ELLIE.

Me and the girls had decided to go over to the restaurant and asses the damage. Peter was still up at the Alpha house with council member Perry. I had been pleased to see that it wasn’t too bad. There were fragments of broken plates cups and glasses all over the floor, and there were a few tipped over tables and chairs, but nothing that couldn’t be easily fixed or replaced. “Alright then, ladies, let’s get to work.” I said, rolling up my sleeves and grabbing the sweeping brush. Becky and Amber started straightening up the tables and chairs while I swept. “Mum,why are we even bothering? Dad said we would be leaving Lakeside.” Becky said. I stopped sweeping and turned to look at my daughter. She looked miserable. “We won’t need to leave. Not now that Jason has been arrested.” I told her. Her face brightened instantly.

We were almost done. I would need to get some new plates, etc, but that was easy enough. This place had been Peters’ dream. I would have hated to see it destroyed. To be honest, I loved our little restaurant too. I emptied the last pan of broken glass into the garbage and jumped when I heard a voice behind me. “Oh dear. Has something happened?” I turned to replace a well-dressed woman standing looking at the broken door. “We had a break in.” I explained, wondering who she is. The woman looked surprised “Really? I’m surprised. Break ins aren’t something that typically happens in packs.” She said. Becky stepped in “It was rogues.” She said flatly. The woman nodded in understanding “Ahh I see. I guess that means that you’re not open for business?” she asked.

I told her that our chef wasn’t here, but that I was sure that we rustle her up something to eat. She thanked me and took a seat at one of the tables. I went to take a quick look at what we had in and came back to give her the options. “The pasta sounds wonderful.” She said happily. “I’m Luna Baxter, from Moon River. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She introduced herself. I shook her hand “Ellie Morris, this is my daughter Becky and a close friend of the family Amber.” I said. Her face changed slightly at the mention of Amber’s name.

AMBER.

There was something about the way Luna Baxter kept looking at me that I found unsettling. Then it clicked. Light a switch had been turned on in my brain. “Luna Baxter? Are you Chris’s mother?” I asked. She smiled and nodded. “I am. He’s actually looking for you as we speak. That’s why we ate here.” She said her tone, warm and friendly. I felt a rush of happiness at knowing that Chris was really OK. He had looked so bad when I’d seen in that dungeon. My heart jumped as a thought crossed my mind. If Chris is here, does that mean Adam is, too? I was dying to see him. I had snuck out to the back to sniff his apron a few times today already. His scent was barely there anymore, but it was just enough to take the edge of my longing for him.

Luna Baxter placed her phone on the table. “There, I have texted Chris to let him know that you are here.” She told me. I thanked her and went to grab her a drink. It didn’t take long for Chris to arrive. He swept me up into his arms and gave Mr. the biggest hug I’d ever received in my life. “It’s so good to see you.” He said “I honestly thought that I’d never see you again.” He hugged me again. I told him that I was happy to see him too and that I was relieved that he was OK. He took me by the hand and led me to the other side of the restaurant. His face was serious now. “We need to talk.” He said. I sat with him and listened as he got some things off his chest. He told me that his father knew about what I was. That he’d always known. That was the real reason that he’d sent Chris to be with me. He continued talking, telling me how he knew that Adam was my mate, and he was glad that if it couldn’t be him, then it was a decent man. He said that he would like it if we could remain friends at least and that he would always love me. I sat quietly, letting it all sink in. I stood and walked around the table, giving him a hug of my own. “Thank you.” I whispered in his ear. His eyes suddenly glazed over, and when they returned to normal, he told me that we had both been summoned to the Alpha house. He didn’t know why, but said it sounded serious. He told us that his dad was up there for a meeting about Jason. Ellie told him that Jason was placed under arrest earlier.

Luna Baxter finished her food and stood up. “Ellie dear, if I could please settle up, and then I will accompany you both if you don’t mind. I’ve got a horrible feeling that my husband is up to something.” She said. Ellie told her that it was on the house and suggested that we all go. “Amber feels like a daughter to me. So I it concerns her, then I will be right there by her side.” She said, reaching out and squeezing my hand lovingly. I gave her a big smile. It warmed my heart to hear her say that. I assured her that I felt the same. we turned everything off and began to make our way to the Alpha house as a group. I wondered why they could possibly need me there. the only reason that I could come up with that made any sense was that I was a witness. I had seen Chris in the dungeons, after all. Star disagreed she told me that she had a sinking feeling. She warned me that things might be about to get a whole lot worse.
