A Gold Alpha For A Silver Alpha -
Chapter 1
I wake up to the incessant noise of someone banging on my door, I groan from the pain in my head and stand up slowly opening my eyes because the sunlight hurts me. I hear a faint protest and turn to see a naked blonde girl tangled in my sheets, I roll my eyes
and head to my door to yank it open.
-Good morning to you too-.
-I'm not in the mood Noel, my head hurts like hell to put up with bullshit at this time of the morning.
-Tomorrow, Jason, it's four thirty in the afternoon.
I grunt again, grimacing.
-After last night's party I shouldn't be getting up before seven.
-Well, I'm sorry to tell Alpha that you can't sleep in, we have things to do, so get off your b**t, take a bath, get dressed and go down to the office.
-Sometimes I wonder who the Alpha is here.
Noel grimaces at the idea, but doesn't comment anything just shakes his head and pushes me into the room.
-Hurry up, and fire whoever is in your bed.
He smiled slightly.
-You know me perfectly well.
-Yes, I heard you perfectly last night too.
He says with raised eyebrows to which I laugh, but I stop immediately and grimace at the throbbing pain in my temples.
-Do me a favor and wait for me in my office with a couple of aspirin.
He nods and closes the door, I walk to my bed and lightly shake the girl awake, she opens her eyes and when she sees me she smiles smugly.
-Good morning.
-Go away.
-What? -.
-You heard me, I have business to attend to.
How could you say that to me after...?
-What, did I promise you something, did I tell you that we would be together and you would be my Moon, no, I didn't, so do me a favor and get up and leave at once if you don't want me to order one of my men to drag you away. The girl stands with her chin up very dignified and walks to her dress that is lying down, she puts it on to turn around and leave, closing the door with a slam.
I don't even flinch, I go to my bathroom and let the water wash away all traces of alcohol and sweat. I close my eyes to the sensation that fills me, and the corners of my lips rise slightly at the appearance of blue eyes in my memory. -Happy Anniversary my love, I hope you have everything you wish for.
I whisper lightly, and undo the image of Ana before my memories drag me down and plunge me into my past.
I turn off the water and get out of the shower to dry my body, in my closet I put on some boxers and choose some faded jeans and a wine colored shirt with some black shoes.
I don't worry about combing my hair as I don't need to, I'm sure my hair will take care of itself once it's dry, I leave the towel on my bed and go downstairs to my office.
I open the door to see Noel at his desk reading some sheets carefully.
-Aspirin and a glass of juice are on your desk.
He tells me without looking up from what he is doing.
-Thank you.
I walk to my desk and sit on the chair, take the two aspirins and rush the juice to finish it.
-Okay, now, what are the issues that need priority?
I say looking at all the contracts that are scattered on the table.
Noel sees me raising an eyebrow and answers me with a surly tone.
-They are all a priority, if they weren't I would take care of them, you know that. I snort in exasperation.
My Beta is the only one I allow to talk to me like that, if someone else did it I wouldn't hesitate to send him to the dungeon for his insolence. -Any urgency? I asked again.
-The petition of the packs against the rouges and vampire groups. She answered after considering it for a few seconds.
I nodded looking for it among all the mess.
-Well, I'll read it right away.
The document dealt with preventive measures in case of an attack against an ally and the risks involved in a war or invasion of another territory.
-Noel, I don't like to deal with these things on a sheet of paper that can be torn, organize a dinner and invite each of the Alphas and their families, I want to hear what they have to say. -What day?
-As soon as possible, one more day without resolving this matter is one more day we give them to attack us without having enough defenses.
-There are about 10 herds, we would have to triple the security, only the Alphas and their Moons, it will be a real chaos.
-Okay, I expect a report when you have it arranged, I'll go train the younger warriors and observe the surroundings, contact me on the link if you need anything.
Noel nods and starts to organize dinner with the packs.
I make my way to the training center and head to the part where the youngest ones are, they are between 10 and 12 years old.
Maybe it sounds a bit cruel that we make them work from such a young age, but in these years we only taught them how to survive, light a campfire, climb trees, hide anywhere, be stealthy, etc.
It was a small group compared to the previous years, 15 or 20 at the most. No women, no, they start training until they are 15 or 16 and voluntarily.
The kids look at me with a look of fear and some lower their heads in respect, I smile at the thought that it will be a great generation of warriors when they grow up.
(...)
I spent the whole afternoon training the children, I even managed to get them not to be afraid of me and we got along well, now they were more confident and relaxed in my presence without losing respect for my position.
I get back home around 6:00 p.m. I go straight to the shower because my body feels sticky with sweat from having exercised under the sun all afternoon and I take my time under the artificial rain that runs through my body to clean every inch of my skin.
Just this once I allow myself to remember, I allow myself to be weak, I let myself be carried away by my thoughts until an image of a beautiful girl with blue eyes and a mischievous smile floods me with nostalgia. Choking me with melancholy that chokes my throat and fills my eyes with tears.
-You don't know how much I miss you love.... I whisper aloud trying to swallow the knot of emotions.
A treacherous tear rolls down and blends with the tap water, I take a couple of breaths as I order myself to pull myself together.
I finish bathing and get dressed with my underwear and a pair of pants, with my hair still wet I go down to the kitchen where my cook Mrs. Bridget, (a nice Italian lady of 43 years old), is waiting for me.
-Good afternoon, signore, would you like to have some dinner? -
Frankly I love her accent.
-Please, Bridget. I ask politely.
-Right away signore. She gives me a smile with a bow before going to get my food.
I sit at the table while I wait for Mrs. Bridget, I really love her cooking, if I could I would marry her chocolate cake.
After a few minutes she brings me a plate full of pasta with melted cheese and freshly baked bread, one of her specialties, I am not disappointed as it is d-e-l-i-c-i-i-o-s-o.
My wolf growls as he eats the delicacy.
This is delicious.
I know it is.
I will marry this woman.
Don't even think about it, that's our mate's post and hers alone.
Then I'll be alone all my life because of your whim.
I complain as I roll my eyes.
It's not a whim, I have a feeling.
Are you going to tell me what it is?
Sorry wolf stuff.
But...
Noel wants to talk to you.
Don't even think this conversation stops here. Where is he?
On the other side of the door deciding whether or not to knock.
Okay, I'll talk to you later.
I cut the link with my wolf to speak out loud.
-Just come in, Noel.
He opens the door and bows his head when he sees me.
-Alpha. I almost snort at his formal tone.
Wasn't he lecturing me in my office a few hours ago?
-For God's sake, I don't know how many times I'll ask you to call me by my name. I say, arching my eyebrows at him.
He crosses his arms and gives me a look of defiance.
-Mrs. Bridget is allowed to call you signore.
-Mrs. Bridget is not my Beta and she has not known me all my life. I scold him and the male has the guts to roll his eyes at me before answering.
-Anyway, I was just coming to let you know that the dinner you wanted will take place tomorrow night, all the Alphas have confirmed their attendance with their Moons, or at least those who have one.
I nod as I take a bite of my food before asking.
-Which packs are still without a Moon? -.
-You mean besides ours. He pokes me reproachfully.
I can't help but grunt, he throws his hands up in defeat.
-Okay okay, put away your wolf claws, there are 8 Alphas who still haven't proclaimed their Luna.
-Any we should worry about?
Noel shakes his head while smiling amused.
-Winter Fall, but nothing new, you know Christian, he's behind every one of your conquests waiting for the opportunity to steal your Moon.
-Well, in that case he'll be alone for the rest of eternity, just like me.
He sighs, erasing his amused countenance and gives me a look that says, it doesn't have to be like this. But he doesn't understand, Noel has a beautiful mate who has loved him for 3 years, and they are even expecting puppies!
That's right, Lissa is 1 month pregnant, my Beta couldn't be happier and prouder that his mate is finally carrying his offspring. And don't get me wrong, I'm happy for them, they deserve it, but as far as I'm concerned, my turn in love came to an end years ago and I have learned to accept it.
-The Alphas arrive at 10:00 p.m., it's a formal thing, don't be late. He pulls me out of my thoughts and I grimace, going over my schedule for tomorrow in my mind.
-I'll do my best.
He nods and walks away leaving me alone, I follow his example retreating to my room as I had already finished my dinner, some omegas came over to take away what I had taken and clear the table.
Once inside my room I plop down on the comfortable bed and convince myself that I am right, love is no longer made for me, nor I for him. An empty, broken honey gaze haunts me and I cover my face moaning to erase the image from my head. Do you really hate me so much?
Was my question to the goddess Selene before I fell asleep.
That night I dreamed for the first time of silver eyes as bright as the moon hunting me deep in the forest. Making me feel for the first time in many years like a prey instead of the hunter.
