Chapter 202

The Clara family couldn't function without Anthony. The rest of the family had more ambition than ability, and without him, they would fall apart quickly.

William looked at Ethan earnestly. "Dr. Zimmer, you must cure my grandson. Please."

Ethan felt troubled. Anthony was his friend, and it pained him to see him in such a state. " worry before Anthony recovers," he replied, trying to offer some reassurance.

"Mr. Clara, don't worry. It won't help if you fall ill from

"What are his chances of survival if he gets the surgery now?" William asked.

Ethan sighed. "He's suffering from severe heart failure. An operation won't do much good unless he gets a brand-new heart."

Then get him a new heart, William concluded, tapping his cane on the floor for emphasis.

"Receiving a heart transplant is demanding on one's health and condition, Ethan explained. "Moreover, I don't know how long it will take to replace a suitable donor. Anthony may not be able to wait that long." "Then give him my heart, William said.

Elan frowned. "Mr. William Clara, I understand you're anxious, but your heart isn't suitable for him."

"Then we'll buy one. I don't care if it costs hundreds of millions of dollars," William replied, panic creeping into his voice. He was willing to do anything to save Anthony.

Ethan quickly dissuaded him. "It's illegal to buy and sell organs. But don't lose hope yet. When I was studying medicine, my teacher told me about a doctor at the border who has miraculous skilk. If we can replace this doctor, perhaps we can save Anthony"

"Let's waste no time. We'll fly to the border immediately," William commanded, signaling his subordinates to pack.

Just then, Anthony, who had been unconscious, woke up and stopped William. 'Grandpa, I can't leave. Some in the family already suspect I'm sick. but they have no proof. If I leave now, it will confirm their suspicions, and they'll surely take action.

William halted, his cane slipping from his grasp and hitting the floor with a thud. He sighed regretfully, "It's all my fault. If I hadn't been indecisive, the Clara family wouldn't be in this situation. He returned to Anthony's bedside and sat down. "Your condition can't wait. You must leave as soon as possible. I still have the authority to hold them back for a while. Turning to Ethan, William added politely, "Dr. Zimmer, the situation at the border is uncertain. I have an unreasonable request: I hope you can tag along to monitor Anthony's condition. I'll ensure someone is assigned to protect

you."

Ethan was about to agree when Anthony interjected firmly, "No, don't involve him. It's okay if we're just visiting a doctor, but other branches of the family might scheme against us. We can't risk putting unrelated people in danger."

William closed his eyes, visibly distressed. I'm concerned for your health. Plus, I'll arrange more people to accompany you "Grandpa, I've made my decision. If you want me to see the doctor, please don't say anything more," Anthony replied firmly.

William sighed heavily. "Dr. Zimmer, please prescribe some emergency medication for him"

"Of course," Ethan replied, accepting Anthony's decision not to involve him further. He proceeded to open the medical kit, carefully selected the necessary medications, packed them into bags, and wrote down detailed instructions.

To avoid attracting attention, Anthony had Ethan lie in his bed and pretend to be him, hoping to deceive anyone who might be watching and buy them some time. With a few trusted people accompanying him, Anthony left quietly by plane overnight.

A sinister undercurrent lurked that night

The next morning, just before dawn, Cynthia woke up in Serene Residence wondering if Liam had a good night's sleep. Quietly slipping out of bed, she tiptoed to the window and glanced into the yard. Evan, who had been sitting by the door earlier, was no longer there, likely having retired to his room. Her eyes lit up, and she gently pushed open her bedroom door and made her way to the kitchen. Unsure if Evan would prepare breakfast for Liam, she decided to make something herself and deliver it to him while everyone else was still asleep. Knowing Liam had been severely car-sick and had no appetite the previous day, Cynthia assumed he must be hungry and spent ten minutes preparing a simple breakfast. She then packed it neatly into a container and headed straight for the pickup truck.

The su

sun was just beginning to rise on the horizon, casting a soft glow across the landscape.

Cynthia approached the pickup truck and gently opened the door to see Liam leaning back in the seat, sleeping soundly. The slight creak of the door didn't stir him, a sign that he hadn't slept well the night before. Cynthia hesitated to disturb his rest. Silently, she settled beside him, placing the food aside, and quietly admired his handsome features.

A few minutes later, Liam furrowed his brow before slowly opening his eyes. When he spotted Cynthia, his complexion appeared paler than usual as he asked in a low, hoarse voice. "What are you doing here?"_

Cynthia immediately sensed something was amiss. She had never seen Liam wear this expression before. "Are you all right?" She touched his forehead to check for a fever, but his temperature was normal. Next, she checked his pulse, replaceing it steady and normal.

Looking at Cynthia's concerned expression. Liam smiled reassuringly and said, "Tm okay. I think it's just a combination of adjusting to the climate here and recovering from the car sickness. I was pretty sick last night. I threw up two times. Despite the severe vomiting, he felt no other discomfort; his weakness was simply due to not replenishing his energy afterward.

orry for him. "T

Cynthia had just checked Liam's pulse and confirmed he was physically fine, but she was still concerned. Frowning slightly, she felt sorry made you some food. Please eat a bit. As she opened the container, the food's aroma spread into the air.

Liam's pallor worsened as the scent reached him. He fought to suppress his discomfort to not worry Cynthia.

Cynthia blew on the spoonful of food to cool it down before feeding Liam. Liam pursed his lips into a thin line as his stomach heaved, but the harder he tried to suppress it, the more intense his nausea became. Eventually, he couldn't help clasping his hand over his mouth and exiting the truck. Squatting by the roadside, he retched intensely.

Cynthia quickly set down the food and rushed out of the truck, patting Liam's back to ease his discomfort. Observing him closely, she frowned, sensing that his condition wasn't simply due to carsickness or the climate. Once he recovered, she asked solemnly, "Did you eat anything yesterday?"

Liam straightened up and leaned against the truck, his posture slightly bent from weakness. His shirt was wrinkled, and he appeared disheveled, a stark contrast to his usual poised demeanor as a business elite. After a moment's contemplation, he responded, "Master Garten poured me a cup of

coffice."

"Master Garten poured coffee for your Cynthia asked.

"Yeah," Liam replied.

Realization dawned on Cynthia as she mused, 'No wonder I couldn't detect anything wrong from Liam's pulse. I was wondering why Master Buckley reacted so strongly when Master Garten remained composed. Turns out he has poisoned Liam. But why? Apart from inducing vomiting. the poison hadn't caused any other harm to his body
