Chapter 72

Date with an Alpha

“I’m sorry I ditched you. It’s his damn scent. It drives me crazy.”

“Ivan?” I whispered.

“I don’t want people to know!” She hissed.

Leiah supervised the omegas decorating the Alpha’s VIP seating area for the semi–finals of the battle season in one day.

“How’s he doing? That battle with Harlow was intense,” I asked, picking garbage and leaves that blew here from the forest.

“He’s pissed. His family’s even madder

Tomorrow night Kade’s family and Alex’s family would sit on this stage with the instructors and. lecturers of the academy to watch this match that could leave me without either one of them. I sucked in a breath and willed myself to think positively. No one was dying

“Have you spoken to Harlow, lately?” I asked.

She lifted a shoulder. “No, she’s focused on winning this thing. I’m kind of scared for Gareth. He’s not serious at times.”

“Leiah, she killed his mate. He’s as serious about this as it gets.”

I tied a knot in my second garbage bag of the day, I was about to drag it to the garbage bin when I noticed Emery on the ground creating the ribbons for the stage at the same time Tristan walked up to her.

He had his hands shoved in his pockets. Last I checked Emery told Tristan to get lost. He held out his hand and Emery looked away. Everyone saw Alpha Tristan vying for the attention of an omega. Without looking at him Emery placed her hand in his. He helped her to her feet and allowed her to walk ahead of him. They left together.

“I’d tell your friend to be careful with Tristan,” Leiah said.

“Because of his mate?”

Leiah toyed with her hair. “That but Tristan’s not a typical wolf. He’s from a special bloodline. It’s not because he didn’t want to participate in battle season he can’t. He’s got the deadliest bite and an appetite for blood.”

“What? Like the Dragonmier wolves?” They were the first hybrids, part vampire and part wolves. They were supposedly extinct.

“You didn’t hear it from me.” Leiah sighed softly and walked off. “Raise the banner higher and spread the chairs further apart.”

Several hours later the stage was set, the environment was clean and the sun hung lowly in the sky. The day was gone already and I hadn’t spoken to Kade. Deep down he was pissed about me kissing Alex but I didn’t set out to kiss my best friend again…..

“Thank you, Alpha Leiah, the omega females said in uniso

Leiah waved as they walked back to the omega quarters.

“It feels so good to be loved!” She beamed.

Geez, who is she?

I giggled. “More than being feared?”

She bobbed her head. “It’s not all it’s cut up to be.”

“Gabbie Holden jogged up to us. He wrinkled his nose. “You smell like shit.”

I frowned. Thanks, Holden. What’s wrong? Where’s Kade.”

You’re not going to see him dressed like that. He’s waiting for you at McGregor Castle. Get cleaned up and meet him there.”

“For what?”

“A date duh!” Leiah groaned. “I’ll take care of her.”

“Cool, ten minutes.” Holden jogged away.

“Kade, planned a date, for us?” I said more to myself.

“I wish he gave us more time. Holden’s right you look like shit.”

“I’m only wearing my uniform!”

“My point exactly.” She dragged me to the Alpha castle the entire time she rambled on about what dress to give me or what shoes to wear and what to do with my hair.

The last time I had a makeover was during the gamma dance ceremony. I didn’t remember the time I properly conditioned my hair. My curls hated me. Kade should have given us more time!

Leiah’s voice blended with dominant male voices. I quieted her down when I recognized Alex.

“What?” She hissed.

“Alex,” I whispered.

“You can’t hide her forever and tomorrow both packs will be here,” Gareth said.

“I have to try. I don’t want her to go through any more pain.”

t you threatened to kill her mate

have no idea how painful that is.”

My heart warmed at Gareth’s words.

“He’s lying to her. He’s been lying the entire time. When Gabbie realizes who she is her relationship. with Kade is over.”

“That includes any you would have with her too,” Gareth said.

I’m done with the secrets. Leiah grabbed my arm.

“No, you can’t go in there.”

She fiddled with the door to our left and ushered me inside.

“I’m tired of the secrets. Leiah.”

She sighed. “I swear I don’t know what they’re talking about but if Kade’s lying shouldn’t you ask him?”

“I think I have and he’s lied to my face.

“Which makes red the perfect colour for your date. Kade’s screwed we’re going to need way more than

ien minutes.

An hour later, Kade must have thought I stood him up so I was sweaty to get out the door.

“Wait, wait!” Leiah called.

“I’m late!”

“You can’t leave without shoes, gosh!”

I struggled to put on the stilettoes as I descended the stairs. My hair was curled and silky smooth. Leiah. lent me dangling star earrings and a layered red dress that hugged my frame like a second skin.

“Don’t forget to kick his ass!” Leiah called.

“I won’t.”

I entered the biting evening cold and shivered. Holden said McGregor Castle but the building was huge. I felt a pair of eyes on me but when I stopped and glanced around the area was empty and quiet aside from the regular crickets. I hurried up thinking the wolf was back to finish me off.

“A phone would be good right now,” I sighed as I climbed to the first floor.

“Kade?” I called. My voice came back as a response.

Holden should have been more specific about where to meet him. The library was big enough to have a date maybe he was there. I turned around and walked to the library but it was empty.

Mate,” a husky male voice said.

“I

gave you ten minutes and you show up an hour later?” He blasted.

I smiled at his combed–back hair, white shirt and black pants. He couldn’t keep the tie on long enough.

“You look amazing. Is this you, mate?”

He reached over me and squeezed my ass. He planted a soft kiss on my lips.

“You look gorgeous, princess. Damn, am I lucky?”

“You have Leiah to thank. I don’t have anything this nice.”

He frowned. “I love what you wear especially when it’s my clothes or nothing at all.”

He picked me up and closed his lips on mine. He set me down but continued dominating my lips. He tugged on my bottom lip before parting my lips so our tongues could meet. I moaned against his mouth. He wrapped his fingers around my throat and gently squeezed. He grunted with satisfaction.

Kade backed me into a wall. I kept his solid muscles under his clothes and moaned. He broke the kiss and dragged his lips along my jaw before sinking his teeth into my neck.

I gasped. “Kade!”

“Fuck, Gabbie.”

He grabbed the hem of my dress and massaged my hips.

“You’re so gorgeous,” he moaned.

He reclaimed my mouth and kissed me passionately I quickly ran out of breath but a part of me that I found foreign yearned for him badly. I grabbed his shirt and kissed him deeper savouring the alcoholic taste on his tongue, I wanted to spread my legs, lift my dress and have him take me right there on the

castle wall.

I reached for his belt but Kade caught my hand.

“Baby, I brought us here for a date.”

“I’m sorry. I got carried away.”

He chuckled and draped an arm over my shoulder. We came to a halt at the beginning of a trail of roses. How had I missed this? The roses led to a room lip with tiny candles on the ground. The candles lined the entire room, giving it a soft orange glow. Red roses surrounded a small square table with two chairs and a bottle of wine in a tin bucket.

“Is there anything left in the bottle?” I asked sheepishly.

He laughed. “I thought you stood me up I needed to cope.”

“Kade this is gorgeous. Who helped you?”

He frowned. “I can be romantic.”

I dipped my head to the side.

“Emery did. Tristan can thank you or else she’d still be mad at him.”

So that’s how she was able to leave with him in the morning. I tilted my head and kissed him softly.

“Thank you,” I said.

“I love you.”

1 rushed to:

cheeks and I thought I would mele from a love overload. He guided me to the table

and hidden among the red rose petals was a silver chain.

“Don’t worry, I’ll feed you. I paid the cooks pretty well for the perfect dinner.”

I picked up the chain. It glimmered in the dim light. A large emerald rock dangled between my fingers.

“Kade,” 1 said breathlessly. “This must have. cost a fortune.”

He cupped my cheeks and kissed me. “Do you like it?

“I… I don’t know if I can accept this.”

“You’ll kill me if you don’t. It reminded me of your eyes when I saw it. It’s your baby.”

Aside from the chain Kade lost I never had anything this expensive. Kade helped me put it on and wrapped his arms around my neck from behind me. Thinking of Dad’s necklace got me thinking about Gareth and Alex’s conversation earlier.

What’s Kade been lying to me about?
