A Night's Mistake: The Besotted CEO's Obsession -
Chapter 402
Queena spoke up tentatively, "I was just saying that I want to get into show business."
Her declaration was met with an immediate hush in the courtyard. Everyone there knew how strongly Vincent felt about Queena's aspirations to be an actress, and they all watched for his reaction.
To their surprise, instead of the anticipated anger, Vincent's face fell, but he gave a slight nod.
"Fine. I agree you can pursue acting."
What? He just gave his consent.
Queena was at a loss; something she'd been fighting for seemed to be handed to her without a fight.
After a moment of shock, she leaped up, aiming to hug Vincent. "Vincent, I love you so much."
"Whoa, don't get ahead of yourself. I'm not done," Vincent said, holding Queena back.
"Alright, go on," Queena urged, her smile as bright as ever.
Then Vincent continued, "I could support you for life without you ever working. But since you're set on this and you're grown up, I won't stand in your way. However, there's a condition: I won't be giving you any more money. To keep you from getting taken advantage of, you can use the connections of the Yearwood family, and you can live at home, but that's all."
The smile on Queena's face wavered for a moment, but she nodded confidently after a beat. "Deal. I accept."
Mila and Cynthia exchanged worried glances. Queena had been sheltered and didn't know the harsh realities of the world.
Now, with her allowance cut, the acting world, where newcomers rarely make much, would be a tough challenge for a lady used to comfort and privilege. Vincent let out a heavy sigh, clearly frustrated. He'd hoped the threat of cutting off her money would dissuade her, but she'd agreed without hesitation. "Don't say I didn't warn you," Vincent muttered before heading inside.
"I won't regret it," Queena said, undeterred, her mind filled with visions of her future on screen.
Cynthia, aware of Queena's determination, offered softly, "Congratulations, Queena."
Feeling a sense of relief, Queena patted her chest. "When I make it big, I'll be taking you all out for a meal."
In the kitchen, the mood was tense. Vincent was chopping vegetables with vigor, the sound reflecting his mood.
"Uh, bro," Hallet started but fell silent, intimidated by Vincent, who pointed the kitchen knife at him.
Vincent said, "If you ever treat her poorly, you'll answer to me."
"Where's this coming from? My feelings for Queena are genuine," Hallet, though confused, swore. "See that they stay that way," Vincent said, turning back to his cooking, ignoring Hallet.
Hallet breathed a quiet sigh of relief, his back damp with sweat.
Meanwhile, outside, Queena was confidently discussing her plans, her eyes shining with excitement.
Liam suddenly entered and casually asked, "What's the celebration about?"
Cynthia quickly filled him in on the events.
Upon hearing her, Liam raised an eyebrow.
It wasn't easy to get Vincent to concede, but such matters weren't a big deal.
His main concern was keeping pace with Vincent; he didn't want his wife to admire another man.
Liam then took off his coat and tossed it to Cynthia. "Hold this."
"What are you doing?" Cynthia wondered.
"Going to help. I don't intend to just listen to you praise other men."
Cynthia rolled her eyes; this man was certainly possessive. While everyone was still discussing Queena's situation, he was already feeling jealous.
In the kitchen, the three men were divvied up with tasks.
Hallet had initially planned to just lend a hand, but seeing the situation, he decided to step up his game. Not wanting to let Queena down later, he gritted his teeth and cooked a signature dish from the border region.
Before long, the table in the courtyard was heaped with a feast. They sat around in couples.
Queena was the first to try some of Vincent's dishes, and after tasting it, she gave a thumbs-up and praised it. "Mmm, this is really delicious."
She then served some to Cynthia. "Cynthia, you've got to try this. My brother's cooking is out of this world."
Cynthia took a bite and savored it. It wasn't as over-the-top as Queena made it out to be, but it was definitely some of the best home cooking she'd had.
"Very tasty." Cynthia gave a compliment.
Just as she finished speaking, a hand flashed before her eyes, and then her bowl was filled with steak.
Liam's voice came over. "Try this; it's definitely better than what you just had."
The slightly jealous tone made it clear who the steak was made by.
Cynthia took a bite, also giving a thumbs-up. "Mmm, my husband's dish is delicious too."
Hearing this, Liam served several more dishes to Cynthia. "Try all of these."
Looking at the mountain of food in her bowl, Cynthia asked with a hint of amusement, "You didn't make all these, did you?"
Liam nodded.
Cynthia was impressed but also a bit overwhelmed. This possessiveness was something else.
Though she inwardly groaned, she didn't hesitate in her actions; the man needed affirmation at this moment.
She ate every bit of food in her bowl and once again gave high praise. "Wow, these dishes are fantastic. I'll have to have more tonight."
Next, Liam kept serving Cynthia food until he saw she had eaten her fill before stopping.
People usually savored their food more when they were hungry, so he first fed Cynthia with his dishes, ensuring she wouldn't replace the others' dishes as appealing.
Sure enough, Cynthia, having eaten almost enough, barely took a few symbolic bites of the other two men's dishes before putting down her fork.
Vincent was already in a bad mood, and seeing Liam's childish behavior made him even more upset, knocking on the table in displeasure. "That's enough. Save the lovey-dovey stuff for home." After dinner, Liam wanted to return to Regalian Garden, but Queena insisted that Cynthia come hang out in her room.
He could only wait downstairs.
The three women chatted upstairs, while the three men enjoyed coffee downstairs.
Cynthia had been pondering what gift to give Jasmine for her upcoming birthday and took this opportunity to ask Queena and Mila for suggestions.
"Ah, is Mrs. Sullivan's birthday in a couple of days?" Queena expressed her surprise. "Then I should also give her a birthday gift."
After all, when she and her brother were young, Jasmine had shown them a lot of affection.
She had prepared gifts for Jasmine's birthday every year.
Having given so many gifts over the years, Queena couldn't think of what to give this time. Moreover, now that her brother had cut off her allowance, she didn't have money to buy those expensive gifts.
