Chapter 79

Alpha Colton POV

I didn’t understand what was going on with Jess. She was acting funny. She seemed highly emotional and when I tried to hand her that wine glass, she almost vomited at the sight.

I decided to get her into bed. Maybe she just needed rest. She didn’t argue, she looked completely exhausted and quickly climbed in, before settling down.

I was lying in bed with her curled up against my chest. I could hear her soft snores, letting me know that she had finally fallen asleep.

I couldn’t sleep, her odd behaviour wasn’t sitting well with me. My wolf was on edge and also wanted to make sure our mate was ok.

All of a sudden, almost like someone flicked a switch on in my head, I had an idea what was happening. I bet Jess is pregnant! My wolf started howling at the idea and I’m not going to lie, I was resisting the urge to wake her up and have her take a pregnancy test.

I moved her arm off my chest and gently slid out of bed without waking her up. A soft whimper left her lips at the loss of contact. I quickly grabbed one of my shirts and slipped it over one of the pillows, before nuzzling it against her. Just like I expected, she buried her face in it and clung to it for dear life.

I stood beside the bed for a few minutes, just admiring my sleeping beauty. I felt overwhelmed with emotions, the main ones being, excited and love. I wasn’t even sure if she was pregnant yet, but I was already replaceing myself attached the possibly of a pup growing in her belly.

I wrote a note on a piece of paper and left it on the bedside table. I didn’t want her to get worried if she suddenly woke up and couldn’t replace me.

I was like a man on a mission. I quickly got dressed and quietly left the room. I walked out of the building and asked for the valet attendant to fetch my car.

Five minutes later, my car pulled up in the round about and stopped by the entrance of the building.

I thanked the attendant, before getting in and driving to the nearest pharmacy in the City.

I knew exactly what I was needed to get, a dozen pregnancy tests. Since we were away for a few days, I didn’t want to wait for Jess to see the doctor when we got home. For now, a pregnancy test would have to do.

I selected two tests from each brand and put them in a basket. I also decided to load up on chocolate and candy incase she actually was pregnant. That’s what women want when their hormones are out of control, right? Just to be on the safe side, I also grabbed a couple bags of chips and a jar of pickles. Maybe it’s too early for cravings, but either way, I want to make sure she has everything she wants.

Once my basket was loaded to the brim with pregnancy tests and junk food, I made my way to the till to pay. The employee gave me a knowing smile, as she scanned all the items. When I was done paying, she wished me luck. I couldn’t help but smile back and thank her. I really hope Jess is pregnant, that would be the best news ever.

I got back in the car and drove back to the resort. After leaving the car keys with the valet, I made my way back to the room.

I found Jess curled up in the exact same position that I had left her in. I put the bags down on the table and stripped out of my clothes.

I was once against resisting the urge to wake her up and take the tests.

I gently slipped back into bed, Jess immediately released the pillow and sprawl her arms and legs across my body. I wrapped my arms around her waist and held her tightly against my chest.

I laid there unable to sleep, just thinking of the possibility that Jess was pregnant. I had the biggest smile and I’m pretty sure it was permanently etched on my face.

Several hours later, we were laying in the exact same position. I hadn’t slept a wink, but it didn’t matter, I way beaming with excitement. Finally I started to feel Jess stirring awake.

I watched her stretch her arms and let out a yawn. Her eyes slowly started to fluttered open, before they locked with mine.

“Good morning, have you been awake for long?” She asked in a tired voice.

“I’ve been up for a while.” I replied. I didn’t want to tell her that I didn’t sleep at all. I needed to play this cool, not to get her hopes up incase she’s not pregnant. I don’t want her to thinking that I’m disappointed if we get a negative result.

“Have you just been laying the watching me sleep?” She asked with a smile.

“You know it. What else would I be watching?” I replied with a shrug and she chuckled.

“How do you feel today?” I asked curiously.

“Mmmm…Better I think. I was probably just tired.” She replied, sounding a bit embarrassed with how emotional she had been.

“Will you do me a favour?” I asked, unable to wait any longer.

“Of course, what is it?” She asked curiously, while lifting her head off my chest to look at me.

“Will you take a pregnancy test?” I blurted out and I saw her eyes widen.

“Why would I take a pregnancy t…” She started, but trailed off when she put two and two together.

“We’ll have to pick one up.” She finished, while sitting up and looking deep in thought.

“I already picked some up.” I replied and she looked at me with a confused frown, so I continued.

“After you fell asleep, the thought hit me and I snuck out to get some. You needed sleep so I resisted the urge to wake you.” I explained.

“You really think I could be pregnant?” She asked softly, but with a hint of hopefulness in her tone.

“I do, but if you’re not, I won’t be disappointed. It just means we get to keep practicing.” I said, while wiggling my eyebrows suggestively. She laughed at my antics.

I quickly got out of bed and ran to the other room to get the bags. I came back carrying two full bags and saw her eyes widen at the sight.

“How many tests did you get?” She asked while watching me pull out the dozen boxes.

“I got two of each brand, so a dozen. I want to make sure we get the most accurate results.” I replied, while taking one out of the box and examining it with a frown. How the hell do these things even work? I pulled out the instructions and started to read them.

“Ummmm…I’m not sure I have enough pee in me for a dozen tests.” She replied with an amused smile.

“Try and pee on as many as you can. Let’s go.” I said, while grabbing ahold of her hand and tugging her out of bed. She didn’t argue and followed me into the bathroom.

I put the tests on the counter next to the toilet and took the caps off. I stood by and waited for Jess to sit down. She was watching me with her arms crossed, causing my eyebrows to furrow in confusion. What is she waiting for?

“You’re not standing there, while I pee.” She said firmly.

“But I can help and hand them to you.” I suggested and she laughed.

“Not a chance, get out.” She ordered. I let out a huff, but decided not to argue.

“You better let me back in the second you’re done.” I grumbled, as I left the bathroom and closed the door. I heard her still laughing, even after the door was closed.

I paced back and forth on the other side of the door. A minute went by and I wondered what was taking so long. I had the urge to knock, but decided against it. I would give her one more minute.

I was just about to knock, when she finally opened the door.

“I only managed to pee on 8 of them.” She said. I looked over her shoulder and saw them all neatly lined up on the counter.

“How long do we have to wait?” I asked, trying not to sound impatient.

“The box says five minutes.” She replied.

“How long has it been?” I asked.

“Mmmm…About 30 seconds.” She replied with a chuckle and I sighed in frustration. This is going to be the longest five minutes of my life.

“Let’s go sit in the room, before you drive yourself crazy.” She suggested, while taking my hand and dragging me out of the bathroom.

We sat on the bed and I set the alarm on my phone for five minutes. When I looked up, I noticed that Jess looked really nervous.

“What’s wrong?” I asked with a frown.

“I just don’t want to disappoint you.” She replied. I guess I wasn’t really acting cool like I had initially planned. I let my excitement get the better of me and didn’t realize how much pressure that was putting on her.

“You could never disappoint me. Like I said early, if it’s not positive, we will just keep trying.” I said, while picking her up by the h**s and placing her on my lap. She yelped at the sudden action.

“I love you, Jess. I’m the luckiest man in the world, being blessed with you as a mate.” I added and she smiled at me lovingly.

“I love you too.” She replied, before bringing her lips on mine.

We only pulled away from the k**s when my alarm went off.

“Are you ready?” I asked and she nodded her head.

I stood from the bed and put Jess down on her feet. I held her hand and we walked into the bathroom together.

I picked up one of the tests and it had a “+” sign on it. I started getting excited, that one was positive. I knew they weren’t always accurate, so I didn’t want to celebrate just yet.

I picked up a different brand and that one had a smiley face on it. Now I was really starting to get excited. That’s two positive tests so far.

Jess was doing the same thing as I was, both quietly looking at each test taking in the results.

I picked up the last test and by now my wolf was howling with joy in my head. We both knew what this meant.

The last test indicated 3-4 weeks and my eyes went wide. Was she already a month along? I turned to look at Jess who was now watching me silently with tears running down her cheeks.

“We’re going to have a baby.” I mumbled, completely shocked at the realization.

“We are.” Jess replied softly.

“I’m going to be a dad!” I exclaimed, when I finally snapped out of my shocked state.

I picked Jess up in a bone crunching hug and spun her around. She was giggling at my reaction, but seemed just as excited with the new. She’s going to be such a good mother. I can’t wait to see her belly grow.
