What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 393 Rare Blood Type
Seth chuckled lowly at Kiran's words. He gazed at Kiran for a while before saying, "If I were to acknowledge that now, I suppose it would be a blow to my pride, wouldn't it?" Kiran didn't want to waste his time with Seth and said straightforwardly, "So? What's your plan?"
Seth leaned lazily against the window and said thoughtfully, "It will be solid proof that Robert has left a considerable amount of wealth behind if Lewis does indeed announce the news of Robert's death." "Are you suggesting that I should openly acknowledge my true identity?"
Seth shook his head. "There's no meaning in doing that now that Robert is dead. It can always be Lewis' attempt to lure you into doing exactly that. It will most likely tarnish your reputation." Kiran asked, "So?"
Seth smiled. "Robert can't have only one illegitimate child born out of wedlock, right? Won't the fortune their father left behind tempt them?"
Kiran's eyes flickered, but he didn't refute Seth's opinion.
The door to the emergency room opened, and Josephine was wheeled out. The doctor called for her relatives to sign some documents, but only Conrad was there.
Conrad stepped forward and asked, "Can I sign it? There's nothing wrong with her, is there?"
"Who are you to her?"
Conrad scratched his head. He wasn't sure of that too.
Upon seeing his reaction, the doctor decided not to let him sign it. Instead, he told Conrad, "She isn't doing very well. She is weak in the first place, and her lung functions and central nervous system have suffered a certain extent of damage with the carbon monoxide poisoning."
"Is her life in danger, then?"
"She's currently out of danger, but there's no telling if there will be side effects. She would have to stay back for observation."
Conrad nodded. "Alright. Thanks, doctor."
The doctor hummed in acknowledgment and instructed the others to bring Josephine to the ward. Due to the damage she suffered to her lungs, she required a ventilator to prevent her from suffocating when she was unconscious.
Conrad waited until Josephine had settled down in her ward before rushing to the other emergency room where Sierra was.
Sierra's surgery was lengthy. She was still in there when morning came.
The doctor had issued informed consent multiple times due to her critical condition, but Sierra wasn't local. On top of that, her family and relatives weren't there, and Conrad couldn't sign it. Holding the forms, Conrad had no choice but to phone Lewis.
The other side hung up as soon as the call went through. Conrad was about to phone a second time when he heard footsteps. He looked up and saw Lewis. "Sir... can you sign these?" He passed the forms t Lewis.
Lewis flipped through them and casually cast them aside. "How's her condition?"
"I have no idea. The doctor said she was in critical condition, and it had already been 12 hours since she entered ..."
They arrived at 11 pm last night, and it was already morning now.
At that moment, Seth and Sophia arrived.
Seth asked, "Isn't she out yet?"
Conrad shook his head. "No." Deep down, he muttered, "She might not even come out."
Sophia said, "At least she's still alive, by the looks of things."
Lewis sat silently on the bench. No one could read his thoughts.
Seth glanced at him and felt amused. "Why is everyone here? I just went to Josephine's ward, and no one was there."
Conrad's eyelid twitched. He instinctively looked at Lewis.
Lewis instructed, "Get Mrs. Larson."
Conrad nodded and went out to call Mrs. Larson, who immediately packed some stuff and headed for the hospital after receiving the call.
Seth and Sophia exchanged glances, their expressions meaningful.
Suddenly, the doctor emerged from the emergency room. "We don't have enough blood supply. Is anyone here the bearer of Rh negative blood?"
They were surprised. No one could have imagined Sierra to have such a rare blood type. Where would they replace a donor?
The doctor looked back and forth. Confused, he asked, "Are none of you her blood relatives?"
Seth answered, "We're all her friends. Her relatives aren't here. Is there time if we phone her parents now?"
"Yes, if they can come within 20 minutes. Otherwise ..." The doctor didn't complete his sentence, but they understood his undertone-Sierra would die if she didn't receive sufficient blood within 20 minutes. Seth asked, "Chairman Alvarez, where are Sierra's parents?"
Lewis massaged his temples as he said wearily, "Somewhere distant."
"I have the Rh negative blood type," Sophia spoke out from one side. Everyone looked at her the moment she spoke.
Lewis scrutinized Sophia's expression. "Ms. King, that's not funny."
Sophia said, "It's true. You can test my blood if you don't believe me."
Even the doctor was surprised. How could such a rare blood type be so easily found? "Let's conduct a blood test, then." The doctor proceeded to get someone to take Sophia to undergo the test.
Seth also frowned as he watched Sophia leave. Thinking of something, he said, "By the way, has anyone in the office ever pointed out that Ms. King and Ms. Woods resemble each other, Chairman Alvarez?" Lewis' eyelid twitched. Indeed, he had the honor of listening and reading about the clichéd stories his employees had crafted using Sierra, Sophia, and him as the leads.
It was roughly about Sophia and him being ex-classmates and in a relationship. Then, they broke up, and he treated Sierra as a substitute.
Lewis narrowed his eyes. "Do you think it's possible to replace out if they're sisters through a DNA test?"
Seth rubbed his chin and said thoughtfully, "I don't think so, but we can use the results as a reference. If the result shows a percentage greater than 25 percent, it indicates there's a possibility they're sisters." Seth laughed after saying that. "Things are starting to get more intriguing all of a sudden."
"Conrad!"
Conrad was nearby. He immediately ran over. "Anything, sir?"
"Were you paying attention?"
"Yes, I was!" He was enjoying the juicy gossip too. Sierra and Sophia could be biological sisters! He was still digesting the information.
Lewis tilted his head. "Get it done."
"Yes, sir." Without a moment's delay, Conrad left to get a start on the matter. He was also curious. These two might actually turn out to be sisters! Half an hour later, Sophia returned, her heels clacking. She looked pale. It seemed she had donated her blood.
Seeing the looks on Lewis' and Seth's faces, Sophia asked suspiciously, "Why are you both looking at me like that?"
"It's nothing. We were just talking about how kind and generous a beauty like you are. Riches await you for rescuing Chairman Alvarez's lover."
Sophia looked at Seth weirdly. Although she had her doubts, the way Seth referred to Sierra as Lewis' lover bothered her.
Truth be told, she didn't want to admit to her blood type. But on second thought, there was still Josephine in her way even if Sierra died. She still wouldn't stand a chance. It was wiser for her to effortlessly claim the credit. At least Lewis would feel grateful to her.
