The Mysterious Luna
Chapter 27

Jessica POV

I didn’t see Alpha Colton for the rest of the day, I think he was avoiding me. I didn’t sleep well that night, I couldn’t seem to get him out of my head. I will have to apologize when I see him. I hope, I didn’t cause a strain in his relationship with Heather.

Josh came to my room earlier in the morning and told me that the witch was coming today. He told me to be in Alpha Colton’s office at 10:00am.

I was a little disappointed that Josh came to tell me, instead of Alpha Colton. I really wanted to talk with him.

I was getting nervous for two reasons. The first, I wasn’t sure how Alpha Colton would act around me, after the k**s. And second, I wonder what the witch will have to say, about the spell.

It was getting close to 10:00am, so I made my way down to Alpha Colton’s office. When I reached the door, I knocked.

“Come in” I heard, before I opened the door. My heart was beating fast, I was really anxious to see him.

Alpha Colton was seated at his desk and he was going over documents. When I walked in, he lifted his eyes and they met with mine. He stared at me for a few moments, I couldn’t quite make out the emotions within his eyes, before he cleared his throat and spoke.

“Did you sleep well, Jessica?” He asked, in a husky voice.

“I did, thank you.” I replied softly.

“Umm… About yesterday, I wanted to apolog…” Alpha Colton started to apologize and I cut him off.

“No need to apologize, I should of never kissed you. I hope I didn’t cause problems for you and Heather.” I blurted out nervously.

He just watched me for a moment, I could see disappointment in his eyes and it confused me. Why would he be disappointed?

“Heather isn’t my girlfriend. She’s going to be my chosen mate and the Luna of this pack, since I never found my fated mate.” Alpha Colton said and I was even more confused.

“What’s a chosen or fated mate? Also what’s a Luna?” I asked curiously.

“All werewolves are gifted a mate by the moon goddess, humans call them soulmates. They are suppose to be the other half of your soul. Once you meet your fated mate, that person completes you. When you turn 19, you’re able to sense your mate for the first time and it’s suppose to be a really intense feeling. I never found mine and it’s been 5 years.” He said and paused before continuing.

“A pack needs a Luna, she’s like a mother figure to them. They rely on her, to help the Alpha be a strong leader. Basically, a pack is stronger when their Alpha has a Luna by his side. For that reason, I’ve decided to take Heather as a chosen mate, she will become the Luna of this pack. We aren’t in a romantic relationship, it’s more of a business deal.” He said and let out a frustrated sigh, when he was done.

I couldn’t believe what he was saying, he’s basically settling for her, in the best interest of his pack. I mean, it’s honourable, but sad.

“Wow, that’s a lot of pressure on your shoulders. What happens, if you do meet your fated mate one day and you’re already married to Heather?” I couldn’t help but ask the question.

He stared at me intensely for a moment, like he was struggling with my question. I saw his jaw clenched and unclench several times, before he finally spoke.

“I would have to reject her.” He said, in a serious tone, but I could see disappointment and sadness in his eyes.

“That’s so sad. I hope you don’t end up regretting your decision, especially if you’re not in love with Heather.” I replied. I couldn’t help the words that came out of my mouth. Something in my gut, told me that he was making a big mistake. He seemed surprised at my words and was watching me with a curious look.

Our conversation was interrupted, by a knock at the door. Alpha Colton’s eyes remained locked on me, like he wasn’t done trying to read my thought.

“Come in” he said and the door opened.

Josh walked in, followed by a woman. She looked around 40, with brown hair and brown eyes. She had glasses on and wore a purple blouse and black pants.

She had a big smile on her face, when she walked into the room, until her eyes met mine. Her smiled dropped and her face paled. She looked like she had just seen a ghost.

She was making me uncomfortable, with the way she was staring at me. She didn’t say anything for the longest time. Alpha Colton, cleared his throat, clearly trying to snap her out of the trance, that she was in.

“Gloria, this is Jessica. The woman I spoke to you about.” Alpha Colton said, while motioning towards me with his hand.

Gloria shook her head several times, before speaking.

“I’m sorry Jessica, it’s nice to meet you.” Gloria said and extended her hand to shake mine. She continued to look at me, with disbelief in her eyes.

“It’s nice to meet you as well.” I said nervously, as she continued to stare.

“I’m sorry for staring. It’s just, you’re the spitting image of someone I once knew. You have to be closely related to her.” Gloria said, with a small smile.

“Who is that?” Alpha Colton asked curiously.

“The witch I told you about last time, Bethany. The resemblance is so similar, that Jessica is likely her daughter, or niece.” Gloria replied and I was completely shocked by her words. Am I related to a witch? Does that mean I’m not a werewolf, but instead a witch?

“So she’s witch, not a werewolf?” Alpha Colton asked the question that I was thinking.

“Potentially, but this is where it gets complicated. I did some digging after we spoke last time, since I was curious if Beth had survived the m******e. I got in touch with a few of my witch friends and was told that Beth did survive. She found her mate shortly after and he is a werewolf. She moved to his pack to be with him. If Jessica is Beth’s daughter, she’s likely a rare hybrid. That type of hybrid offspring, will develop one of their parents abilities. They’ll either be a werewolf or a witch, it’s unheard of to possess both.” Gloria explained.

“Do you know which pack Beth moved to?” Alpha Colton asked. I was so shocked by everything that was being said, that I remained quiet. I was thankful, that Alpha Colton was asking so many questions.

“Cold, something.” Gloria said, she looked like she was thinking hard to remember the name.

“Cold Stone Pack?” Alpha Colton asked.

“Yes, that’s the one.” Gloria replied, with a satisfied smile.

I glanced between Josh and Alpha Colton and they looked to be having a private conversation, through the mind-link. I wonder what that pack name means to them?

“Can I have a look at the spell?” Gloria asked me.

“Sure.” I replied softy, while turning around and moving my hair out of the way.

“Hmmm… yes, that’s definitely one of Beth’s spells.” She said, while running her finger over the tattoo.

I felt gentle volts of electricity run through my body, as she touched it.

“Is there anything you can do to break the spell?” Josh asked curiously.

“I can try, but this is powerful magic, mine doesn’t compare.” Gloria said, as she shook her head.

“Have a seat Jessica.” Gloria instructed, while pointing to the chair in front of her. I complied and sat down.

She put one of her hands over the tattoo and started to chant in a language that I didn’t understand. Nothing happened right away, but after a few minutes, the lights in the room started to flicker.

All of a sudden, I felt a strong bolt of electricity run through my body and Gloria was thrown into the wall across the room. I stood up rapidly, completed shocked by what just happened.

“Are you ok?” Josh’s asked, with concern in his voice, as he ran over to Gloria and helped her up from the ground.

“Yes, I’m ok. Thank you.” Gloria replied, while rubbing the back of her head, where it hit the wall.

“Did it work?” Alpha Colton asked curiously.

“I’m not sure, I ran into a block. Do you remember anything from before the coma, Jessica?” Gloria asked, with furrowed eyebrows.

I started to think back, when all of a sudden, I got a glimpse of Alpha Ryan’s face. I was in a house that I didn’t recognize with him. He was talking, but I couldn’t hear what he was saying, almost like someone had pressed mute.

“I think so, but I can’t quit make it out. I see a face and a strange house, but his voice is muted. I don’t know what he’s saying.” I replied, while trying to remember more.

“That’s what I thought. I’m not able to break the spell, but I cracked it. Jessica might get little glimpses here and there, about her past. She won’t always understand them, it will be little puzzle pieces that you have to put together, in order to understand them.” Gloria said, in a disappointed tone.

I glanced over at Alpha Colton and I noticed him inhaling deeply. What the hell is he doing?

“You smell different.” Alpha Colton said, as he stalked towards me. My eyes flew wide open, when I noticed his eyes had turned pitch black. He approached like a predator stalking his pray. My heart was beating fast and a mixture of emotions were ran through me. I was nervous and scared, but at the same time, I was excited to have him so close to me.

He lowered his face, into the crook of my neck and inhaled deeply. I felt his nose brush along my skin and a chill ran down my spine. I felt a weird static sensation, where he touched me.

“You smell good.” He growled out, without removing his face from my neck. Goosebumps erupted along my skin, as I felt his warm breath fanning my skin. I stood there quietly and frozen in place. I mean, what am I suppose to say to that?

“What do you smell, Alpha?” Gloria asked curiously and Alpha Colton finally lifted his head from my neck.

“It’s a very mild change, but I can smell that she’s a werewolf. I can also pickup, light notes of chocolate and lavender in her scent.” Alpha Colton replied, while moving back to the other side of his desk. He had a confused expression on his face and I could tell he was thinking about something.

“Interesting. So if my suspicion is right, you are Beth’s daughter and you inherited your fathers werewolf abilities.” Gloria said.

I could see Josh inhaling the air, trying to pickup my scent. He had a confused expression on his face.

“I don’t smell anything different.” Josh said, while getting closer to me.

When he stood in front of me, he leaned down to get a better smell. That’s when I heard a low growl come from Alpha Colton. Josh immediately jumped back and threw his hands up in surrender. What the hell was that about?

“Sorry Alpha, I guess I’ll just take your word for it, that she smells different.” Josh said, with a light chuckle, while shaking his head.

“Do you have anymore questions for me?” Gloria asked. I instantly stopped thinking about the growl and was brought back to my current situation.

“What do I do now?” I asked in a low voice.

“You need to try and replace Beth, if she’s still alive. She’s the only one that can break the spell. I’m sorry hun.” She said in a soft tone, I could see the pity in her eyes.

“Thank you for coming Gloria.” Alpha Colton said, with a nod.

“You’re welcome. If I hear anything, I’ll be in touch and if you have anymore questions, don’t hesitate to call.” Gloria replied, with a soft smile.

“Come, I’ll show you out.” Josh said and I watched as he left the room with Gloria.

I let out a frustrated sigh, when I was alone with Alpha Colton. I have so many questions, that no one seems to be able to answer.
