A Kiss For Your Freedom -
Chapter 37
Jason's
POV
I never thought he would go this far. Attacking his sister, a human incapable of facing a Wolf. A dull rage takes hold of me. How can this man, this Wolf whom I have admired and whom I have known for so long, be so different from what I believed? However, just like me, he did everything so that the pack found peace, so that the conflict finally stopped and that we no longer had to bury ours under the tears and cries of their wives, their children. So why? Why threaten to kill a simple human? Dorian places his hand on my shoulder, directing me to sit next to Emma as he kneels in front of us.
- We will resolve the problems in order, he said. Firstly your sister, my dear. For the moment, he certainly hasn't done anything to her, his goal is to push you to leave us so that we can get out of our hole too. He is counting on your relationship to achieve these ends. Of course we're not going to let him do it. We're going to go replace her and get her out of these clutches but you must also understand that we will be forced to call on our Wolves and therefore that she will see us as we are.
- That's the least of my concerns, Emma replies with a glint in her eyes that I didn't know she had.
- Very well, then. Jason, I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but he won't give up, he's willing to go way too far. If we were the only ones involved, I would tell you that we can continue to hide and live in seclusion, but nothing tells us that there is no risk of attacking other people, other humans. Melissa for example. I know you've known him for a very long time but it's time we step up. And when I talk about intervening, I'm thinking of a radical solution, he said, placing his hand on my thigh. - You want us to confront him, right?
- He will definitely be with his sister, I doubt he did all that to keep his hostage away from him. You have to prepare yourself for what's coming next. Our Wolves are stronger than they have ever been. If we stay united, we can succeed. "To kill him," I said, blowing.
- We reach a stage where it's him or us. I wouldn't let him lay a hand on Emma, ever. I know too well what it feels like to lose your partner. I wouldn't go through that again and believe me, you don't want to either. I know he was your Alpha and I feel how painful this is for you. But we can't go back. The bond between the three of us is strong and unique. I don't regret anything, neither for having marked Emma when I knew you were her companion, nor for having marked you in your turn.
-I don't regret anything either.
- I suspect it, but if we don't do anything, he'll end up killing us by playing on our weaknesses.
I'm listening, what do you suggest?
- We must go. Finding out where he's holding her is our priority. Then, depending on the location, we will advise. I doubt he's alone.
- OK, I said, knowing full well that we have no other choice anyway.
We can't let her lose her sister. The last member of his family. Dorian moves a little closer, pulling us both against him before hugging us. He's truly remarkable, he manages to handle it all with so much more calm than I am capable of. I close my eyes, resting my head on his shoulder.
Of course I don't regret anything, how could I regret having finally found these two beings who will share my life until the end of my days.
- We're packing everything up, we should be leaving in an hour, he said softly.
So we gather all our belongings in total silence. Each of us accepts what has just happened, realizes that by leaving here we are all putting ourselves in danger while knowing full well that in any case, we cannot do otherwise.
Less than an hour later, we are ready, the car is loaded. As we close the door behind us, Emma takes a deep breath before telling us,
- Who cares what's going to happen there. Swear to me that afterward, the three of us will leave again. We will replace our house and we will spend the rest of our days there.
I approach her at the same time as Dorian, she is more worried about us than about herself even though we are much more able to defend ourselves than she is. I kiss him tenderly and when I leave his lips, it is only to let Dorian take possession of them. - Afterwards, my darling, we will do whatever you want. We'll go wherever you want, as long as there are three of us, that's all that matters.
He's right, we'll go wherever she wants, but first we have to go and save this sister who didn't make a good impression on me the last time I met her. Dorian gets on his motorbike while this time I'm the one driving the car. We need to go to his business first, from there I hope we can track her, replace out where Steeven took him.
Minutes seem like hours that don't even seem to want to pass. I almost regret that we went this far. Emma watches the landscape pass by, silent. I can feel this strange mix of emotions bubbling inside her, she's worried to death for her sister, but there's also this anger, this rage that's just waiting to overwhelm her. I can't tell her anything, I'm no better than her. I didn't think I was going to confront him but Dorian is right. It's him or us. Dorian's POV
We've been gone for a little over an hour when I feel something that makes me turn my head towards the forest we border. I'm less comfortable wearing my helmet to smell odors, but on the other hand, my instinct never deceives me.
Immediately, I feel that Jason also saw it, Wolves, a whole group rushing in our direction. If we had been on the highway between the power of my motorcycle and that of Emma's car, we would have had no trouble losing them, but on these small mountainous country roads, it is impossible.
This Alpha is such an a*****e, but a well-informed one for replaceing us so quickly while he was on the phone with Emma just a few hours ago. Suddenly, the car suddenly brakes before swerving into the road. I brake in turn, stopping a few centimeters from them and that's when I see them. About twenty Wolves blocking our way.
This time, he didn't do things by halves, he sent a lot more, our last face to face with his guard made him understand that we were much stronger than he had imagined. Jason is beside himself, on our right a ravine, on the left a forest, we can't escape and I see him getting out of the car as I take off my helmet.
- Seriously, said Jason, is this how you want it to happen? Wolves, against Wolves?
That's when he comes out of the forest, this unscrupulous Alpha.
- You know this is all your fault Jason. You should have come to see me. You should have told me about this before you acted without thinking. You should have understood that this alliance between you was impossible under these conditions. If you had done things correctly, if you had respected the respective rules of your packs, everything could have been different. But now there's no turning back. You signed your death warrant the moment he killed your guards on our lands.
- Do you think that can justify attacking a human, keeping her hostage to make us bend to your will?
- The end justifies the means and because of you, war threatens us, so I don't have time to drag things out. The pack needs me and I need to replace a new Beta.
- Where is she? Where is Emma's sister?
--Not far, under guard.
I focus on Emma who is still in the car. She must prepare to leave the premises quickly. She turns her head towards me and gets into the driver's seat. She has no desire to leave without us but she is too exposed and I didn't think we could come across so many Wolves at the same time. --Accept your punishment and no harm will come to him.
He already knows that we won't surrender and Jason doesn't even bother to answer him, he lets his Wolf take the upper hand while and Alpha smiles in an almost cruel way before adding, - You won't be a match,
we is more numerous and above all, this time, I came myself.
Who does he think he is? He believes his status makes him all-powerful? He thinks he's the strongest Wolf there is? I approach Jason who automatically sticks to me.
- Do you think I'm going to let you take them off me? Do you think you're up to the task when to face us you have to put together such a team? Honestly, I certainly didn't have the best Alpha ever, but at least he doesn't send others to get their hands dirty for him. - You're right, he prefers to declare a war because you're sending my Alpha.
- So you didn't understand anything? He's not declaring war on you because of me, I'm just a pretext, if it hadn't been me, it would have been for something else. His hatred towards your people is limitless. But, he will never take the risk of confronting me directly, ever, I said, letting my Wolf's eyes appear. And you should have done the same.
In my turn, my Wolf reveals himself. He rubs his head against Jason's as this Alpha shows himself in his true light. In a fraction of seconds, the sound of our grunts mixes, rises, making the forest and its inhabitants react. The animals start to flee, they sense this grouping of predators and as soon as the first one moves, I jump at its throat, crushing it before throwing it at the foot of its Alpha. If he thinks we're going to let this happen, he's seriously mistaken.
His gaze falls on me. Full of hatred. I got his attention and I hope that's enough so Jason doesn't have to confront him directly. So that he doesn't see this childhood friend take his last breath when I'm done with him. Emma is ready to leave as soon as I tell her. Now it's up to us to play and give him back his sister.
