A Cowboy In Love -
Chapter 29
Then we're not going to get anywhere Jack.
I can't promise you anything else for now Megan.
Then we're done with this conversation, aren't we?
Okay Megan Blake, we're done with this conversation. He said to her in annoyance.
He stormed out of his office as she swore to herself that it would be the last time she would ever sleep with him. She collapsed into tears on her couch with her hands over her face lamenting that he didn't realise what the two of them could have had. [...]
Everything is ready Grisell, don't worry everything will be fine, I prepared a room for him downstairs, he didn't want the one upstairs. Melisa commented to him.
It doesn't matter I don't want her to be uncomfortable, she must be arriving already. I am very anxious. Said Grisell.
If I am too, it has been four months since we don't see her.
Oh! It is Rodrigo's truck, come on Melisa, run!
Both women rushed out to welcome them with open arms and big smiles on their lips.
Megan my girl, you look beautiful.
Grandma I missed you so much, I missed you so much. They hugged each other tightly with tears streaming down their cheeks. -Mel, you have taken good care of my grandmother, thank you. The friends hugged each other too, it was a very emotional reception from their family.
Well, let's go in and have a drink.
Rodrigo took a small bag out of the car and went inside with them.
Where do I leave the bag? I have to go to work.
Next to my room, honey. Melisa told him.
And how long will you be staying, girl?
About four days grandma, I'm sorry I can't stay longer.
It's such a short time, it's been four months and you're only staying four days!
Yes grandma, I'm sorry I have a lot of things to do at home, I sold my parents' house and I'm planning to remodel the other house I bought, I also need to sell a lot of things from the old house.
How are you Megan? asked her friend, looking at her belly.
I'm fine, Melissa, everything is fine. She knew very well why her friend was asking, but they would talk about that later with her. - And the owner of this house?
Well Jack is very sulky, a month ago he went on a business trip and he arrived worse than before, and when he knew you were coming he left very early in his car and this is hours ago he hasn't returned.
So he had said that his trip had been for business, no one knew he had come to see her. That confirmed what she believed, that he was not looking for anything serious with her, otherwise he would have commented that he was going to Atlanta to see her. She was deeply disappointed to learn that she was right about that.
I guess he doesn't want to run into me and make me uncomfortable.
We think he does. said both women in unison.
How condescending!
It's just as well my child, his mood is not the best.
They talked for a long time, but Megan's travel was taking its toll on her and at almost five months pregnant she was easily exhausted, she had worn loose-fitting dresses so that her belly wouldn't show. It wasn't very noticeable, but if she wore tight clothes it was in danger of showing. In her room, already in bed, her friend Melisa entered without knocking, closing the door behind her.
Well, how is the baby?
He's fine. she said laughing. - Do you want to know the s*x?
Of course I do, what kind of question is that?
It's a boy!
Oh Megan how wonderful, congratulations! But next time you come you'll be bigger, what will you tell grandma?
I don't think there will be a next time Mel, I'm almost five months away from another trip.
Oh Megan! Grisell will be very sad, for missing the birth of her great grandchild and for going so many months without seeing you.
Well maybe you both will keep me company for the week of the birth.
Of course that's an option too! - What about Jack?
Well he doesn't have to know about any of this.
Megan has missed almost five months of her baby.
We've been over this.
Yeah, well, I'm sorry.
The friends caught up on everything that happened in Atlanta, until Megan told her she was dead asleep and her friend let her rest. The next morning Megan got up, dressed up and went outside. Her grandmother as usual had breakfast ready for her and to tell the truth she was starving. Good morning everyone. she said.
I think you've become very lazy, child. said her grandmother.
Is it just the three of us at home? She asked cautiously.
Yes, Jack left about an hour ago. I think he lost a few pounds because he didn't eat breakfast and yesterday he didn't eat lunch, when I left the kitchen in the evening he still hadn't arrived.
I don't want him to feel uncomfortable with my presence Grandma, I should stay in an inn or something. He can't be starving just because he doesn't want to run into me.
Leave him alone, he won't starve. There's always somewhere to eat.
Well, tell him I'm leaving the day after tomorrow, so he'll be more relaxed.
If that's what you want, what are you doing today? You should go horseback riding with Melisa and Rodrigo.
Hmm... No grandma, maybe we'll go for a little walk, right Mel.
Yes, we'll walk around.
In that case, why don't you take her to that little creek that Rodrigo took you to see?
Oh yeah right! You're going to love it Megan, hardly anyone goes there. We can go for a swim.
That sounds good, I like that idea.
Then have breakfast and I will prepare a basket of snacks for you to take with you.
After a wonderful breakfast, the friends set off for the creek, which was not far from the ranch. They both walked very slowly while their topics of conversation were focused on the new life Megan intended to have in Atlanta, also Melisa told her about her progress with Rodrigo. Finally after a while of walking they had arrived at the creek, which was clean and fresh.
It's fabulous here, why didn't Rodrigo bring us here when we stayed for a whole month?
Well I think your foot was a big problem.
Yeah but after that.
You always turned down our invitations!
Well I wanted to give you guys some privacy.
How silly, we invited you because we knew you were home alone when I was leaving with Rodrigo.
Well since. I'm here, so let's get it over with. Are you really sure no one's coming over here?
Positive. At this hour, everyone's working, plus I want to see your belly.
Megan took off her dress and put on a long loose blouse that came down her thighs, they got into the water and it was perfect. They sat down and started chatting happily, until Melissa jumped up.
Good heavens Megan... Holding a hand to her forehead.
What's the matter with you?
I had to deliver some washed and pressed clothes to Jack, he said he needed them for tonight.
Oh, my God! I've left them soaking.
Oh MeL! but well go ahead and go ahead. I know the way back, if you go at my pace you won't get there fast.
I can't leave you alone.
I'm not a child Mel I'll be fine, I'll be right behind you just slower.
Alright, you just follow the path and that's it.
She watched as her friend hurried down the road back to the ranch, while she began to grab her clothes to get dressed and start walking, things had changed a lot, Melisa had a lot of work now which reminded her of what her friend had told her, Jack was going out that night, most likely he would have a date, jealousy was swirling inside her thinking that he would give to another woman what I had denied her. What are you doing here alone? Now she was in serious trouble, what was Jack doing there. When she got out of the water her blouse would cling to her body and her pregnancy would show.
I was just leaving. He was behind her so I couldn't see him.
I don't see that you feel like going out.
I'm going out now, when you leave!
I'm not leaving here leaving you alone.
Melissa told me it wasn't dangerous, besides, we're on your land.
And it's not, nobody passes through here without me knowing about it.
Then you don't have to stay.
But I will! she said in an arrogant tone.
