was almost against the wall. She didn’t reply.
I opened the door and left the room, locking it behind me.
I left feeling frustrated, I felt like I had more questions than answers, after my talk with Jessica.
How am I going to get the answers that I need?
