The Mazda EZ-6 is making waves as the automaker’s first global EV, but don’t expect it to hit U.S. shores anytime soon.
Unveiled at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, the EZ-6 will debut in China later this year and make its way to Europe, with no U.S. plans in sight. The sleek sedan represents a collaboration between Mazda and Chinese automaker Changan, blending Mazda’s distinctive design with Changan’s advanced tech.
Under the hood, the EZ-6 boasts an impressive all-electric range of 373 miles and a perfect 50:50 front-rear weight distribution, thanks to its cutting-edge powertrain options. It’s built on a rear-wheel-drive platform shared with Changan’s SL03, making it both a modern successor to the Mazda 6 and a step forward in EV technology.
At 193.7 inches long, the EZ-6 is notably longer than the last Mazda 6, which was pulled from the U.S. market after 2021. Despite Mazda’s cautious approach to EVs, with the short-lived MX-30 and a focus on hybrid models like the CX-90 and CX-70, the EZ-6 signifies a significant shift.
Mazda’s commitment to internal combustion remains strong, as they join forces with Toyota and Subaru to develop innovative engines, including those running on synthetic fuels and liquid hydrogen. For now, though, Mazda enthusiasts in the U.S. will have to admire the EZ-6 from afar.
