Who Is My Husband -
Scene 57
Black clouds of smoke wafted in the air. The visibility was low and almost impossible for a normal human to see. Reggie and Will followed in the direction where Balor had fled. While Phill, Lance and Grum went searching for Jane.
Reggie was following the werewolves scent knowing they would be right on the demon’s heels. They jogged in the darkness inhaling the burnt smell from the flames behind them. They were finally getting away from the smoke but had traveled deep into the phantom estate, Kailee’s old home. They were far enough away from everyone. No one would see them if they shifted.
A monstrous orange dragon took form from Reggie while a bronze looking one appeared from Will. They both quickly took to the sky. This demon had to go down. He had attacked Trey before. And he had tried to place his lips on Kailee. Kailee was not his mate, but she was his princess. And more than that… his friend. He was livid and needed to vent his anger out. He just hoped the demon didn’t die too quickly.
“Reg, I know this isn’t the time, but I’ve been wanting to talk to you.” Will flapped his wings next to Reggie as he continued to scan the ground. “After this… let’s talk.”
“I don’t need to talk Will. I know what you want to talk about. No thanks. Just let the past go. I don’t want to think about it anymore.” Reggie knew Will was trying to help but he didn’t want to talk… not about that stuff.
Reggie, we lost Jane’s trail. It is gone. She just vanished. Someone teleported her out of here. We are heading your way. Reggie heard Lance’s voice in his head through their mind link. Damnit, Jane had gotten away. Trey was not going to be happy about that. She was teleported away so that did give them a clue.
“Look!” Reggie said, looking down at the ground. Four werewolves were facing off with a grey creature. The creature had large wings, dripping fangs and long claws. This was the true form of Balor. And from the looks of things, the demon was having his way with the wolves. Reggie mentally rolled his eyes. The wolves could hold their own against a regular demon, but not one like Balor. He was one of the knights of hell. A group of demons known for their fearsome strength and foul nature.
Reggie circled around the group making his presence known. He let out a roar and lightly flapped his wings as he landed on the ground. Will was right at his side.
“You guys can leave. We will handle it from here.” Reggie glanced over at the wolves. One of them was bleeding badly. They would only be in the way from here on out. The larger wolf in the front nodded his head to Reggie acknowledging him. As the wolves left, helping their injured leave, Will moved positions to where they had been. The two dragons stared at Balor… waiting.
“You see… that is the problem with you dragons. It is your arrogance. You think because you are strong and there are two of you that this battle is as good as yours.”
Reggie bared his teeth at the demon. But he was actually smiling. Though a dragon smiling at you does not look like a friendly smile.
“And that’s the problem with you demons. Always thinking you know your opponent the best. You think your power of suggestion will work here… against us.” Reggie slammed his tail down on the ground creating a small cloud of debris and dust to loft into the air. “You touched someone you never should have touched. And you will not see tomorrow’s sun… demon.”
Reggie watched as the shadows around Balor grew in stature. Three more demons appeared now in front of them. Of course, the coward wasn’t alone.
“Still just as confident?” Balor sneered at the two dragons in front of him. Until he heard a low bellow in the sky. He looked up and his eyes grew wide. Three more dragons lowered behind them. They were now completely surrounded.
A red dragon that matched Reggie in size stepped forward glaring at the demons. His scales were a dark shiny red with jagged spikes over the end of his tail. Balor might be one of hell’s knights but the red dragon in front of him was also a knight. He was Trey’s first knight, Grum.
Grum’s eyes narrowed on the demons. One of the dangerous things about him was his bloodlust. He was discarded as a child because of it. His family wanted nothing to do with him. How could a noble’s son of well breeding lose his composure so much? They didn’t want to be associated with him. He was only their youngest son anyway. They had two older sons who were more worthy. So, they dropped him off with a small coin bag and told him never to come back.
It was rough for him in the beginning. He was only a small child yet had to survive on his own. He was always dirty and hungry. One day he saw the dragon army training and he asked to join. At least he would be fed there and have a place to sleep. He changed his name to Grum and took on a different identity so that his parents would never know him if they saw him.
Over the years he worked his way up in the army very quickly. He was powerful and fought with a fierceness rarely seen. He was still a young teenager when he met Trey, Lance and Reggie, who had joined in for training. It was Trey who was able to teach him how to control his bloodlust and how to focus in battle. It was Trey who for the first time treated him like a friend.
Grum worked his way to the top of the ranks and when the day came for a first knight to be appointed for the prince it was an easy choice for them to make. Grum promised himself that he would always protect the prince who had shown him humanity. The first person to offer him friendship. Sure, he had formed one with others by now… but it was Trey first.
Grum curled his lips up at the demon. Balor had attacked his prince and touched his princess. And as if a switch was flipped up, he felt his bloodlust building to the surface. A blast of flames built up in his throat before spreading out over the demons. Then he followed it up by lunging into them… into Balor.
Blazing flames echoed from the surrounding dragons focused on the demons in the center. Reggie had also lunged forward; he had a lot of frustration and wasn’t going to miss his chance to let it out. He watched as Grum’s spiked tail impaled one of the other demons. Dark red liquid splatters over the ground as the creature screeches in agony. It wasn’t long before its shoulders fell lifelessly while still stuck to the spike. Grum shook his tail, flailing the lifeless body off and somewhere in the distance.
Lance, Will and Phill were now focusing on the other demons while Reggie and Grum were locked onto Balor.
This one is mine. Grum growled, taking a possessive step forward.
I don’t think so, Grum. Reggie followed suit taking his own possessive step forward. I need this kill.
Grum growled possessively like a lion guarding his pound of flesh. He curled his lips upwards showing his white sharp fangs dripping in saliva. He wasn’t about to back off from his prey.
A dark fog shot out from the demon pelting against both the red and orange dragons. At the same time, both dragons lunged forward towards Balor. Each one clamped their jaws around the creature. And in a gruesome display of tug-of-war shredded his body in half. B***d poured from the demon’s insides and onto the ground. His innards dripped down in globs creating a sloshing sound as the foul mess hit below the dragons. With a low predatory growl, they both dropped the body and stared at the other.
Lance, Phill and Will had finished off the other demons as well. He lifted his head up to see Reggie and Grum swaying to the side slightly before their dragons vanished as they shifted back to their human forms. Both men fell to the ground. Their veins were turning black as well as their lips fading to purple.
“s**t, they’ve been poisoned. Hurry. Quickly.” Lance flapped up and grabbed onto Grum with his claws lifting him into the air while Will did the same with Reggie. With incredible haste, they flew in the sky heading for Clover Estate. What kind of poison were they dealing with? He hoped they would have the remedy available. The poison took them down fast which means it was incredibly potent. Something so lethal to take down a dragon and that quickly… A pit in his stomach formed. This could only be a poison that had been laced with magic. And unfortunately, he wasn’t sure how they could remedy that.
“Their bodies have to fight this off themselves, Lance.” Phill said as he flew up next to him. “You can’t just go throwing random antidotes down their throat. You could make the reaction worse.”
“So what do you suggest? We sit there and just watch them die? We do nothing?” Lance growled angrily as he looked at the smaller dragon next to him.
“Yes, we do nothing. We have to hope they can fight this off on their own. That is all we can do.” Phill watched as Lance curled his lips up with a low growl. He didn’t like it either but there was nothing they could do. In this situation they were powerless.
Lance flapped his wings urgently as he picked up speed. He needed to get them back on the ground so he could look them over. As he got closer to Clover Estate, he could see a familiar black dragon flying towards the same place in the distance. And on top of his back was Kailee. At least that was one less thing to worrying about…
“Is that Lance, Grum and Reggie?” Kailee asked only noticing the three flying dragons and not the bodies held in two of their claws.
Trey noticed immediately though. He instantly was searching for Reggie and Grum when he didn’t notice their dragons with them. He looked at the two men being carefully held in two of the dragon’s claws. Something was wrong.
“Something is wrong Kailee. Reggie and Grum are being carried…” Trey said as he pushed his wings forward coming in fast to land at the same time the other dragons were. He lowered himself out in the garden and sifted to his side so Kailee could hop off of him.
Kailee almost fell as she jumped off of Trey quickly. She watched Reggie and Grum get lowered onto the ground and she sprinted towards them. Trey was also running over in pace with her.
“What happened?” He yelled as he knelt beside the bodies as the other men shifted back into their human forms.
“We fought against demons. The demon Balor did something to them… It seems to be poison mixed with magic.” Lance leaned down next to Grum feeling his forehead. It was cold to the touch. His face was grey looking and unmoving. Reggie looked the same.
“Shit… Will, can you do something about this?” Trey glanced up towards the other man who was kneeling next to him by Reggie.
Will shook his head slowly. “Not this… I can’t fix this.” His voice was a solemn whisper. Will was known for his incredible healing powers… but this was something he could not fix. No one could heal something like this.
Kailee stood frozen for a moment as she looked at her family. Small flashbacks of her parents lying lifelessly popped into her head. She couldn’t lose anyone else. She couldn’t lose any more family members. She lowered to her knees between the two men as small liquid crystals dropped from her eyes. They had to pull through, right? She had just found them… it would be too cruel to lose them now. Her chest hurt. She was being crushed on this inside replaceing it hard to breathe. She loved them all so much. She watched their motionless bodies as she held onto both of their icy cold hands. This wasn’t fair. Why did she have to experience this type of pain again?
