Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Gabbie- Denial
“Something you want to say omega?” Harlow dipped her head to the side.
Great.

“Just some questions,” I mumbled. I stared at the ground so I wouldn’t have to look her in the eye.
“Strange I didn’t know omegas could be so casual with the alphas.”
My face heated up. Shit. She stomped toward me and yanked on my shoulder. I whirled to look at her. I saw a reflection of hate and disgust. What had I ever done to her other than be born without a wolf? Even that had nothing to do with her, yet the alphas and betas hated me.
“I wondered the same thing.” Kade’s face widened with a smirk.
“What?”
“I was just going to send her to the laundry rooms.”
Oh great.
Harlow wasn’t satisfied. “Good, I’ll take her.”
I took several steps back. I didn’t like the fear I emitted. I’d been hit too many times. I had to dig deep for the fight I had when I came here. Kade stepped in front of her.
“You have to go to the midwives, remember?”
“What?” Her eyes widened. “Why?”
“That’s part of being Luna. It’s your responsibility.”
She whimpered and crossed her arms over her chest. “Come with me.”
“No. I’m not needed there.”
Harlow balled her hands into fists before she stormed off. I should have left too and forgotten about the phone. I would have found my phone another way. Except I didn’t get a word out when Kade grabbed my elbow and dragged me away.
“What do you want Gabbie?” He said with his breath.
“Forget it. Let me go.”
“Gotta punish you.”
“You’re not going to do that, are you?” For something as dumb as not calling him Alpha?

He tightened his grip around my elbow and picked up his pace. We got outside of the castle. Kade led me to the back where the alphas trained. That was not the way to the launderette. We came to
a halt.
“I just wanted to know if you’d seen something I dropped.” I burst out.
“How would I know?”
I ground my teeth together. “Yesterday when you… when that happened.”
He chuckled. “What’s that?”
I looked away. He was baiting me. My heart was racing. I tried to convince myself it wasn’t because of Kade. However, his proximity hardened my nipples and blushed my cheeks. This was all his fault. I didn’t understand what he did. One minute he wants to save me from my messes the next he wants to insult me
“Forget it. You obviously don’t know anything
My attempt to slip away was blocked when he snaked my waist and brought me back to my earlier position.
“Wait, what is it?”
“My phone.” I breathed out.
He laughed. “You know you’re not allowed to have that.”
I growled. “Have you seen it or not?”
He lifted his shoulders. Up to my head in frustration, I brushed passed him, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
“Gabbie.” His eyes flashed silver.
I stumbled back and gasped. Within his gaze. I saw the eyes of another being. His wolf. It was like he put me into a trance that would gladly lead me to a pool to drown.
“Kade.” His name left my lips without my permission.
“Gabbie!”
The trance broke. Kade and I turned to meet Alex’s burning glare. I swallowed. This was not what it looked it. There was no way I was going to tell him that while he was looking at me like that.
He reached for me and pulled me away from my suspicious position by Kade. Kade pulled on his calm mask. He wrapped his arms across his chest and exchanged a heated glare with Alex.
“Why’d you flash your wolf at her?” He asked.
“Doesn’t matter,” Kade said.

“Gabbie.” Alex growled out my name.

“It was nothing I just needed to ask Kade something. He doesn’t know anything. I was just leaving anyway.”
“Didn’t look like it from where I’m standing.
The tension was so thick I could cut it out and smack one of them with it. I grabbed Alex’s meaty arm and started dragging him away.
“I swear it was nothing.” I whispered.
“I don’t believe you.” He grounded out, this time his stare was hot on me. It made my palms
sweat.
“I got into a little trouble he was only helping me
He let out a sigh of relief. “What the hell do I do with you, Gabbie?”
I shrugged and offered him a small smile. He spread his arm across my shoulders and led me away. I shouldn’t have dared, but I did. I stole a glance back at the man who’d shown me an intimate part of him. Our eyes met, mine held uncertainty his held something I couldn’t translate.
After spending a couple of normal hours with Alex I headed back to the omega quarters. Didn’t want to miss dinner. I was hoping to replace Emery and Blair. I was going to keep the details of my latest mishap to myself. I was also hoping to avoid talking about what happened in class with Leiah. I hadn’t bothered to tell Alex that.
1 spotted Emery talking to a girl in our dorm I was headed for her when the boy from class stepped in front of me.
“Gabbie, right?” He smiled, revealing a dimple on his right cheek.
He had a contagious smile. That had to be the only reason I was smiling back.
“Yeah, Cole.
He laughed, “Glad you remembered. Are you going to hang out with us after dinner?”
“Oh, I… I’ve never really been out after dinner.”
“Don’t worry you won’t get in trouble. No one gives a shit about what happens to the omegas.
He wasn’t wrong there.
“Come on it’ll be fun. I’ll save you a spot.”
He was going to save me a spot? “Uh… yeah sure.”

It took everything in me not to ask him if he was sure. Everyone knew I spelt trouble and should stir clear. Here was this cute boy who wanted to spend time with me. No way was I going to tell him that. He flashed me another boyish smile and I merely walked inside. Emery gave me a naughty accusing grin, but if she wanted all the details she would have to follow me.
After getting out of a cold shower I settled on my bed. Something cold and sharp pierced the skin on my chest.
“Ouch.” I grasp at the pain in my breast.
I picked at the pendant mom gave me the day I left home. I wondered what he would think about me. I sighed and my eyes burned with unwanted emotion. I shouldn’t be thinking about him. I’d held out hope he would come back for years eventually I came to terms with it. I learned to survive without a dad just like how I’d survive here without a wolf.
I fell back on the bed. Dinner was in a few minutes. Thinking about Dad dimmed. my appetite. At least I had something to look forward to when I got to hang out with Cole later. I didn’t want to sell myself dreams, but a hope I hadn’t held in a long time was growing in my chest.
