A Kiss For Your Freedom -
Chapter 53
POV Jason
Dorian goes back into the kitchen leaving us alone. Emma comes to snuggle into my arms, sighing with contentment as her fingers intertwine with mine. I close my eyes for a short moment, savoring this contact with her. In a few minutes, I'll have to deal with these lifeless bodies outside, but for now, I just want to enjoy it a little more. "Tell me everything is going to be okay," she said softly.
I'm not sure I can confirm this to him, but I don't want to tell him that everything is lost either. That there is no more hope.
- Don't worry love, we'll kick the a*s of anyone who dares to come near our land, I said before kissing his cheek.
- I believe you, she said, turning her head towards me and smiling.
She runs her hands over my arms slowly and her caress immediately makes my heart beat a little faster, I can't promise her anything, they might come in droves and yet all I want is for her not to be afraid. I want her to feel good in my arms, to believe in the truth of my words even if deep down, she knows very well that everything I tell her is only illusory, because nothing cannot guarantee our safety. Even if you reactivate the traps, there won't be enough, not enough for an army.
We could capitulate right away. We could abandon our hopes there, but what's the point? What's the point of devastating everything when you can still feel so much pleasure and love because that's what it's all about. A bond so strong that it almost makes us forget everything else, all these enemies who will eventually rise up before us to avenge the bodies that litter our territory.
At this point, she moves slowly, taking care not to press against her injured leg. Her back presses against my chest as she gazes outwards, ignoring whatever is soiling our floor.
- It's a magnificent setting, she said, intertwining her fingers with mine.
- It's true but you remain much more beautiful, love.
--As if you could be objective, she replies, laughing.
- Of course I am, you can't imagine what I saw, I said firmly.
- Like who Dorian? Because I saw it too and it's clear that it's worth all these landscapes. I guarantee you, however it's different here, the feeling I get when we're here, it's almost as if we were in our place, far from everything and at the same time so close to each other.
- In a way you're right and yet a part of me tells me that ultimately it doesn't matter where we are, as long as there are three of us, it doesn't really matter.
- You think? However, I have the impression of being at home here. It's strange, I come from the city, have always lived surrounded by noise and yet, here, I feel good, as if in the middle of you two, in this place, I could imagine something else. A future, something different.
- What are you talking about love?
- From a family. I lost everything, my parents died a long time ago and I'm going to move on to the episode of my sister who is ready to betray me for a yes or a no, especially when there are tickets up for grabs.. My only family now is you two and here I'm thinking that maybe we could expand our family.
I tense slightly as I understand these words, I know what she is trying to tell me and it's crazy how suddenly my Wolf gets agitated at the same time as my heart beats ever faster.
-You're talking about having children, love, aren't you?
- I'm talking about really building something between the three of us and for that, you and Dorian are going to have to break the ice once and for all.
- I think we both more than broke the ice, I said, kissing his forehead.
- You can say what you want, I know what I feel and I can tell you that that's not breaking the ice, my heart. You love him as much as me as he loves you as much as he can love me and yet you always seem to be reserved as if each of your gestures, each of your attentions had to be discreet, at least outside of a bed. Look at us now, you wish you could do it with him too and yet you don't.
- We are progressing little by little. We each take a step in the direction of the other. ; It's just a little harder than with you.
- For what? Because you are men?
- Rather because of what we are, what we are, love. In our respective packs, we both had important positions, roles to play which we opposed for a long time. I love Dorian, as I love you and I know he does too. We just need a little more time for this to become normal.
- I think I understand what you mean, she said stroking my arm and I know that when you are ready, then it will be the right time for the three of us to build the future and here, it would be a beautiful place for that.
I hold her a little tighter against me as Dorian comes back to us. The parenthesis is over, I know it, we must get rid of all these bodies before their odors attract opportunistic scavengers.
Do you need anything before we take care of the rest?
"It's going to be okay," she said, smiling. Go for it. I'll try to get some sleep.
I get up, quickly kissing his forehead, and we leave the house to face the carnage outside. I sigh at this spectacle which only reassures me that all this is not over.
Loïc's POV
Ma Luna collapsed feeling her heart break. I immediately understood what had happened and I could do nothing but take her in my arms and hold her close to me. Each of those tears felt as painful as a stab to the heart and yet I stayed until his body was too much. She ended up falling asleep, still experiencing uncontrollable spasms. So I put him in our bed and after looking at him for a few minutes, I left the room to go to my office.
I knew it was a bad idea. I knew Dorian was too strong for her, but I couldn't deprive her of her revenge, I couldn't force her to stay at home and continue to languish in her pain without trying to act.
My only child, my only daughter is no more and by now, her pack must already be in disarray to know who will take their place. I sink into my chair as my Beta will soon come to join me.
I can't let this go, my Luna wouldn't forgive me and yet, I don't want to measure myself against him, I don't want to go to war with this Wolf that I've known for so long. I curse by sweeping everything off my desk. She should have listened to me, she could have come back here to us, the pack would have welcomed her but now, I no longer have a choice and to be able to avenge her, I will put the lives of mine at stake because I know that if we go to war, Dorian and his companion will do everything to defend themselves, to protect this human who is the cause of all this.
Her sister gave me all the information I wanted about her but that doesn't really help me. In the end, she knew nothing about this relationship between these three, she ignored everything, even the fact that they were Wolves. I thought they were closer than that, but obviously, these money problems took him away from her little by little, until she ended up only seeing her as a solution to her problem. All I learned and which could still be useful to me is that she has a friend, a friend who is very important to her, perhaps enough to become a means of pressure although I don't I'm not totally sure.
I sigh a little louder, torn between frustration and anger. There is no good solution, there are only difficult choices to make, which in any case will leave neither side unscathed.
When I think I thought he was dead. When I think that just a few days ago he was nothing more than a vague memory, a vestige of a past full of battles fought side by side. And today, we are enemies.
My daughter died because of him, because of that human, because of that Beta. Although I never wanted it to come to this, when my Beta comes in, I already know what order I'm going to give. I close my eyes for a short moment, the pain that crosses my heart is such that I know that I could do nothing but avenge her.
I'm going to have to face it and this time, nothing can stop it.
POV Dorian
With Jason we gather the bodies in a single point. It takes us forever, especially since we stop regularly to check if Emma is okay. But at the beginning of the afternoon, we completed this task. All we have to do now is get rid of them.
- I opt for fire, said Jason, wiping his forehead. There's no way I'm having fun digging a pit.
- I tend to agree even if it won't go unnoticed.
- For the moment, we still have a little time before they reach us. He will come for revenge, that's for sure, but we have put enough distance between us so that despite his power, he will take a little time to get here.
- I know and anyway, I don't plan to dig a grave either, we have many other things to do.
- I'll get what I need, he said as he left after kissing my cheek.
As I watch him walk away, I let my fingers slide to where he just placed those lips, closing my eyes. I'm going to have to act quickly, enough so that none of them realize anything because if they were to understand what I plan to do, they would stop me.
I sigh, opening my eyes and looking around me. It's so beautiful here, so peaceful, the perfect place to build a life, to create a future. My heart aches, I have to protect them and even if I am not part of their future, the main thing is that they can have one.
