Meanwhile, Cordy made her way toward Jay and sat with him, since she thought better of him incomparison to the others.

Jay greeted her in turn, and they both made small talk.

When his phone rang and he got to his feet, Cordy quickly moved to help him.

“I’m alright, thanks.” Jay turned herdown politely, and limped on his crutch to another corner.

Although his life was saved thanks to the treatment abroad, his right leg was still crippled after thataccident.

Though it was fortunate that no limbs needed to be amputated, he was still denied a normal life.

He returned to Cordy after answering his call, and she did not ask who it was-they were not that close.

Still, Jay asked casually, “Do you usually watch variety shows?”

“Why?’ Cordy asked in surprise.

“I’ve just received a notice that North City Channel is planning to organize this variety show calledActors on Set. Actors and actresses would be invited, and I was invited as a judge too-their productionteam just called, but I’m hesitant.”

“North City TV’s variety shows are quality-assured,” Cordy said shortly.

It was during one such variety show that saw her shooting to fame and opened a new chapter to hercareer.

In fact, over the last few years, North City TV’s variety shows were wildly popular and basicallydominating the scene.

“If you have the time, I think you can take part as well—if you’re willing, of course. In the end, thevariety show means plenty of programs, and you can check if the arrangements are acceptable to youbeforehand,” Cordy said what she thought then.

“I have only one film planned for release next spring, and it’s still in pre- production at the moment.Production proper would just take a couple months, but I was wondering if I should free up myschedule for the rest of the year, and I don’t think I want to get involved in film or drama series.”

“It’s not like you cant use the variety show to select actors and actresses for your planned projects.’

Jay smiled. ’You’re really smart.”

Cordy was always able to read his mind.

She smiled in turn. “Not really-you’re just that terrible with hiding your thoughts. It’s written all over yourface.”

Even so, she had no idea how he was able to hide his feelings for Zoe over all those years.

“Uncle Jay,” Cora suddenly joined them, asking, “Did the production team ask you to be the judge forActors on Set?”

“You were invited too?” Jay asked.

“My manager just called me a couple days ago about it. I’ll be a guest and would have a role in a liveskit.”

“You said yes?”

“Well, my manager told me that it’s North City TV’s flagship program and accepted it since it’d definitelysell. It would be great if you go—I’d be less tense,’ Cora said earnestly. 1

“I’m still thinking about it,” Jay said bluntly.

“I see.” Cora did not press the issue since she was just asking in passing.

After that, she returned to Nancy’s side to play with Richard.

And when Cora was gone, Cordy said flatly, “You’re quite nice to her.”

“Yeah,” Jay replied without explaining himself.

One might even say that Jay was the one who assisted Cora in her rise to stardom-he was the directorof the film where she had her breakout role and honed her acting ability from the ground up. Not onlywas that film a profound commercial success, but Cora was immediately nominated for best actress forher role too. Though she did not win, her popularity and rising stardom was far beyond the winningactress’.

And now, Cora is an A-lister with endless resources at her disposal.

Cordy, however, would always compare Cora to Zoe, since Zoe never had the privilege of the family’sinfluence in her showbiz career. Then, after she went through so much difficulty to build something forherself, the Levines ruthlessly destroyed it.

And where had she been over the last three years?

Was she really so intent on leaving without coming back? To sever ties with everyone here?!
