The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 31
Alpha Colton POV
Fear coursed through me, when Josh mind-linked about the rogues. I really hope he can protect the girls, until I get there.
Hector, was running faster then he ever had. When we finally arrived there was one rogue still alive and I wasted no time ripping his throat out, killing him on the spot.
Jess was on the ground unconscious. Panic set in as I approached her. Goddess, please let her be ok.
Samantha was holding a piece of her torn shirt over Jessica’s wound, try and stop the bleeding. She was sobbing heavily, clearly concerned for her friend.
I bent down and could tell that she was breathing and instantly let out a sigh of relief.
I looked around and saw Josh on the ground. He had a small wound on his back, but other than that he appeared uninjured. He was dragging himself on the ground, towards one of the dead rogues, a female.
I heard him asked out loud. ‘why did you make me do it?’ I think it’s safe to say, that she was his mate. I watched as he laid next to her and held her hand in his. Tears were running down his cheeks and my heart broke for my friend. Seeing him in this state was really hard, especially since he’s probably the most cheerful guy you’d ever meet.
I told him, that I was bringing Jess to the hospital and would bring Sam with me. He didn’t respond, I knew he just needed time with his mate. Hopefully, he can replace closure. He did what he had to do, he saved both Jess and Sam.
I picked Jess up bridal style and started to make my way back to the pack house. Sam walked beside me, but she didn’t say anything. I knew she saw things that she shouldn’t of. I’m surprise at how quiet and calm she’s being, considering the circumstances.
I had mind-linked the doctor on my way, so when we arrived, they were expecting us.
I laid Jess down on a stretcher and the doctors rolled the bed down the hall, towards one of the surgery room. I was able to see her wound better, after I put her down. It looked pretty deep and she had lost quite a bit of b***d. Goddess, please let be ok. I silently prayed, while pacing around the waiting room.
Sam had sunken to the floor along a wall and was sitting against it, with her arms wrapped around her legs. She was no longer crying, but the concern on her face was clear.
“What were those things?” Sam asked in a low voice, while looking straight ahead. There was no point in lying. She knew what she saw and she’s way to smart for me to make her second guess, her own eyes.
“Werewolves” I replied and watched her carefully for a reaction. She glanced over at me and I could see a whirlwind of emotions in her eyes, fear, curiosity, concern and a little bit of excitement.
It was surprising, that she wasn’t running away or screaming bloody murder. She seemed to be taking it better than I thought.
“Are you one of them?” She asked, with a curious frown. I simply nodded my head.
“And Josh?” She asked and I nodded again.
“Those three that attacked us. What did they want?” She asked, with concern in her voice.
“They are called rogues. They don’t belong to a pack, like we do. Usually, because they’ve been kicked out for committing a crime, or they left because they don’t like structure and rules. The majority of the time, they are bad news and dangerous.” I said, with my own frown.
I felt it was a little strange that there were 3 rogues, that attacked together. I’ll have to talk with Josh. I wish we had captured one alive for questioning. I wonder what they were after.I hope they didn’t have anything to do with Alpha Ryan.
“Is Josh ok?” Sam asked and I could see the concern in her eyes.
“Yes, he just needs some time to himself. He’ll come around when he’s ready.” I replied in serious tone.
“That women, werewolf, whatever you call yourselves. She meant something to him, didn’t she?” Sam asked, with a curious look on her face.
“Yes.” Is all I replied. It’s not my place to tell her everything. Josh can chose, if he wants her to know or not.
I was happy that she didn’t push the subject any further.
I was brought out of my thoughts, when the door opened and the doctor entered the room. He stopped a few feet away from us, before speaking.
“She’s going to be fine. The wounds were deep, but thanks to her werewolf genes, her healing has already started to take over. She should wake up in a few hours.” The doctor said. Sam gasped, when she heard the doctor. I knew she would be shocked, when she found out that her closest friend, was also a werewolf.
“Thank you doctor. Can we see her?” I asked.
“Of course, we will be keeping her overnight for observation, but there’s nothing further that we can do for her. She just needs time for her body to heal it’s self.” He replied, before leaving us in the hall and walking towards his office.
“She’s a werewolf to? How did I not know?” Sam asked, while deep in thought. Probably searching for any clue, that she could of missed.
“Yes, but she didn’t know she was either, until she was attacked. The night we brought you guys here, was when she found out.” I replied, with a frown.
“So, you guys have magical powers too?” She asked curiously and I immediately frowned. I mean, we’re stronger and have advanced abilities, but we aren’t magical.
“No magic, just advanced abilities, like strength, hearing and scent.” I replied.
“Then how was Jess able to throw a giant wolf 10 feet away, without using her hands?” Sam asked curiously and I frown at her question. Does Jess have magical abilities, on top of being a werewolf?
“Honestly, I’m not sure. We’ll have to talk with Jess, when she wakes up and see what she remembers.” I replied.
We walked together towards Jess’s room, in silence. Sam was still trying to process all the information, she received. She really seemed to be taking it well, all things considered. I know her and Josh have grown close to one another over the past few days. He’ll be able to do a better job at explaining everything and comforting her.
When we got inside, my heart sunk when I saw Jessica lying on the hospital bed in a gown, with an IV attached to her hand. She was still unconscious.
It gave me a flashback, to the first time I ever saw her. It was in this exact room and she was laying in the same unconscious position. Goddess, how I’ve screwed up, I thought to myself.
I sat beside her in a chair, before bringing my hand up to her face and brushing a strand of hair away. She shivered when I touched her and I swear I could feel a static sensation in my finger. It was like my finger was now glued to her, I didn’t want to let go. I continued to trail my finger, along her cheek and over her plump red lips.
“You like her don’t you?” Sam asked. I glanced over my shoulder and found her watching me form the door. She was leaning up against the wall right next to it and she had on eyebrow raised. I didn’t know what to say. She was right, but how do I explain how I feel.
“I’m going to say this once. She’s the most amazing woman I’ve ever met and if you don’t act soon, you’re going to lose your chance. All because you were to stubborn to follow your heart and gut. Deny it all you want, but I’ve seen the intense chemistry between you two. I would go as far as saying, you guys could be soulmates.” Sam said, in a serious tone. It was the first time, I had heard her being serious and her words stung. She doesn’t even know what a mate is, yet thinks that Jessica and I could be soulmates. Is she right?
I know I’ve grown feelings for Jessica and I love being around her. When she kissed me, it was the best feeling in the world and I never wanted it to end. When she was in danger, I was practically in full panic mode. I had never felt that kind of fear before.
I think Josh and Sam are right, I do like Jess. I’m not certain about her being my mate. I guess, when I met my mate, I was expecting some obvious signs, I never got any real drastic signs with Jess, so it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the idea.
One thing that I’ve decided, even if Jess doesn’t end up being my mate, is that I need to send Heather home. It’s not fair for her, especially since I have no time or interest in her. Honestly, It’s a relief. The thought of spending the rest of my life with her, was scary and very unappealing. I have no romantic feeling for her, yet I know she does. Sending her home, is going to be the best for everyone.
I never answered Sam, I just thought over her words and continued to stroke Jess’s cheek with my finger.
Now the question is, do I tell Jess how I feel? Or let things progress and see what happens? I don’t even know what she thinks about me. Maybe she’s not interested.
I was brought out of my thoughts, when felt Jess start to stir awake.
Her eyes fluttered open and locked with mine. She let out a sigh and smiled at me. I could see the relief in her eyes.
“Where am I?” She asked softly, while looking around.
“The hospital, you’re going to be ok.” I replied with a small smile.
“Oh my god, you’re awake, I was worried sick. Why the hell didn’t you tell me, that you were a werewolf?! And that these guys are too. That’s so cool and here I am just a boring old Human, how lame.” Sam said with a pout, while hugging Jess. Jess let out a small chuckle, at her friends words.
It was music to my ears, I love the sound of her angelic sweat voice. I’m so happy she’s ok.
