The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 72
Jessica POV
I was in Colton’s office with my mother, Josh and Kyle. We had a map spread across the desk and were trying to think of areas that needed to be searched.
“I think we should start searching this area.” Josh suggested, while pointing to a forested area around where Alpha Philip’s territory was located.
“It’s like looking for a needle in a hay stack. He could be anywhere.” My mother sighed in frustration.
Alpha Peter and his men, had just left our territory to go and search Alpha Philip’s pack land to make sure Colton wasn’t being held there. He was also going to take control of the remaining pack members until the situation was under control. There should only be children, woman and elder that remain on the territory, so there shouldn’t be any resistance.
I was distracted when I heard the lightest whisper in my head. I could barely make out what was being said.
‘Love…not dead…Gretch…home…hear me’ It was definitely Colton’s voice, but it was so low that I could only pickup a few words. I was frowning, trying to piece together what he was trying to tell me.
“What is it? You looked focused on something.” My mother asked, with a concerned frown.
“Colton, I think I can hear him.” I replied.
I was trying to get more out of him, but he wasn’t responding to my questions.
“What did he say?” Josh asked, with a hopeful tone.
“His voice was so low that I couldn’t hear him clearly. I only picked up a few words. ‘Love…not dead…Gretch…home…hear me.’ That’s all I got.” I replied with a frustrated sigh.
“At least we know he’s still alive.” Kyle said.
“Gretchen Home…” My mother mumbled to herself, while deep in thought.
“What are you thinking, mother?” I asked, hoping she had an idea of what that would mean.
“I’m not sure, but the first thing that came to mind is her childhood home. We lived next door to each other when we grew up. After the war against witches, the whole area was destroyed and abandoned. It’s certainly somewhere to go, where no one would ever think to look.” My mother replied.
“I think we should start there.” I said and my mother nodded.
“How far is it from here?” Josh asked.
“Approximately an hour.” My mother replied.
“Get a dozen warriors ready. We’re heading out right away.” I instructed Kyle.
“Yes, Luna.” Kyle replied, before leaving the office.
“When you hear from Peter, let him know where we’re going. He can join us with his men, once he’s done on Alpha Philip’s old territory.” My mother instructed Josh.
“I want to come with you guys.” Josh replied with a concerned frown.
“No, I need you and Kyle to stay here and deal with the aftermath of the battle. We’ll be fine with a dozen warriors.” I said sternly, leaving no room for argument. Josh didn’t look happy, but he didn’t argue.
“Let’s go meet the warriors out front.” I said and my mother nodded her head
We arrived out front and the warriors were waiting and ready to go.
My mother pulled out a map and explained the layout of the house, as well as the surrounding area. She wasn’t sure if anything has changed, since she hasn’t been back there in over 20 years. She tried to provided as much detail as she could.
“Listen up!” I announced and the warriors went silent to hear what I had to say.
“We’ll teleport everyone to Beth’s childhood home, it’s close enough to Gretchen’s. Once there, we’ll move in on foot and surround the house. They can’t know we’re coming or they might do something to Alpha Colton. We need the element of surprise on our side.” I instructed.
“Yes Luna.” The warriors replied in unison.
Within minutes, the warriors were gathered around my mother and I and everyone including myself, touched a part of my mother’s body. She had to teleport us all, since I didn’t know the area.
It didn’t take long before we all stood inside a small rundown living room. You could tell the house hadn’t been lived in for a long time. The windows were broken, the furniture was covered in a thick layer of dust, the roof was caved in and it was infested with mice.
“Her house is the one to the North.” My mother whispered, as we made our way outside.
It was dark out, with only the moon lighting the sky. It was eerily silent and I couldn’t help the shiver that ran down my spine.
I sent half the warriors are the back, while the remainder followed us towards the front.
The house was a two story, small wooden building. The outside was painted blue and it was in the same shape as my mother’s childhood home. The windows were busted and the roof was almost non existent.
As we got close, I notice the flicker of a light inside one of the windows. Almost like a candle flicker, or a small fire.
“You see that.” I whispered to my mother.
“Ya, looks like someone’s home.” My mother replied.
My heart beat quickened the closer we got. The light inside gave me hope that this might be where she’s keeping Colton.
When we reached the front door, I could hear Gretchen’s voice, chanting in a foreign language. I looked at my mother to see if she knew what Gretchen was doing and I saw a flash of fear cross her features, before she quickly swung the door open and stormed inside.
I followed her in and was shocked at the sight in front of me.
Colton was unconscious on a wooden chair, with Heather straddling his lap. They were both fully dressed but the sight caused my b***d to boil. Gretchen was standing behind him with her hands on his shoulders. Her eyes were glowing green and she was still chanting in a foreign language. I could feel the power of magic in the room.
“Oh hell no!” My mother shouted, causing both Heather and Gretchen to turn their attention towards us. Gretchen’s eyes continued to glow, as they locked with my mother’s.
I watched my mother raise her hands, before Gretchen was thrown backwards into the wall. There was a massive hole where she hit. Her body fell to the ground and her eyes stopped glowing.
Once the shock wore off and I realized what was happened, anger and jealousy coursed through me. That b***h is sitting on what’s mine.
I stormed towards Heather, as she tried to stand from Colton’s lap.
“What the f**k are you doing he…” She started to sneer, but before she could finish, I grabbed a fist full of her hair and yanked her off his lap. She yelped in pain, as I threw her on the ground.
“Mine!” I gritted out angrily, as I jumped on top of her and started to punch her repeatedly in the face. B***d was flowing out of her nose and mouth.
Within a minute she shifted into her sandy coloured wolf and I also shifted. We were around the same size even though she was of Alpha bloodline, she certainly didn’t look it. My aura was dominating hers.
She snarled and snapped her teeth in my direction, but I could smell her fear. I stood calmly waiting for her to make the first move. It didn’t take long before she lunged at me. I sidestepped her attack, but bit down on her tail before flinging her against a wall. A whimper left her lips, as her body went right through it and landed in the next room.
I stalked towards her like a predator, while she tried to get up off the ground. I was salivating with the desire to make her bleed.
As soon as she stood backup, I jumped on her back and bit down on her shoulder. She started to buck in an attempt to throw me off, but she couldn’t. I was holding on like my life depended on it and the more she moved, the harder I bit down.
Before I knew what was happening, she stopped struggling and she stilled below me. I looked down and realized that she had shifted back into her human form and was submitting to me. I growled in frustration.
I felt a surge of anger rush through me, she’s just as much of a coward as her father. Instead of fighting she’s submitting, knowing I can’t kill her now. It was taking everything in me not to rip her stupid throat out.
I let go of her shoulder and backed up growling, while keeping my eyes locked on her. I was secretly praying for her to try something, so I could end her life. I waited several minutes, but she just laid there in a ball, whimpering in pain. I didn’t feel one bit bad for her.
When I felt confident that she wasn’t going to move, I shifted into my human form. One of the warriors handed me a pair of silver cuffs and I wasted no time slapping them on her wrists.
“I hope you’re ready to spend the rest of your life in a dark, dingy cell.” I taunted, while cuffing her.
“f**k you!” She spat out.
“Get her out of here.” I instructed one of the warriors, as I made my way back into the other room.
I walked into the living room, my mother was straddling Gretchen on the ground, who was still struggling. Before I could do anything, my mother pulled out a dagger from her back pocket and stabbed it through Gretchen’s heart. A bright light flashed through the room, before everything went dark, including the fire.
“You’ll never hurt my family again!” My mother shouted, as Gretchen’s body went still under her. I could see the tears running down my mother’s cheeks, as she stood from the ground.
“Are you ok?” I asked, as I ran towards her.
“I’m good, but I wish she didn’t force my hand.” My mother replied with a sad look on her face, before I wrapped my arms around her in a tight hug.
“You did what you had to do.” I said, while pulling away from her and she nodded.
I turned around to replace some of the warriors helping Colton, who was still unconscious.
My breath caught in my throat, as I suddenly remembered his unconscious state. I quickly ran over to where he was and knelt down in front of him.
“Is he ok?” I asked one of the warriors, while checking his pulse.
“He’ll be fine. Gretchen was trying to wipe his memory like I did to you, but we got here in time.” My mother replied before the warriors could. I let out a relieved sigh, while brushing my fingers along his cheek.
Thank goddess we got here in time. Who knows what would of happened if we hadn’t.
