The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 9
Alpha Colton POV
I made my way down to the dinner hall and walked in. The room was empty except for Heather, who stood next to a table, that was romantically setup with a candle lit dinner for two.
Heather had changed her outfit and was now wearing, a floor length strapless black dress, that was low cut at the front, revealing a lot of cleavage. Most men would describe Heather as sexy, I mean, I can’t deny that she’s a good looking women, she’s just boring as all hell.
My eyes caught hers and she had a seductive smile on her face.
“Come sit down, Alpha.” Heather instructed and motion to the seat across from hers. I internally rolled my eyes, this is already painful. If it wasn’t for my pack needing a Luna, I would get rid of this woman.
I took my seat at the table and Heather did the same.
“How was your day? You look stressed.” Heather asked, with a concerned frown.
“It was fine, just dealing with a breach at the border, that’s all.” I said and let out a frustrated sigh.
“I heard about that girl, she has no scent or something? Sounds suspicious.” Heather said, with a look of disgust on her face.
“How did you hear about her?” I asked, irritated that she had heard about Jessica.
My wolf growled in my head at her words and the disgusted look she had, when referring to Jessica.
“Everyone knows, she fought a bunch of our warriors, even injured one of the warriors eyes, so word got around quickly. She sounds like trouble.” Heather replied and shrugged her shoulders, like it was no big deal that she knew.
I felt anger boiling inside of me. I need to talk with the warriors, this should not be public knowledge. I was distracted from my thoughts, when Heather spoke again.
“Is she being held in the dungeon? I sure hope so, last thing we need, is someone like that roaming around freely.” Heather said and shook her head in disgust.
“Enough Heather, drop it.” I order firmly and I watched, as Heather bowed her head in submission. She was really pushing my buttons tonight.
“I’m sorry Alpha, I just really care about our pack and wouldn’t want someone like that, to hurt anyone.” She replied, now with a softer voice.
We were distracted from our conversation, when an omega walked in carrying a tray.
She placed a plate of food, in front of me and one in front of Heather.
Dinner looked to be a filet mignon with a mushroom sauce, garlic mashed potatoes and charred broccolini. It smelled delicious, but I had completely lost my appetite being around Heather.
The omega bowed her head to us, before speaking.
“Do you need anything else, Alpha?” She asked in a soft voice.
“No that’s all, dinner smells delicious, thank you.” I replied, with a small smile, she nodded her head and quickly left the dinner hall, leaving me alone once again, with Heather.
“This isn’t what I asked them to make, but I guess it will do.” Heather said in an irritated tone, while she accessed the plate of food.
I dug into my food without saying a word. I figured the quicker I could get through the meal, the quicker I can go back to my office and away from Heather.
“So Alpha, I’ve started to plan for our mating ceremony. I put together a guess list and will have the invitations mailed out soon.” Heather said and I could see from my peripheral vision, that she was watching. I ignored her and continued to eat, who cares about an invitation list, but my silence only caused her to speak again.
“What do you think about Salmon and Prime Rib, as the two main dinner options?” She asked excitedly.
“Sounds fine.” I replied, completely uninterested.
“I was thinking of Crème Brûlée for desert.” She continued, clearly not getting the hint that I don’t care.
“Whatever you pick, I’m fine with.” I replied shortly, hoping that she would just stop talking all together.
“I figured we should have the mating ceremony first and then, we can follow with the Luna ceremony. I mean, there’s no reason to hold them on separate days, it’s just going to add more work, having to plan for two ceremonies.” Heather said, sounding almost like she was rambling on.
I paused for a moment and looked at Heather, while she rambled. Goddess, why didn’t you send me a mate? Now, I’m stuck taking this one as my Luna, for the best interest of my pack. I sighed in frustration.
I was lost in my own thoughts and wasn’t listening to her speak anymore. When I heard her ask me a question. s**t, what was she saying?
“So, what do you think?” She asked, with her eyebrows furrowed, as she waited for a response.
“About what?” I asked. She had an irritated look on her face, but she didn’t let on to it.
“About holding the Mating ceremony and the Luna ceremony, on the same day.” She asked, again.
“Sure.” I said, feeling indifferent. I don’t want either to happen, so why not only have one torturous night. I saw a smile light up her face, at my response.
We continued to eat and Heather continued to talk about anything and everything, I ignored her for the most part and every now and then, I would nod in acknowledgement, or give her short answers to appease her.
After dinner, the same Omega brought out a tray with desert. She put a small plate down in front of me that had a piece of chocolate cake on it, before she placed one down in front of Heather.
The Omega bowed her head down, before turning around and leaving the room.
“Alpha, I was thinking, maybe we could take desert back to your room and have it in private.” Heather suggested, seductively.
“Aren’t we in private here?” I asked, playing stupid, knowing damn well what she has in mind, I’m just not interested.
“Well Alpha, not for what I had in mind.” She continue and raised her eyebrow suggestively.
“I have work to do after dinner, not tonight.” I said firmly. I saw her bottom l*p shoot out into a pout, all it did was irritate me further. I hate, when she tries to pull that crap with me.
“Alpha, we are going to be mates, don’t you think we should share a room?” She asked.
“Listen Heather, you’re not my fate mate, you’re a chosen mate. Therefor, this is more like a business deal than an actual relationship, don’t confuse the two. You will keep your own room, If you don’t like this arrange, I apologize and won’t hold it against you if you backdown, but this is all I have to offer. Take it or leave it.” I said sternly, making sure she understood. I could see the disappointment on her face at my words, but she quickly hid her emotions and put on a neutral front.
“That’s fine Alpha, I’m not going anywhere.” She replied and this time, she had a serious face on. I nodded my head.
“Well Heather, like I said, I have work to do, so if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to my office.” I told her, as I stood from the table and she stood as well.
“Yes Alpha, you know where My room is, if you need anything.” Heather said and I didn’t miss her hidden meaning, I just ignored it. I won’t be going to her room anytime soon. I nodded to her, without saying anything and walked away.
I got to my office and I mind-linked Josh.
‘Are you busy?’ I asked him.
‘No Alpha, what’s up?’ He replied.
‘Can you come to my office?’ I asked.
‘On my way.’ He replied and ended the mind-link.
Five minutes later, there was a knock at the door.
“Come in” I said.
The door opened and Josh walked in, he sat in the chair across from me.
“Alpha, what can I do for you.” He asked, with a curious look.
“First, you could pour us both a scotch.” I said, half jokingly. He let out a chuckle, as she stood from his chair and went over to the counter to pour two glasses of scotch, before handing me one. He went back and sat in the same chair he was initially seated in.
“Did Jessica settle into her room ok?” I asked, trying to make it sound like a casual question.
“I think so, she didn’t say much. Funny thing is, I went to bring her clothes and someone had already dropped off a T-shirt and some shorts. You wouldn’t happen to know who did that, would you?” He asked, with a knowing tone. I didn’t miss the slightest smirk on his face.
“I figured, she wouldn’t want to stay in a hospital gown. Don’t read into it.” I said, nonchalantly.
“Yes Alpha, I’m sure it’s the same answer, for how the blanket ended up in her cell. There’s no way the guards would of done that, not without your approval.” Josh said and this time, his smirk was clear as day. I shot him a pointed look, silently warning him to shut up.
“Has she been brought food?” I asked, I couldn’t help it, the questions where flowing out of my mouth like verbal diarrhea. I needed to know.
“Yes Alpha, I had an omega bring her food and water.” He replied, still wearing the same knowing smirk on his face. I wanted to slap it off him, that jerk.
“Good, I want you to report to me, if she says anything to you.” I said sternly.
“Of course Alpha.” Josh replied, now with a serious face.
“If she needs anything, just ask me.” I said, again not able to stop the words, I have this internal need to make sure she’s comfortable and has everything she needs. I can’t explain why, I don’t even understand it myself.
“Yes Alpha. What are your plans for her? Josh asked, with a curious frown on his face. I let out a sigh, as I rubbed my hands over my face.
“I don’t know. I guess, I’m hoping she gives us more information, about where she came from and what she is. We don’t even know if she’s a werewolf or some other supernatural creature.” I replied and I couldn’t help my own frown from forming, as I thought about my own words.
“I know you don’t believe her, but I think she’s being truthful. I’m going to bring her lunch tomorrow and try to get her to warm up to me. Maybe, I will be able to get some information out of her.” Josh said, sounding hopeful.
I couldn’t help the jealousy that coursed through my veins. I didn’t like the idea of him having lunch with her, not alone in her room, anyway. I had to shake away the thought, I have no reason to be jealous, she’s not my mate.
“Fine, but I want a report right after lunch.” I said firmly.
“Of course Alpha. If that’s all, it’s getting late, I’m going to head to bed.” He replied, as he stood from his chair.
“That’s all Josh, thank you.” I replied and he nodded before leaving my office.
I sat back in my chair and let out a heavy sigh. What is she? It’s driving me crazy, what’s her story.
