A Doll for the Boss
I expected nothing less.

I walk through the hallways, sweating in my hands. I was nervous, standing in front of her room. I was scared, I didn't know what to say or how to act. Everything about her was new to me. I take a deep breath and enter. Her eyes are looking at me, I feel like she's seeing right through my soul just by looking at me.

"How are you feeling?" I ask cautiously.

"I'm better, just have a slight headache. I don't know what else to say," she says honestly.

"You don't have to say anything else. You didn't respect my decisions. I told you not to see him anymore," I say, looking at her.

"Have you ever thought about me?"

Her question throws me off.

"Always, every day of my life," I say, lowering my gaze. It was true, she didn't remember me, but I loved her since I was a child, until she made that big mistake.

"That's a lie," she challenges me.

"Do you doubt me?" I ask angrily.

"I don't doubt you, it's just that if you really thought about me like you say, you would realize that you're not the only one entitled to a life. Let me give you an example: I am like a fish in a half-filled fish tank, I gasp for air one moment and suffocate the next because I don't have enough water. So, in order to breathe, I have to make an effort to dip my head in the water and survive. But this generates a lot of effort, so I can't stay in that position all day. Then I go back to being in the dry, lacking oxygen. That's how I feel when you're far away from me. I can breathe peacefully. I do everything to make sure you're okay, calm. They negotiated my whole life for you, but I'm also tired of trying to please you."

"I can't be calm at work because I'm constantly thinking that you're going to leave. I'm tired of that. I admit that I have been very cruel to you, but I don't want to continue like this, Sam. We can't go on like this."

"I'm sorry, Serkan. I'm acting like a selfish little girl. Forgive me, it's just that I don't know how to act when I'm with you."

"I understand, but I don't have a manual for this either. Let's take things slowly. We have a child to think about. You can't keep running away from me."

"I know," she says, crying as she covers her face with her hands.

"Don't cry, darling," I say, approaching her to hug her.

After waiting almost an hour for my grandfather, he finally arrives, coming in with a lot of bags. He hands me a large paper bag, I check it and replace chicken soup. I take it out of the package and give it to Sam, passing her the utensils and her drink.

"You have to eat it all," I say, looking at her.

"Don't doubt it, I'm very hungry," she says, smiling, brightening my life like the sun does every morning.

My revenge had gone to shit.

After eating, a nurse comes to inform us that she's going to clean my wife. I refuse to leave, I want to help, she's my wife, so she explains what I need to do. I search for her clothes, underwear, and her new pajamas. The nurse and I help her get dressed, she was quite heavy, but I could handle her.

After she's dressed, the nurse leaves.

"Why are you so quiet?" I ask, looking at her.

"I'm embarrassed to see myself like this," she says, hiding her face with her hair.

"Please, I never thought you would feel ashamed, my little kitten," I say, laughing. "Serkan!" she says, laughing out loud.

"It's good to hear you laugh," comments the doctor entering the room. I didn't like this woman, I felt like marking my territory every time she got close. I was sure she was hiding something.

"Hello, Doctor. Thank you for taking care of me. Do you remember my husband?"

"I had the pleasure of talking to him again," she says seriously, while I don't say anything.

"Let me tell you that you need to rest if you don't want to harm the baby. You can't run, do any physical exertion, no stress. Your baby has a cardiac arrhythmia, so we'll try to control it naturally for now. If not, we'll wait until you're seven months pregnant and perform a cesarean section."

"Do you think I could travel to London?" I ask seriously.

You can, but you shouldn't, unless it's in a private plane and you can lie down on a special clinic bed."

"Then I will arrange all of that," I say, smiling.

"Wait, we need to discuss it," Samantha says, looking at me.

"I know, darling, but I have to travel. You know I can't stay here. I would gladly move my company here, but right now I'm in an important negotiation. Understand me, my love," I say, speaking to her softly.

"Alright, then, doctor, could you give me a detailed report of my condition, a copy of your medical record and anything else you think is necessary," she says, finally marking her distance with this woman. I was jealous, it seemed like a joke but it was true.

"Of course, give me an hour and I'll arrange your transfer. It was a pleasure, Mr. Ferner," she says, shaking my hand.

"The feeling is mutual," I respond in the same way, gripping her hand tightly. Here, I'm the one in charge.

The doctor leaves, while I call my grandfather. I needed him to take care of everything, that's why I brought him here.

"Grandfather, I need you to prepare the plane to transfer my wife. She can't go sitting down, she needs to be in one of those clinic beds. Call to have my floor prepared and hire staff to take care of her. I'll take that trip you've always wanted. I'll take control in London," I say, not letting him speak.

"You make me so happy when I hear you say that. Give me an hour," he says before hanging up.

I finish the calls and return to my wife. She was even more beautiful, if that was possible. The change in climate made her look even paler. It seemed like she had eaten, she looked fuller. This woman had made me weak. "Why are you staring at me?" she asks, smiling.

"At how beautiful you are," I say affectionately.

"You're such a smooth talker."

"I am," I say, embracing her. Her scent, how much I had missed it.

"Forgive me for trying to run away from you. I want us to get along," she says, looking at me.

"Don't disappear again. I want to propose something to you," I say, smiling.

"Another one? This would be the second one," she says, laughing.

"Very funny, but it's serious. When the baby is born, I'm going to take a vacation. We'll visit various places in the world with our son," I say seriously.

"It's not necessary for you to take me on a tour of the world," she says seriously.

"I know, but it's what I want. I also want you to work with me. You would be my landscape architect."

I knew that was her dream, but I had sent it to hell to fulfill the deal I made with her father.

"Then, alright, I'll think about it."

The rest of the night I had to force her to sleep, I do not know if it was the effect of some medication but she did not stop talking and moving, I was exhausted, I lay down on the furniture and fell asleep until six in the morning. I woke up with a terrible pain in my neck, I checked my phone and found a message from my grandfather that we could leave at ten o'clock in the morning.

We took off from New York at eleven in the morning, luckily the trip wasn't so hard, at nine at night we were already entering the house, I was carrying Sam in my arms, my butler welcomed us.

-Welcome to your home, Mrs. Ferner. -Rodolfo the butler says when he sees us.

-Hello Rodolfo, it's a pleasure to meet you.

-Rodolfo please, if you want you can leave, I'll take care of the rest, besides you can't be out there jumping around at this hour, you're already a little old man.

-I'm an oak boy," he says seriously.

-I know, but go to rest," I say smiling, and as a good employee he leaves.

- Do you want it? -asks Maritza

-That's right, he was always there for me when nobody else could, he and my grandfather are my family, and of course you are now" I say while kissing her, I had not had the chance, I walk to my room, placing her carefully on the bed. -Serkan, I'm not made of glass," she says smiling.

-To me you are, so I must treat you like what you are, my most precious treasure.

-You are exaggerated, could you pass me my bag" she says, I take her heavy handbag and give it to her, she takes out her cell phone and starts to write, after ten minutes she is still writing, so I can't stand the curiosity.

- to whom are you writing that will? - I ask seriously

-You won't like the answer, I'm sure you'll make a mess, but Omer is my friend, I'm sure he'll look for me, he also sent an email to the faculty to confirm my attendance to the meeting.

-What meeting? -I asked doubtfully.

-My graduation.

-When is it? You are on bed rest

-In two weeks, I can't miss it.

-Then I'll accompany you.

-I expected nothing less.
