A Kiss For Your Freedom -
Chapter 44
Ophélie's
POV
simple call that doesn't come.
I walk around in circles in her office. Its smell is everywhere, on every piece of furniture, in every corner of this house. Everywhere I move, I just feel like I'm in a little more pain. I rage as I sweep away everything on this desk. It's as if I'm helpless, dependent on a But what does he do? Why is it taking him so long?
And finally, as I let out a cry of frustration, that damn ringtone finally goes off. I take it out of my pocket and answer immediately.
- My daughter, how are you?
- I'll feel better when you tell me you found it.
- I haven't found him, but I have just started several groups on his trail. I am starting this step in the business of human sound. His sister has already dealt with Steeven, I'm going to take the opportunity to see if she has any information on them. All I can tell you is that he quit his job and she emptied all those bank accounts. They are about to disappear if they haven't already. I was thinking of using their cars' GPS to replace them, but they changed models to a much older one. We'll replace them, it'll just take a little time. - What do I do while I wait?
- I have nothing against some reinforcements. You know as much as I do what Dorian is capable of when he's cornered.
-Okay, I'll send you some Wolves and I'll go with them.
- You should wait and not leave your pack. All they have left is you.
- I will be replaced quickly. I plan to be there when he realizes he lost.
--As you wish. But it's a bad idea.
- That's for me to judge. Thank you for everything.
He hangs up without even answering me. I know he doesn't approve of my need for revenge, but I also know he would have done the same thing if it were my mother. I close my eyes as I put the phone down. My days are numbered here. The whole pack knows it. A Luna cannot lead without her Alpha and a Luna can only have one and only Alpha. In a few weeks, at worst a few months, a new Alpha will arrive and I will be kicked out of the pack.
So before that happens, before I lose what little influence I have left, I intend to use them to achieve my own goals. They want their dead as much as I do so we might as well join forces.
I bring in the most powerful Wolves of the pack, those who are still left. We will leave at nightfall, I give them the rest of the day with their family, it's always more than I would have. POV Eléa
My whole world is falling apart. What she did, what they did. I was left puking my guts out on the floor for at least two hours before I could move and it took me two more to replace the right person who could take care of this problem. Fortunately I have a rather wide range of relationships and after distributing a few big tickets, I at least managed to get rid of the bodies. But that only leads me to the next one for which I no longer have a solution.
I don't know what to do and although it's not late, I squeeze another drink sitting in the dark, in my living room. When I hear a knock on the door I jump, clutching my bottle a little tighter to me. If it was the police, or even worse, if they came back to kill me this time. New shots ring out. I stand up shakily and look through the peephole to discover a man who is completely unknown to me. Tall, massive, in his early fifties. I doubt it's a delivery man or a cop and opens the door while keeping the chain hanging as final protection.
"Who are you?" I said, looking at him from head to toe.
- A future friend, I hope. In any case, a friend precious enough for me to ignore the massacre that took place here.
I tense at the evocation of this memory that I would prefer to erase from my memory forever.
- I don't know at all what you're talking about. You must have had the wrong address, it happens all the time, I said, trying to close the door.
But he puts his hand on it and with a simple push the chain shatters.
- My apologies, in ordinary times I would be more courteous but unfortunately I am in a hurry. Steeven is dead, but you must suspect it since your sister is not here.
I look at him more than surprised by these words. How does he know all this?
- He and I were not very close and I must say that his death does not affect me, however, as far as my daughter is concerned it is something else. Let's say she was as tied to him as your sister was to those two Wolves.
- You see, I'm sorry for her, but I don't really see what you're doing there.
- Do you know where your sister has gone?
- No idea, they left as soon as they were done here. I don't know where they are.
- She emptied all those bank accounts, changed cars. She is preparing to flee and this time she will not come back.
- I can not do anything about it. I thought they were going to kill me and if they weren't stupid. They will have gotten rid of their cell phones this time.
--I don't doubt that for a second. Your company has money problems, correct?
- Way too much for me to get through this time.
- Nothing is never lost. At times, we just need to grab the hand that is extended to us.
I'm not sure I understand what he means but I sit down in front of this man and offer him a place at my table. He might have interesting things to tell me. Maybe all is not yet lost.
Jason's POV
The sun hasn't risen yet and yet, all three of us are ready for the start of this new adventure. Emma really took care of everything. She managed to buy the house while spending a few more bills to speed things up. She sold her old car for a 4X4 in which we managed to fit everything. Dorian keeps his motorbike, we know that we are going to spend the day on the road and we have already planned the places where we will stop.
Everything is ready and when he closes the door behind him, I see him close his eyes while I feel that he was attached to this place. We both replace him by taking him in our arms.
After one last kiss, I take the wheel and we hit the road. Little by little we move away from this life which is no longer ours. The landscape flies by while she has her hand on my thigh. It alternates between sleep and waking periods. It must be said that she put a lot of energy into this project. As planned, we stop regularly and even if she protests, I don't let her drive, she needs to rest, much more than me.
We arrive at the end of the day, a little before the sun sets. A woman of a certain age is waiting for us and even before going downstairs, I know that she is a Wolf. We go to meet her, Dorian and I are a little on our guard but she smiles at us before telling us, - I must say that I didn't expect this house to remain in the hands of Wolves, but it's a good thing, she said, observing our respective marks. Young people need space, don't they?
- We can say that yes, I said, observing him in turn.
- I am happy to know that this place will have the right to a second life. My Wolf and I were very happy there, I hope that this house will bring you as much joy and pleasure as it does us.
- Thank you very much, Emma replies, smiling. We are sorry to have made you move at this time.
- Don't worry, young lady. I may be old, but I can still get around. Let's sign the last papers so that this land belongs to you definitively.
She takes out some papers which she places on the hood of the car and Emma countersigns each sheet before keeping a copy. Ten minutes later, we are at home while the former owner smiles at us, wiping a tear that rolls down her cheek wrinkled by the years. Emma smiles back at him as she slowly walks away from us.
We turn back towards the house. She has already lived well but she seems resistant and it is hand in hand that we move forward to discover her. We follow a small path that takes us up the hill and as soon as we reach the top, Emma rushes to open the door. I love seeing her so smiling, excited about a new adventure. We quickly enter behind her to discover our new house. Simple and yet perfect for us. The bedroom is large and the kitchen opens onto a bright living room. There is a large fireplace as well as a solid wood worktop which demarcates the areas. It's a lovely house, a house I'm sure we'll be happy in.
- You saw, she declares, turning towards Dorian while she is facing the window. There's a nice outbuilding next door, I'm sure you could make a new workshop there. We're going to need a little more furniture and I don't think we can get it delivered here, she said, smiling.
- You think of everything, my dear, as always, he replies, going to take her in his arms. We're going to be good here, he said a little lower. Alright.
I walk over and put my arms around them. He is right. We will be really happy here. Emma's POV
We spent our first night in camping mode. When we finished emptying the whole car, night had already fallen and I must say that between the road and the excitement of arriving here, we just had the courage to get out of the big blankets on which we lying against each other before falling asleep.
I stretch slowly before extricating myself from Logan's embrace. I walk towards the window to discover this magnificent landscape, these trees stretching as far as the eye can see. I feel myself smiling as the sun caresses my face through the window. It is so nice. I can't wait to see what surprises this place has in store for us.
When I turn around, I take the time to look at them, in each other's arms. Until recently, if someone had told me that I would have found myself in the middle of nowhere with two men, I certainly would not have believed it, but now that I am here, I wonder how I could have do to live without them.
