The roar of a V-8 engine is a defining characteristic of high-performance driving. However, with the rise of electric vehicles, enthusiasts may worry about losing that iconic sound. Dodge is addressing this with an innovative approach for their new Charger Daytona EV.
While the redesigned Dodge Charger, which debuted in March, offers a choice between an electric powertrain or a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6, the electric version—the Charger Daytona—will feature something special: the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust. This system uses speakers and resonators mounted under the car to simulate the thunderous growl of a V-8, aiming to deliver what Dodge calls “Hellcat levels of sound.”
The Fratzonic system, showcased in a recent social media video, has been significantly refined since its debut in the Charger Daytona SRT concept. The result is a sound that closely mimics a genuine V-8 exhaust note, adding a thrilling auditory experience to the electric driving sensation.
However, don’t expect a V-8 option directly from the factory, as Stellantis is phasing out V-8 engines across its lineup. For those determined to keep the V-8 experience alive, Stellantis will still offer V-8s in crate form. While swapping one into the new Charger’s inline-6 setup remains uncertain, the aftermarket industry is likely to provide solutions if there is enough demand.
