A Cowboy In Love -
Chapter 11
-You're a bad liar, city girl.
-What the hell are you talking about?
-I'm leaving now, have a good rest.
He left her room leaving her more nervous than she already was, her first night there and already the owner had kissed and groped her. The last thing she had imagined on arriving in San Antonio was meeting a sexy cowboy who kissed her the same day she arrived without warning, and they didn't even get along. She'd have to fix her to avoid that for the next few days. She changed her clothes and got into bed, she would think no more of that abusive Jack.
Meanwhile in the next room Jack was tossing and turning in bed, as he left Megan's room he went into his own room thinking about what he had done. He couldn't deny that he enjoyed teasing her and kissing her, it was very entertaining. But if he continued down that path things were not going to look good and the healthiest thing he could do was to withdraw and leave her alone, but that meant never kissing her or being near her again.
In the morning the sound of horses woke Megan from a very strange dream, where Jack had slipped in. She woke up and paid more attention to the sounds outside the house, the horses could be heard and the voices of people where she ordered. What time would it be that she was still in bed, usually she always got up very early, she decided to get up at last getting into the bathroom to finish waking up for when she left her room the hallway was silent, maybe everyone was downstairs having breakfast. He arrived at the bottom of the stairs and saw Melissa sitting there laughing animatedly, while the kitchen smelled of coffee.
-Good morning Megan. You slept well. Her friend smiled at her and motioned her to sit next to her.
-Why didn't you come upstairs to wake me up? When she sat down, she noticed that on the other side of the counter, Rodrigo and Jack were lying on the counter drinking coffee. His grandmother was on the other side chopping up some lemons. -Miss Megan, good morning, your blankets are sticking to you," Rodrigo laughed. Rodrigo said with a laugh.
-Good morning. Yes, I think so.
-That's why I didn't want to wake you up, I thought it would be good for you to sleep. Your grandmother didn't want to wake you either.
-My girl, you must be hungry, I'll serve you a good breakfast, you have to have energy for when they go riding.
-Right, I forgot about that, Mel, I'm sorry. When she looked at her friend, her eyes widened.
-What happened to you?
Oh no, it was time to say what happened to her lip.
-I just hurt myself in the bathroom, that's all. Her friend looked at her suspiciously, obviously not believing a word of it.
-You should be more careful.
-What time do we go riding? She asked to change the subject. But on the other hand she felt Jack's cold stare, he was silent, he hadn't uttered a word since she had sat down. -After breakfast. Rodrigo told her. -I'll wait for you in the stables.
-Well, thank you Rodrigo, Mel and I have never ridden.
-Don't worry, I'll replace you the best horses.
-It's time to go. Said Jack.
-Yes, boss. He touched the brim of his hat pointing to the two women.
When they both left, Grisell handed Megan her breakfast plate and a cup of coffee.
-All right now, tell us what happened between the two of you?
-What? What are you talking about? He answered without giving importance to her question.
-Come on, don't play dumb, you didn't get that on your lip in the bathroom, I'm not dumb.
-Well, I don't know what you're thinking, but what you're thinking isn't true.
-My girl, you can't fool us, you and Jack are up to something. Grisell told her.
Of course they had something in common, antipathy, none of them tolerated each other, or so I thought.
-We don't have anything.
-And why did it take so long yesterday at the office? Her friend asked curiously.
-He wanted to know how long we would be staying, that's all.
-Yes, and that's why you came to the dining room as white as a sheet of paper. Something happened there, so tell us.
-Enough questions, Jack doesn't like me and I don't like him either. -Are you happy? We just argued in the office.
-And what happened, my girl? Grisell approached her worried, she didn't want to distress her grandmother, she knew that she held Jack in high esteem.
-Nothing, grandmother, just that Jack feels uncomfortable, that's all. And he's afraid that you'll come back to the city with me.
-But that won't happen, I've already told you I'm staying here. And don't try to persuade me young lady, it won't do you any good.
-Well, if that's the case, Mel and I won't be around much, Grandmother, what good is it going to do me to stay in the house of a lout who doesn't like me.
-Megan Black! exclaimed her grandmother angrily. -Don't express yourself that way about Jack, he's a good man.
-Yes, of course, Grandma, anyway. We'll stay for a week at the most, and when I come back to visit you, I'll stay in a hotel in town.
-But one week is not enough my child, we still have so much to share. I'm sure Jack won't mind.
-You always speak for him, grandmother. Stop doing that. In a week we'll be leaving Mel.
-Okay Megan you're my boss, but let me tell you this ranch is fantastic.
-I don't doubt it, but that won't change anything!
She was furious, her grandmother felt so much empathy for Jack that she felt some jealousy and it was a most absurd thing to do. And worst of all, she was being made out to be the bad guy while he was the hero. She only had to stay for a week and she would forget all that when she returned to her life.
-There's no one to change your mind, since that's the way it's going to be, let's enjoy the remaining days then.
-I have no problem with that.
-My girl when you get to know the ranch better you won't want to leave in a week believe me. It has its charm!
-Grandma you've decided to stay and I respect that, I'll visit you when I have time from work but don't try to sell me this place so I can stay here permanently. The last thing I want is a neighbour like Jack Manson!
-Why don't you have breakfast, it will help your bad mood.
-Thanks, Grandma!
-So you've kissed Miss Megan, huh?
The question caught Jack off guard, they were at the fences supervising the branding of cattle.
-Don't talk!
-Aha, yesterday she walked into the dining room white as snow, plus she was very quiet and this morning she had the cut on her lip. You're not at all subtle with women. For more free novels, visit Narugi.com -I don't have to give you any explanation.
-I thought you said such women were out of our reach, and you come along and kiss one.
-That's none of your business.
-Yes, I know it isn't. -Yes, I know it isn't. But it's too late to deny it, we all know what happened between you.
-Why the hell are you sticking your nose where it doesn't belong?
-I'll ask Melisa out. He said ignoring her question. -Since you kissed Megan, I see no reason for me to ask her friend out.
-Do whatever you want.
-I'll tell you one thing, do the right thing. Last night before she left she gave you a murderous look, if she had a knife in her hand she would have stabbed you.
-We just had a disagreement, it had nothing to do with cutting his lip.
