Chapter 1002
To be honest, Patrick was ready for the worst case scenario when he left with Sean.
John did save Cordy with his life, and if he asked, there was every chance Cordy would break downand throw herself into his arms.
Thus, Patrick was surprised Cordy was so determined to reject John. In fact, she refused to listen toany of John’s explanations and remained determined to reject his advances even after he admitted thathe had regained his memories.
Did she not love him anymore? Or did she love him too much and was afraid to get hurt again?
At the same time, Cordy wiped away her tears ever so subtly.
There was just no controlling it when your heart hurt so much.
However, she will slowly change that from now on, and slowly forget how she felt towards John Levine.
’I’m sorry,” she suddenly told Patrick.
Patrick’s heart skipped an anxious beat.
She obviously rejected John just now, but was she already regretting it?
Did that mean his happiness only lasted for…minutes?
He stared at Cordy, afraid to even breathe too loudly or say another word. Great despair overwhelmedhim all over a sudden.
However, Cordy smiled. ’If you can give me time, I swear I’ll never cry for other men ever again.”
Patrick froze, realizing right then that he had misunderstood Cordy.
She was just apologizing-not breaking up with him.
’Are you upset?” Cordy asked with a faint smile, since he wasn’t responding.
’No, I just thought…” Patrick’s eyes were a little moist, and he was greatly overwhelmed. “Cordy, I’ll doright by you-more than he ever could.”
’I know.”
’I tried to reach you during the fire, but someone knocked me out, so I couldn’t save you,” Patrickrambled as he explained. “And then your dear cousin just had to stop me, or I would’ve tried to saveyou, instead of letting John…”
“Yeah, I know,” Cordy said, nodding.
She was aware that Patrick would never abandon her. Plus, since Nana was prepared to go that far, that woman would definitely cover every corner.
Still, Patrick’s tone turned solemn. “I don’t mind it, Cordy, but I want to ask… ■
As he trailed off in hesitation, Cordy saw through him and said, “You’re trying to ask how I could breakup with John so thoroughly?”
Patrick’s gaze darkened, and he was clearly a little dejected. “Look, it’s not like I mind it, but I just don’tget it. John knows how much he loves you now that he’s regained his memories, and he even savedyou from the fire. You should’ve chosen him, even if it was just gratitude from that gesture… Or do youfeel guilty towards me?”
’No,” Cordy denied it right away. “It has nothing to do with you. It’s over between him and me, even ifI’m not with you.”
’Don’t you replace that a pity?”
“Before this, yes… To be precise, I felt that way before I learned that he remembered his past. Afterthat, I don’t replace it a pity at all.”
Patrick was obviously confused, so Cordy patiently explained, “If he never remembered, I’d alwaysthink that giving up on him before he could gain his memories would be unfair to him. Despite that, Igave up on him anyway, since all it means is that we’re just not meant to be. But now that he’sremembered everything, it’s not unfair anymore. I no longer carry any attachments towards him.”
“You already fell out of love for him?” Patrick asked carefully.
’No.’ Cordy shook her head.
Patrick felt a little stressed, but this was within expectations-no one got over a breakup that quickly.
And if Cordy was that casual about relationships, he wouldn’t have loved her to bits.
“Now that he remembers, he knows all too well what I’m like-that I meant it when I said I’m leavinghim,” Cordy continued. “But in the end, he still chose to face everything all alone. Since he wants topush me away, I’m just going to let him have his wish.”
“But what if he really has his own predicaments? You know the Lynds are no angels,” Patrick said, ableto see things clearly despite being a rival to John.
’Like I said, he knows me,” Cordy repeated. “When he chose to face everything himself, he would’vebeen prepared that I’d leave him.”
