Chapter 581
Cordy did a double take, realizing belatedly that her entire body was still leaning on Lucas and herarms were wrapped firmly around his waist.
She quickly let go of him and straightened herself, explaining hastily as she did so, “That was just anaccident.”
Lucas sneered, clearly skeptical.
However, he didn’t say much, perhaps out of respect for Maron.
Nonetheless, Cordy was indignant with his reaction.
How self-important could he get? Did he think every woman was eager to throw themselves at him?
Cordy shifted her body as far away as possible from him, but Lucas reminded her anyway, “You shouldput on your seatbelt for safety’s sake.”
Cordy took a deep breath, and told herself not to get upset.
She naturally knew that Lucas wasn’t that nice, and was just worried that she would have an excuse tothrow herself on him.
She gritted her teeth as she forcefully put on her seatbelt.
Soon, the car arrived at the restaurant.
Maron loved jalapenos recipes, and his preference for spicy food was curious for a foreigner.
Since they had called ahead, everything was ready as they headed inside their private room.
They took their seats; Lucas deliberately picked a spot far from Cordy, clearly very wary and prejudicedagainst her.
Cordy was never one who got nitpicky, but Lucas’s deliberate avoidance still left her a little upset.
However, she bore with it and focused all her attention on her conversation with Maron, wholeheartedlyignoring Lucas’s presence.
“I’ve been saying that Minerva’s jalapenos just don’t taste the same as Zidonia’s.” Maron was full ofpraise even as he ate. “Don’t you agree, Lucas?”
“Yeah,” Lucas replied as he ate in silence, but he too was eating a lot.
Cordy didn’t want to observe how much food he was wolfing down, but he almost finished the plate ofjalapeno poppers while she had only begun to eat.
“By the way, Lovely,” Maron said to her. “Lucas is planning to expand his ecommerce business here inthe capital. He’s half Zidonian, but his father migrated some twenty years ago. He doesn’t know anyonehere, so try to help him out in his business. We’ve been friends for years, so I can vouch for him.”
“I’ll do my best to help if there’s any assistance you need, Mr. Lynch,” Cordy said politely-she certainlywouldn’t reject Maron. Years of experience had taught her business conversation.
Nonetheless, Lucas rejected her without hesitation. ‘No, it’s fine. I’ll manage my business on my own-lwon’t impose on Miss Sachs.”
“You might not be aware, but connections are vital in Zidonia. Without them, you won’t even make itthrough the front door,” Maron explained.
It was common knowledge that this was a place governed by sentiment, and there were times thatpeople would refuse making money just to spite a person.
