Chapter 105

When Sage said those words with no emotions on her face, Jace felt as if his heart had stoppedbeating.

He finally understood how it felt like to be disappointed and heartbroken.

It was not because he had never experienced a breakup.

Back then when Sienna wanted to break up with him, he remembered being angry at her for notbeing able to trust him.

After that, Jace had chosen to believe that relationships were fragile and that was why he closed offhimself to everyone else.

Until Sage showed up. She showed up when he was at his worst. He remembered that he did noteven give her a smile or even praised her.

Now that he thought about it, Sage would never have stayed this long by his side if it was notbecause of her feelings for him.

“I'm sorry,"Jace apologized to her again, “I've ruined everything for you.”

Sage pulled into a slight smile and said, “You don't have to be sorry for not having feelings for me.”op

Before Jace could finish his sentence, Sage cut him off. She did not want Jace to take pity on her.“You don't have to feel bad for me. I didn't tell you this before simply because we're alreadyseparated and there is no use in bringing up the past. I'm telling you these now because of Yoelwho told you things that you didn't have to know. Rather than letting others exaggerate ormanipulate the truth, Id rather you hear these from me. I also hope that you'll be able to finally letthis go.”

Jace nodded, “Thank you for telling me all these.”

“Since we have this out of the way, let's talk about business.”

Looking at the stunned expression on Jace's face, Sage guessed that Jace was still startled by theirconversation earlier. Or perhaps he was still shocked by her admiration for him.

But what was so surprising about it?

Almost everyone knew about the fact that Sage admired him, except for Jace. Sage had enough ofexperiencing the bitterness of love.

All she wanted to do now was to love herself.

She did not want to love anyone else.

Collecting herself, Sage said coldly, “Mister Jace, I've always drawn a clear line between my work andpersonal life. Back then I was opposed to collaborating with you simply because things are stillmessy between the both of us and I don't feel comfortable. Now that we've talked things through,we can put the past behind us. Business is business. I am pleased to invite you as a collaborator o nthis horse-racing project.”

Holding out her hand to Jace, Sage sounded sincere and professional.

There was a moment of silence.

Jace's gaze deepened. After staring silently at Sage for some time, he finally held her hand in his.“To a pleasant cooperation.”

After setting a date to go over the details for the project, Sage got out of the car.

Watching Sage as she walked away, Jace wanted to call out to her. He wanted to apologize to heragain but he held back.

Or perhaps, what Sage had wanted was never his apologies.

As soon as she stepped foot into Rosa Garden, Leah ran over to her immediately.

"What took you this long, Sage? Are you okay?”

Leah scanned Sage all over carefully. After making sure that she was not injured, Leah finally felt asense of relief.

“I'm fine. Let's go,” replied Sage.

Though she sounded calm as if nothing had happened but her eyes were red-rimmed, leaving Leahthinking that things were not a
