Who Is My Husband -
Scene 40
“Reggie did you get for me what I asked for?” Trey stood up from the table and walked over to help Kailee out of her seat. He let his hand trail over her exposed skin on her wrist before he laced his fingers with hers. There was a sweet tingling sensation that was playing between them. It seemed to get stronger at times and he felt like it was because they were closer now.
“Of course I did.” Reggie said smugly and then turned to help Jane out of her seat.
Trey tilted Kailee up to him with his half face mask on. He leaned into her and pressed into her lips, sucking her bottom l*p into his mouth and lightly nipping it before releasing her. He was going to take advantage of his half mask to enjoy tasting her lips. Just a little something to hold him over for the day. And maybe something else for Jane to see with her own eyes. “Wait here.” He walked over to the desk and switched back to his full-face golden mask. If Kailee figured out who he was then she did. He would just keep her confined at the estate. But he couldn’t have the servants figuring it out. Most of them were trustworthy but there was one or two that for the right amount could probably be bought off.
Trey came back and pulled Kailee into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her resting his hands on her lower back. “You promise you’ll be good and stay with either Lance or Grum?”
“Do I get a reward if I am good?” Kailee said coquettishly as she continued to provoke him. She listened to his chuckle.
“Where is this new attitude coming from?” He squeezed his fingers together around her. “I like it.” He growled lowly.
Kailee giggled. “I guess it must be this mate thing coming out in me more and more.”
“Mmmm then that will probably get stronger soon.” Trey smiled behind his mask. “Be safe. I will be back later this evening.” He then let his arms slowly release the prison he had created around her and took a step back. “Reggie, come with me and show me where that is.”
“On it. Don’t get too lonely. I’ll be right back.” Reggie said with a wink towards Jane.
Kailee watched the two men as they exited the room. She watched as Trey stopped to look at her one more time before finally turning and disappearing from her sight. She let out a quiet breath and looked back at Lance and Grum.
“Well he is gone now. What kind of trouble are we planning to get into?” Kailee grinned widely and surprisingly BOTH men chuckled. The sound of Grum’s laugh is something she was adding to her daily challenge list because it was more rare. She could see Jane was watching her quietly from across the table. She was being studied it seemed. Oh well. Let her study.
She felt Lance’s warm arm slide around her shoulders, and he pulled her closer into his side. “Are you still sore at all?”
“Just a tiny bit but nothing major.” Kailee smiled up at him.
“Well little lady we are taking the carriage into town anyways. And I don’t want to hear any objections over it.” Lance said, trying to act stern but it didn’t work.
Kailee tilted her head and pouted up at him. Trying to weaken his resolve.
“Forget it little kitten. It’s the carriage or you stay here with me.” Grum said and placed his hand on Kailee’s head, patting it gently.
Kailee tilted her head up and blew at his hand as if blowing him off of her. She then giggled. “Fine. But I am picking all the food this time.” She gave Grum an accusing look and watched him grin widely. The look on his grin was ornery. She knew he knew how spicy that meat was she had eaten before. She could see Jane looking at her with an almost angry glare. Why? Did she have a problem with how close they were with her?
Kailee remembered that Jane already knew these men. And besides Reggie none of them had really paid Jane much interest. This was interesting. Did they not really interact with one another?
“Have you guys all known each other long?” Kailee asked innocently and stepped back so she could face both men and Jane.
“Yes, we have.” Lance answered disinterestedly.
“Lance was always so infatuated with Trey that he didn’t pay attention to anyone else though.” Jane said, looking directly at him.
Kailee smiled. “He does care about Trey a lot, doesn’t he? I honestly love your loyalty, Lance. I know it is to Trey, but I feel like I can trust you better because of it.”
“My loyalty isn’t just to Trey. It is to you as well. Remember that.” Lance smiled warmly at Kailee.
“I already told you once that I will always be by your side now no matter what. And I mean that.” Grum added.
Kailee could almost feel the icy daggers that were being shot from across the room.
“Wow. You three seem close. Maybe a bit too close for someone who is Trey’s mate.” Jane said with a poisonous tone.
“Really? I don’t think I am close enough with these two yet. I mean I already slept with Trey and Reggie. I haven’t slept with either of them yet.” Kailee raised her finger up to her chin as she faked pondering over it.
Lance coughed as he choked on his spit and then shook his head laughing. “I think Trey would cry if he heard you right now.”
Grum looked up as Reggie walked back into the room. “So are we ready to go?”
“You guys go ahead and go. I am going to keep Jane company.” Reggie said as he slid up closer to the girl’s side. He reached his arm out and offered it to Jane. “How about a stroll through the garden?”
Jane grabbed onto his arm and smiled through her anger. “I heard that you have slept with Kailee?”
Reggie chuckled and looked up at Kailee. “It’s true but if she ends up pregnant the child isn’t mine.” He winked at Kailee playfully.
“I think Trey will like this joke. I’ll tell him later.” Kailee said and grinned triumphantly at him.
Reggie laughed. “I like living life on the dangerous side.”
Reggie led Jane out of the room and Grum sighed in irritation. Kailee looked up at him curiously and could see the anger in his eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Kailee asked.
“I don’t like that girl. Her entitlement is unbelievable.” Grum shook his head and looked over at Lance who was nodding in agreement. “For once I hope Reggie can do his thing so she can get the boot.”
Kailee giggled. “I’m surprised since you have known each other that you are all so distant.” She tilted her head to the side as she studied the two men.
“It is because we know her that we are so distant. Her family are okay people, but she is obsessed with status. She wants Trey for all the wrong reasons. And I have a big problem with that.” Lance said with disgust in his voice.
“Don’t worry Lance. She won’t ever have him. I’d incinerate her insides first.” Kailee said as her tone grew cold.
“I agree with Trey. I am liking this more confident Kailee better. It suits you.” Grum said, smiling widely.
“I feel like I am becoming more and more of myself lately. It is very freeing.” Kailee shrugged.
Lance grabbed her arm and wrapped it around his. “Let’s have an uneventful visit in the village today, okay?”
“No promises.” Kailee giggled out.

“Alright Grum. If anything happens it is on you this time.” Lance lifted his eyes to Grum and then back to Kailee. “They are pretty much all set up for the festival. If there is anything you want, we will get it for you.” He released his hold on her. “I’ll be back after I get the mask.”
Kailee looked around at the village. It had never been this crowded before. She didn’t even realize that this many people lived here. It was crowded on the dirt path through the village. There were carts set up along both sides of the road as they were selling various wares and treats. The sun was shining brightly in the bright blue sky. It was oddly clear and the blue was almost mesmerizing.
“Where to first?” Grum asked.
Kailee made a fanning motion. “It is so hot with the sun beating directly on us. Look.” She pointed up at the clear blue sky. “Not a cloud in sight. This means that first up we need to replace something cool to drink.”
Grum chuckled. “Alright let’s replace something to drink.”
Kailee linked her arm with Grum’s as they strolled down the busy path. Villagers were talking and chatting happily. You could feel the excitement from everyone for the upcoming festival. In the distance she saw a cart that was selling apple cider. She grinned and pointed in that direction.
“Two please.” Grum said as he lifted up his hand and lifted two fingers in the air. He grabbed two tin cups and handed one to Kailee. He watched her as she lifted it to her lips. A slow smirk spread upon his face as he watched her eyes begin to water. She started coughing a bit and she pushed the cup back in his hands. “Oh by the way, this is called spicy apple cider.” He grinned widely and handed her another cup that he had grabbed.
Kailee grabbed the new cup and after testing it with a sip drank it down. It was non-spicy cider. She rested her hands on her knees and then lifted her head up to glare at him. Small beads formed on her forehead as the heat beat upon her. She watched as he tried to stifle a laugh. Okay, when she meant it was her challenge to get him to laugh she didn’t mean at her expense.
“I think you are actually a prankster.” Kailee rose up to her feet and shook her head in disbelief.
“You picked the drink, not me.” Grum said, still smirking.
“Yeah, but you could have easily chosen the non-spicy one.” Kailee folded her arms in front of her defiantly and quirked her eyebrow at him.
“The bull is out! Take cover!”
“Run!”
“The bull is loose!”
Kailee and Grum turned their heads in the other direction of town. People were running and screaming through the busy road trying to seek shelter. Beyond them a large black creature with two long horns running into view. A bull was rushing wildly and charging at people.
“We’ve got to catch him before he kills someone!” A man yelled as he charged towards it with a rope.
Kailee looked to see that the man was Will. He was trying to lasso the bull in an effort to stop him. Grum stepped up in front of Kailee protectively. Another rope was tossed and Grum grabbed it. The bull was making deafening lowing noises that were menacing sounding. He began wrecking his head into carts and throwing them to the side. It was as if he was having a tantrum in the road.
Will tossed his lasso but the bull threw another cart which ended up blocking his attempt at the rope. The animal then charged towards him and hit the side of one of the buildings. The screaming noises from the people around seemed to agitate him further as he charged towards those making the noises.
The bull barreled down the dirt path, kicking up clouds of dirt and debris. People crowded to the sides and tried to hide behind structures or took shelter in some of the buildings. Grum was pushed back as children ran into him for protection. The scattering of people created a clear path. A path leading straight to Kailee.
