Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil the first Maybach-enhanced SL at the 2024 Monterey Car Week, marking a significant moment for luxury automotive enthusiasts.
Scheduled for its grand debut on August 18 at the iconic Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Mercedes-Maybach SL will be showcased on the concept lawn, highlighting its elite status as part of Monterey Car Week’s premier events.
While official details are still under wraps, camouflaged prototypes have teased some intriguing design elements. These include distinctive modifications to the hood, fascias, and exhaust tips compared to the standard AMG SL. Notably, the prototypes feature a classic Maybach grille with slender vertical slats, reminiscent of the elegant pinstripe suit design.
A teaser photo from 2022 hinted at a striking Maybach SL concept, showcasing a red car with a contrasting black hood adorned with subtle Maybach logos—a potential option for the production model.
The launch of the Maybach SL is part of Mercedes’ broader strategy to emphasize lower-volume, high-margin vehicles, announced in 2022. This strategy has already seen the introduction of the Maybach EQS SUV and a preview of a new SL speedster, which will be the inaugural model in a new Mythos series of bespoke in-house creations.
In addition to the Maybach SL, Mercedes will present several other exciting models at Monterey Car Week. The limited-edition Maybach S680 Edition Nordic Glow, restricted to just 50 units exclusively for the U.S. market, will also make an appearance. Additionally, Mercedes will unveil a special-edition AMG GT3 race car, celebrating 130 years of Mercedes’ motorsport legacy. This exclusive model will be limited to just 13 units, with its market availability yet to be announced.
