The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 61
Alpha Colton POV
I started to stir awake. My head was pounding and the loud and annoying beeping sound of a heart monitor, wasn’t helping the headache. I slowly opened my eyes, as they adjusted to the bright lights that beamed down on me.
As the haze lifted, my last memories returned. I remembered Alpha Philip’s wolf, stalking towards to me during the fight, he was about to end my life. Am I dead, I wondered? No I can’t be, I wouldn’t have this killer headache if I was already dead.
I looked around the room and realized that I was in the hospital on my territory. I was alone in an examination room. How the hell did I get here? I should be dead, how is this possible? I need answers. I tried to use my mind-link to call Josh, but couldn’t get through. Panic coursed through me, what happened to him and the rest of my men?
I abruptly sat up, causing my vision to blur and my head to spin. Ok, maybe I moved a little to quickly. I remained seated on the bed, until everything returned to normal.
There were round stickers attached to my chest, with wires that lead to the heart monitor. I ripped them off, causing the beeping of the monitor to speed up. I g*****d in annoyance, before also ripping out the IV attached to my hand.
My eyes went to the door, when it flew open. The doctor stood there with a concerned look on his face, until he saw me and let out a relieved breath.
“Alpha, thank goddess you’re awake.” The doctor said, while approaching the bed.
“Where’s Josh? What happened?” I asked, while struggling to stand up.
“No Alpha, you need to lay back down. Your still recovering.” The doctor ordered, while trying to help me back onto the bed. I wasn’t going to listen, I needed answers and I was irritated that he didn’t give them to me right away.
“Answer me.” I ordered and his body stiffened at the command.
“You guys were attacked at the Cold Stone Pack. Jessica got to you and Josh before Alpha Philip’s and his men could kill you. She teleported the two of you here, just in time. You both were on the brink of death, Alpha, your Luna saved you.” He explained and his voice held a hint of fondness when he said the word, Luna.
What the hell was he talking about, teleported us here? How did Jess get to the Cold Stone Pack after I was challenged? None of this makes sense. Where is she now?
“You’re probably wonder where your mate is? She’s holding a meeting with the pack. Everyone’s been on edge and worried that Alpha Philip will attack again, so she wanted to reassure them.” The doctor said, as if he could read my mind.
“Where?” I asked pointedly.
“Out front of the pack house. You’re one lucky man, Alpha. She’s incredible, a natural leader.” The doctor said and I couldn’t stop the possessive growl from leaving my chest.
“Sorry, Alpha. I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just happy our Luna is strong and capable. Our pack will be stronger with her leading by your side.” He said nervously, with his hands up in surrender.
“No, I’m sorry Doctor. I’m just a little on edge and confused by everything. Where’s Josh?” I asked, while rubbing the back of my head, feeling a little embarrassed by my behaviour.
“I understand, Alpha. Josh was in worst shape when you first arrived, but he’s healing well now. He should be waking up at any point, he’s in the room next door. His mate, Sam, she’s human right?” The doctor asked, with a curious frown.
“Yes, why?” I asked, wondering why he would be asking me that.
“Oh, I was just wondering. She growls at me every time I touch her mate and it’s kind of freaking me out.” He said, while shaking his head and chuckling lightly. I also chuckled, I’ve heard her try to growl before and she sounds more like a rabid chihuahua, than a wolf.
“I need to go replace my mate.” I said, while grabbing the pair of sweat pants that sat on the chair. I put them on before grabbing the jacket that was also there and slipping it over the hospital gown.
My body felt heavy and my legs were shaking. Every step I took, felt like I was going to fall over. The doctor saw how much I was struggling and came beside me, to help support my body.
“Alpha, you really should be resting.” He said, in a disapproving tone.
“No. I need to see my mate.” I replied sternly and he didn’t argue any further. He put my arm around his shoulder and helped me walk out of the hospital.
As we turned the corner, the front of the pack house came into sight. I could see a large crowd standing by the steps and at the top of the steps stood my mate, Kyle, Beth and is that Alpha Peter holding Beth’s hand? I frowned, wondering what he was doing here?
It didn’t look like the meeting had started yet and I was curious to hear what Jess had to say.
“Stop.” I said in a low voice. The doctor immediately stopped and gave me a confused look.
“I want to hear what she has to say.” I said and he nodded in understanding.
I leaned up against the building for support, far enough from the crowd, so that no one could sense my presence. I was anxious all of a sudden and still confused with everything that happened. How did Jess save me? She’s always so shy and timid, I’m actually surprised to see her standing in front of such a large crowd ready to speak. She was standing tall, with her chin held high. Her posture radiated with confidence and power. I’m not going to lie, it was a complete turn on.
I watched, as Kyle handed Jess the mic and she turned towards the crowd to address them.
“I know I haven’t met everyone yet, but as you may have heard, I’m Alpha Colton’s mate and your soon to be Luna. My name is, Jessica.” She introduced herself and my heart skipped a beat.
She just accepted me as her mate in front of the entire pack. It was taking everything in me, not to go and scoop her up in my arms. I felt both excited and extremely happy, hearing her words.
I listened to her speech and felt so much pride coursing through my body. Who is this woman? I’ve never heard her sound so confident. The doctor was right, she’s a natural leader. The crowd was cheering her on at the end and I could hear the passion in their voices. They’ve already accepted her as their Luna and I couldn’t be happier.
As she was scanning the crowd, her eyes landed on me and they widened in shock. She looked excited, but also nervous and concerned. I frowned slightly, why would she be concerned?
When the crowd saw her shocked expression, they followed her gaze and I heard several gasps when they noticed me.
I pushed myself off the wall. The doctor went to grab my arm so he could help me stand, but I motioned for him not to. I wanted my pack see that I was ok.
I started walking toward Jess and the crowd parted down the middle, clearing a path for me.
I kept my eyes locked with hers, as I slowly made my way forward. Her breathing became rapid, as I got closer.
I climbed the stairs slowly, my body was protesting. I knew I shouldn’t be pushing myself so much, but I had to, for my pack and for my mate.
When I got to the top of the steps, I stood in front of Jess for a moment, staring down at her. Her eyes were full of emotions and I could see the anticipation building. She was waiting for me to do or say something. I saw her eyes flicker down to my lips, causing a rush of desire to course through my body.
I lowered my lips to meet hers and kissed her passionately. She froze for a second, but quickly relaxed and melted into me. I wrapped my arms around her body and deepened the k**s. The crowd was going wild, cheering and whistling at us.
I didn’t want to let her go, but I knew I had business to take care of, so I pulled away and took the mic from her hand. She smiled up at me, as I saw a relieved tear run down her cheek. The crowd went silent, as they waiting to hear what I had to say. I kept my eyes on Jess while I spoke, wanting to show how much I supported her.
“You heard your Luna, Alpha Philip’s doesn’t stand a chance against us!” I shouted into the mic and the crowd once again erupted.
She had a grateful smile on her face, as I took her hand in my and intertwined our fingers. I waited for the crowd to settle before speaking again.
“Now, if you’ll excuse us, I need to get an update on what I’ve missed over the past few days.” I announced and glanced over the crowd.
“Let’s go.” I said to Jess and squeezed her hand gently, before tugging her inside the pack house.
I handed Kyle the mic, as we passed by him.
“Alpha, glad to see you’re awake.” Kyle said, while bowing his head.
“Thanks. Give us a few minutes alone. I’ll come replace you in a bit.” I replied and he nodded.
We stopped in front of Beth and Alpha Peter, who were in fact holding hands. I couldn’t help but frown curiously at the action, what the hell happened in three days?
“Alpha Colton, I hope you don’t mind I’ve been staying here since the attack. Turns out, Beth is my second chance mate.” Alpha Peter said proudly and my eyes widened in shock.
“Wow, I sure missed a lot, didn’t I? Congratulations to the both of you.” I replied, while glancing between the two of them. I could see how happy they both looked, a second chance mate is rare, they both deserve this.
“Thank you.” Beth replied for the both of them and I nodded before continuing inside the pack house, dragging my mate along with me.
We were walking down the hall, when I lost my balance and almost fell. Jess grabbed ahold of me and I could see the concern on her face.
“Why are you out of the hospital? You’re still healing.” She scolded, while pulling my arm over her shoulder, so she could help carry my weight.
“I’m fine, I just need you by my side and I’ll be back to normal in no time.” I said with a grin and she blushed.
We reached our room and I opened the door. Jess helped me over to the bed and I laid down on it. I let out sigh, I knew my body needed a break.
“Come here, LUNA.” I ordered and emphasized the word, Luna. She blushed a few shades darker, but complied and sat down next to me.
“That’s not close enough.” I said, while patting my chest with my hands.
“I don’t want to hurt you. You’re still healing.” She replied and I could hear the concern in her tone. I chuckled lightly.
“Are we about to have our first fight?” I teased and reached over to grab ahold of her h**s, before pulling her on top of me. She yelped at the sudden action, but it quickly turned into laughter. She laid down on top of me, her head resting on my chest and her legs straddling my waist.
Goddess, I missed this woman. She’s beautiful, strong, intelligent, kind and an absolute perfect Luna. I can’t wait to fully make her mine.
