"Zoe," Jay suddenly called out to her.

"Yes?"

"Should we...try it out?" Jay asked.

Zoe's heart leapt, and she instinctively tightened her grip over Jay's wheelchair handles.

"I meant, try dating," Jay clarified himself.

He said it in a very small voice, but Zoe heard it.

His voice sounded clearly in her ears.

And then, it lingered on.

The air turned awkward at once.

Jay clenched his fists involuntarily.

Was he being too forward?

Zoe had long lost all feelings for him.

If it were not because of family issues, Zoe and Bob would already have...

The thought that Zoe and Bob used to date each other made Jay feel like a huge stone rolled over his heart. It hurt so much that he almost could not breathe.

He said, "Zoe, I'll do my best to be a good husband and father. Shall we start anew?"

He always thought that he could keep his feelings for Zoe under control.

He had been able to watch Zoe and Bob get together and give them his blessings, even though his heart was aching and bleeding.

But now, he did not think he was capable of doing that.

The mere thought of Zoe leaving him or perhaps being with another man drove him wild with jealousy.

He could not even guarantee that he could stop himself from hurting someone if Zoe were to leave him once more.

Rather than torturing himself and suppressing his true desires, he would rather fight for himself just this once. Perhaps... perhaps, he might succeed!

But Zoe never gave her response.

Jay's heart, which was originally beating furiously, suddenly calmed down...

He had overestimated himself.

Having hurt Zoe for so many years, how could Zoe possibly change her mind with just one word from him?

He was about to speak when he suddenly heard Zoe respond.

"Yes."

'Huh?!'

Jay's heart rate quickened again.

If this went on, he might die from a heart attack.

He was overjoyed, but he did not dare to overreact.

In fact, sorrow started seeping through his joy.

Did Zoe say yes because she was truly agreeable, or was it a perfunctory response or simply a casual remark? Jay was in a daze.

He wanted Zoe to confirm what she said, but he did not know how to ask.

Just when Jay was on the brink of internal collapse, Zoe said again, "Yes, let's start anew."

Jay's heart almost stopped beating.

His body went stiff, as if he was in huge shock.

He turned to look at Zoe.

Zoe furrowed her brows.

What kind of expression was that on Jay's face?

She had agreed to him.

Yet, was he upset?

Was he playing her for a fool?

"If that was just a passing remark, forget that I said yes." Zoe's face fell.

She really should not hold out any hope for Jay.

"I was serious, even more serious than your teacher in school," Jay immediately said.

He was so serious he lost all control over his facial expressions.

He really wanted to laugh.

But he was afraid that he might end up laughing like a big, bad wolf.

Yet, his unsmiling face probably made him look like a grumpy old man!

Zoe was tickled by the anxious look on Jay's face.
