The Omega Best Friend -

Chapter 14
Gabbie- Stinging Bees
Finished
“I should have known the fairytale would only last until midnight.” Emery sighed as we struggled to juggle buckets and brooms out of the school basement.
“Had I known I would have danced more?” She said with another sigh.
“I don’t know if it would have ended differently for me,” I said.
We carried everything we needed so we wouldn’t have to make another trip. Blair had gone ahead of us with the other omegas off to clean the mess left from last night’s Gamma rituals. They even left the stage for us to undo!
Had I known I would have been stuck with all this work to do today I would have gotten up earlier to mail mom’s letter. I had given up on calling her. After I got back to the quarters last night I wrote her a letter. I knew she would write back… she just had to.
The letter was still in my pocket. I couldn’t guarantee to finish early so I might as well mail it early. I didn’t know how we got stuck on cleaning up some of the other omegas got to go to class. I couldn’t believe I would rather be in class right now.
I dumped my stuff on the floor and sighed.
“I have to do something real quick,” I told Emery,
She nodded, “I doubt anyone will notice.”
I hurried off. All the mail had to go through the principal first so I was headed back to the school when I was grabbed around the waist and dragged to the side.
I wiggled but the brut was stronger than I expected. His laughter killed all the struggle I had in
- me.
“Alex!” I elbowed him playfully and he let me go.
“You shouldn’t do that. Are you trying to get me killed?” Geez, what if his insane mate was prowling around? If she wasn’t someone was on her behalf. I wouldn’t be surprised if she implanted a tracker on Alex.
He barked out a laugh. Glad he was having a good time.
“You can do that on your own Gabbie. How come you left so early yesterday? You looked upset.”
Suddenly, the patches in the ground were far more interesting than this conversation.
“Forget about it.”
He turned my chin so I was facing him. His brows were burrowed and his features were void of playfulness.

“No Alex. I just wasn’t feeling it. Everyone was with their dates and I just… I was tired that’s all.” I wrapped my arms around myself feeling like I overshared again.
“That’s it? Did you feel left out? Maybe if you stayed long enough you would have met someone.”
I dipped my head to the side and he groaned. He placed his huge palm on my shoulder.
“Don’t believe that just because you don’t have a wolf no one will love you.”
I sighed and looked away, “I wish that were true… I have to go mail a letter.”
“A letter? To who?”
I had pulled out the letter from my hoodie pocket where my phone was. I thought I would get a second to call Mom just in case she picked up this time. Alex tried to grab the letter out of my hold.
“To my mom! It’s not for you to see.”
He backed up and frowned. “You’re not planning an escape yet are you?”
I rolled my eyes. “Not yet. I just haven’t heard from her since I got here. I’m worried.”
“Want me to mail it for you? You won’t have to go through the principal if I do it.”
I swayed my head from side to side, “I would let you, but you tend to be forgetful at times Alex.”
His face widened with shock. “I’ve changed, but while we’re on the subject I didn’t forget, but I have something to tell you. I’ll be away from the Academy for a while.”
“What? You’re leaving? Why?”
“I have to prepare for the Battle Rituals. Something I have to do back at the pack. I’ll be gone for a couple of days. I don’t want to leave you alone Gabbie-
“Alex, I don’t need a babysitter.”
“I’m not saying that—”
“You’ve already done it, haven’t you?”
He shook his head and grabbed my shoulders. “Listen to me, Gabbie. Stay out of trouble I don’t want to come back and hear the worst.”
“Maybe with you gone, Leiah won’t try to kill me.”
His hold on my shoulders tightened.
“That won’t happen again. I had a stern word with her.”

I rolled my eyes and nearly uttered. ‘As if that’s going to do anything. But I didn’t.
Alex shoved his hands into his pockets. I saw the frustration on his face.
“You don’t take me seriously, but I’m still the Alpha. People actually do what I say, Gabbie.”
I bit my lower lip. I never thought about it that way. I lowered my gaze to my feet.
“If you say so. Alex.”
“Yeah, I mean it. Leiah won’t hurt you again.”
Before I could get a word out a couple of betas caught my view and started barking orders.
Hurry it up! We need this space to train.” Whoever he was he narrowed his eyes at me. He motioned for me to join the others as if he were the boss of me. I balled the letter in my fist. At this point in time, he was.
“Go on, finish your chores.” Alex chuckled.
I sighed and dragged my feet back to the rakes and brooms.
“We’ll be lucky if we’re done by this afternoon.” Emery mumbled.
“Stupid betas,” I muttered.
After Alex left the betas remained to watch us clean. Now and then they barked at us to move faster. I guess it motivated some omegas to work quicker and also scared the daylights out of them. I’d never seen Emery quiver the way she did when a beta stormed up behind her and yelled in her ear.
The first thing I wanted was to bash the end of the rake on top of his head. I knew that would land. me in a load of shit. We’d done over half of the work by the time the sun started to set. I’d drawn up a couple of leaves and sticks by a tree into a small hill when a heavy presence hovered near
- me.
Fear was the last thing to show a wolf. I pretended I didn’t know he was there, but his scent- despite the fact that I didn’t have heightened senses- was intoxicating. How much cologne could a guy wear? Pretending didn’t work. He brushed a strand of hair over my shoulder, his fingers running down my neck. I swallowed and continued to rake up the leaves.
His low chuckle caused goosebumps to form all over my skin. Not the good kinds. What did he
want?
“You’re a pretty little thing, omega.” He whispered, his breath heating my ear.
“Uh… thank you?
He barked out a laugh and grabbed the rake from my grip.
“Hey!” I turned to face him. He wasn’t bigger than Baxter, but he was certainly tall with arms

He backed me against the tree. I caught sight of Emery who looked like she wanted to pee her pants. Imagine how I felt.
“I heard you were feisty, Bad for an omega….good for a slut.”
I shoved him back with both hands, sending him back two steps.
“Get off me.”
His bewilderment skyrocketed when my palm collided with his cheek. Shit Gasps escaped everyone’s lips. The beta slowly turned his head to face me. His eyes burned the colours of hell I’d done it now. My palm ached like a dozen bee stings. There was nowhere to run I backed into a tree. The beta grabbed me by my shoulders, bearing his teeth he slammed me against the tree and lifted me to the top.
“You little bitch! I’m going to break you!”
I thought my bones would crack under his hold. My skin burned and my heart nearly ran out of my chest. I was screwed.
“Collins!” Someone yelled.
Still, he didn’t put me down! He tightened his grip in response. His blood–hungry gaze bore deeper into me. He was going to ruin me.
“Put her down.” My eyes searched for my saviour’s voice. I knew it wasn’t Alex. It was Kade. He stood casually with his hands in his pockets.
Why would he come to my rescue
Collins shook his head slowly. He let go of my arm so he could wrap his fingers around my throat. I grabbed his wrist but little did it do. I was running out of breath quickly and Kade didn’t
seem to Cire.
She deserves to be punished,” Collins said through gritted teeth.
“Last I checked betas don’t give punishments.”
“Only her Alpha can punish her. It’s no secret he wouldn’t do that.”
“Alex isn’t here. I’ll punish her.”
My eyes went wide, not from lack of breath, but from further fear. Alex really wouldn’t punish me. But Kade! He was JUS
looking for an opportunity.
“Now Collins,” Kade said one last time with a stroke of power that went through Collins and went straight to my head. Collins let me slide down the tree.
Before I could regain composure Kade grabbed my elbow and started dragging me away from the scene. Yet another scene.

I couldn’t even look at the other wolves. I’d caused a scandal yet again. Now I’d really pay for it.
